The Internet is one of the greatest inventions of Humankind... but the problem with the open internet is that by letting anyone say or upload anything, you get absolutely everything. Rule 34 is the most obvious, but it goes deeper than that. The kind of unthinking hatred that bangs about in some echo-chambers convinces many (idiots) that those words are as free of consequences (and therefore responsibility) as they are cheap. (It takes these morons how long to type and post their words?) Some people just never learned to care about others, and in places like 4chan they can really make the atmosphere extremely toxic. Now here in Cloudsville and lots of other FiM places, people are generally nicer than elsewhere. It's really for no other reason than most of us FiM fans just want to be nicer to each other (and make some friends). There's lots of other places and comunities on the internet where you'd never see someone that kind of mindless hatred.
The internet exposes all of human culture. All of it. And some cultures are, objectively speaking, batshit insane. Seriously read some history for a few hours and tell me I'm wrong. Someday in the slightly optimistic future, public education will include (objective and applied) socializing and morality as mandatory learning for everyone. (Friendship lessons!) We're living in the future, what are we doing not making the next generations more capable of dealing with this crap?
Internet is the modern day equivalent to the Wild West.

I think that might be over-dignifying it a bit.

Is it weird that, in my head, it was Calamity saying all that?

Not even slightly - he's quintessentially a cowpony gunslinger, after all, cleaning up the wasteland one bullet at a time. And his was more or less the accent I was going for, too. :)FeatherDust wrote:Is it weird that, in my head, it was Calamity saying all that?

The post needs to be written in frustrating nigh-unreadable phonetics for it to be Calamity-speak.

Aw, dude...are the 4fags popping up again? Fuck 'em. Haters gonna hate. Somber, we love your fic! That's all that matters.
We shouldn't be talking about this. We should be talking about how much we hate Goldenblood. A little, or a lot? ;)
Oh, and I now I'm a new poster, but all the bronies in the Mid-west (USA); you okay? Those tornadoes were a bitch. I'll be posting from my phone for a few days. Catching a red-eye to Oklahoma to help out up there. Be safe guys!!

Met some bronies at a bar in the Hartsfield airport in ATL last night. Turns out I'm not the only one who drinks like a fish.
They didn't know about PH, so I filled them in. Let there be light!

Wow, never heard anybody call Goldie their favorite character before! I see what you're saying, though. As far as sacrifices go, he's even given Littlepip a run for her money. Can't wait to see how everything plays out!

I'm still unsure on whether or not I truly dislike Goldenblood.
I blame Somber making all the main bad guys tragic characters. (Well, barring the Legate thus far...)

Isn't he supposed to be older than the bombings or something? We have his tragic story then.
...Which...wouldn't be all that uniquely tragic, considering just about everyone and their grandma had someone get blown to smithereens by the megaspells.

He is cursed, hurting all of those who approach him, physically, emotionally, or both.
He may also be literally thousands of years old.

- That Legate Spoiler that is still technically a spoiler:
- Remember the Eternal Warrior's history? He was the weenie zebra who cut out his heart and became unkillable. He jumped to the stars just to find something that might be able to kill him for good.
So I still hold out hope that the Legate is a fraud.

Destroyed her own mind by banishing all her pain and guilt and self-doubt into a single alicorn link, and became a monster. Though she was already tragic enough in the original, mind you; neither Trixie nor Twilight ever wanted that.Vergil wrote:RoboRed wrote:I'm still unsure on whether or not I truly dislike Goldenblood.

Though that's all true, she's also literally taking pleasure out of screwing with BJ's mind and threatening to make BJ kill her own friends.
...and there's nothing BJ can do about it.
Sorry, but I find her so over the top malicious at this point I don't know how Somber's going to make me feel bad about the whole situation.

Oh, I don't think she's at all likable (apart from how entertaining she is, because, let's be honest here, the Goddess is hilarious), but I do think she's still tragic in many senses. Her drive and ambition became flaws, for instance.Vergil wrote:Though that's all true, she's also literally taking pleasure out of screwing with BJ's mind and threatening to make BJ kill her own friends.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Think I'm in the camp of liking Goldenblood. I rather like an antagonist who isn't really a direct antagonist. He isn't something that Blackjack can just shove a gun into and pull the trigger until problem solved; he's an already dead (?) pony whose every action set shit in motion that lead to Blackjack's current issues, but she can't even rage properly at him because he's not there to even yell at. I saw him as a pretty clever way to do a villain for a character like Blackjack, who basically gets things done via direct confrontation, whereas with Goldenblood... there really isn't anything to confront. He's already done all the things; set up his plan A-Z. All Blackjack can do is damage control and try to figure things out to reverse whatever his plan is.
I do have a thing for tragic antagonists myself. Might be part of why I like PH.
So... he's a well adjusted happy individual with no regrets in his life?
The Goddess is arguably tragic as well. She comes from a pony that, after going through a living hell as a destitute hooker, somehow managed to claw her way back to a semi-normal life (who knows what she had to go through to get that cottage we see in the original FoE), then she gets approached by Twilight to be a test subject in an experiment that had every indication of being the key to ending the war... but that comes too late, and by no real fault of her own gets dipped in a vat of magic alicorn juice. The process of being turned into the Goddess probably would've been enough to drive any normal pony insane, its no real shock that Trixie of all ponies wouldn't keep sane for too long under that kind of change or given that kind of power. Power corrupts, and Trixie, barley recovered from a hard life, was suddenly given an insane amount of power (plus physically altered to the point where her mind might not have been working properly anymore anyway).
And the thing is, she didn't immediately start using raw force to take over. She actually listened to Twilight for awhile and tried using diplomacy to convince others to join Unity. Strictly speaking she's not even trying anything so ridiculous as ending the world or stealing souls, she's trying to "save" the Wasteland via the only means she's believes is viable.
Is she a selfish, narcissistic, sadist nutcase with delusions of grandeur?
Yes.
Is she an absolutely evil irredeemable monster beyond saving?
Well, ask KKat. The Goddess did use her last moments to save her children from the balefire bomb.

Okay, fair enough. I will say though that I only thought she was hilarious until she got into BJ's head. Not so much since then, just insanely evil.

Hah, to each their own I suppose. I'm an eternal optimist and tend to look for the best in others, even when their at their worst. That and I think Somber cranks the Goddess' crazy up to 12 beyond the way she acted in FoE, but that's his prerogative and I don't really mind it. I'm just not the type to ever see a sapient being as being beyond redemption, no matter how far or hard they fall.
