Two things:

One: Queens of the Stone Age has a new album coming out. Unlike most of the album releases I squee about, this one actually might be something you'd want to listen to! This is a fifteen minute preview of the album, with a series of interwoven animated music videos. The videos are a bit punk. The genre of music is rock.

Two: I recently saw the movie version of "John Dies At The End." Having never read the book, I must say, it was pretty entertaining. Surreal horror with a distinctly comic bent, but played completely straight and being all the funnier for it. Early on, a doorknob turns into an entirely different sort of knob, if you take my drift. The main character spends a not insignificant amount of time treating a sausage in a bun like a cellphone. It's extremely low budget, looking only slightly higher in production value than a good YouTube production, but it's still effective enough when it needs to be. I laughed, a lot. Check it out if you've got a chance and an easily suspended sense of disbelief.

"John Dies At The End."

I liked it, but it just took itself a bit too seriously for something that doesn't invite closer inspection a la the MST3K Mantra. Maybe it's different in the book- in fact, I'm positive it is. Even if my friend didn't tell me this, there was just so much in that movie that screamed of a poor translation from text to cinema. Can't change the fact that books and movies speak in a different language. Overall, though, I did enjoy the movie.

Admittedly, part of my enjoyment may have come from the fact that part of my sense of humor was developed by the guy who wrote the book (and the guys he worked with). They did articles in a similar vein pretty often.
