This year's edition of the Boston Marathon had been dedicated to the victims of Newtown's shooting, and a number of victims' families had been invited as honor guests.

Right now, three bombs went off, a few dozen injured, possibly two dead. Statewide, National Guard units are on standby or have already been activated. This is what I know for sure, aside from that the media is putting out bullshit.

This is what terrorism does. The point isn't to kill, but to frighten. Looks like that's exactly what happened. The media is just going to get in the way until actual facts surface.
The alleged suspect was probably in the wrong place at the wrong time, since they aren't saying anything but his age and nationality.

Honestly, it's understandable. Terrorism attacks community very specifically, and as such it instantly reifies both the togetherness-feeling of the community and the otherness-feeling of anyone outside it. Paranoia is instantly set to 11, empathy for those outside the group decreases massively... I dunno, I can certainly recognize these effects in myself, anyway, and I'm half a continent away (though it is still my community under attack). Combine all that with feelings of powerlessness and a need for retribution.

Police Commissioner Ed Davis says that reports of a suspect in custody are inaccurate, btw.
