Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I thought it was more about the figure of speech itself than its quantitative / qualitative aspect, but that's probably the most likely explanation....Um. Apparently thanks from me are worth a lot more than I thought?

Sorry for the confusion. O. Hinds always says "Ah, thank you." when someone posts errors they've found. This is the first time he's said something different, so I tried some Laughter. And besides, finding all that stuff way back in chapter 2 is still super impressive.

You're welcome. There's nothing wrong with developing attachment to minor characters, they need someone to care for them just as much as any major character.thatguyvex wrote:Thanks, that does help! I was having the hardest
time finding that information. Bugs me when I'm trying to think about a
character but I don't have an accurate mental image. Its really weird,
fifty five chapters of this story has had plenty of more established and
developed characters die, but its this completely tertiary Enclave
pony's death that gets under my skin for some reason.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Just finished 55. Thank you Somber SO MUCH! Two months without Blackjack was unbearable!
But now the energy of life have returned into my veins!
But now the energy of life have returned into my veins!
- Random thoughts:
I must admit: the beginning of the chapter was a little too easy, even leisurely, and hadn't grabbed me by surprise or other strong feeling, but starting from stuttering guard it'd become much better. Whole chapter was easy to read, and it's became some kind of relaxing therapy for me, though some moments were really tense! But generally, there wasn't many sharp edges. Don't know if it's good thing or not.
The intrigue in the end of the chapter set a little firework in my mind) I hope, that Somber done this mostly for the fun, and the next chapter will be like one giant ball of unpredictable disasters and challenges, that will fall right on now-crowned head of Blackjack)) I know, it's mistime for that. The Goddess and other stuff. But I kinda missed those crazy inserts, half-amusing and half-absurd because of the general seriousness (or even somberness!) of the situation, inserts like liberation of Turnip in Flash Industries, crazy enemy-camp-peeking with LittlePip, or that MEGA-EPIC battle with Stronghoof (I seriously thought that I would die from laughter...).
The thought reminded me of this beautiful art ^_^- Spoiler:
Maybe a little to late, but I also want to express my deepest respect to 52 chapter. I have a habit of writing down the good places of books that I read, but when I read this chapter, I wrote just "52. Entirely". Not one excessive word, not one unnecessary line of dialog! That was the most vivid, colorful and accurate chapter that I ever read! And right after that - chapter 53, with the Deus like a cherry on top of the glorious cake)))
Don't know why I wrote that... just wanted to share the accumulated joy and gratitude)
Anyway, the chapter was good, and the only thing that I'm hoping to happen is that the events will speed up a little bit. Blackjack's personal goal isn't seem strong enough. She doesn't sit still, but doesn't press for it either. That situation lasts from the very Hightower: nothing really pushes her forward, she isn't run straight with all the crazy strength that she has. I hope she'll find her way soon. And find the way to kick the Goddess' ass before LittlePip does it)))
- Aaand the question:
- Did I missed the place in the story where explained and/or showed the incident, in which Goldenblood got his trauma? Can't remember, if it was anywhere or not. I'm kinda burning down from curiosity!

Well, I've good news and bad news. Bad news: You misread the old passage at least once (assume that we didn't do something wrong in the writing of it). Ah, yes, I sometimes forget that you're not a native speaker. European polyglottism... I can maybe remember how to say "Do you speak English?" in Mandarin, and that's about it besides English for me.Harmony Ltd. wrote:English being a foreign language to me, I figured that "thank you very much" somehow was inadequate in some way or something, and that he was pointing out the editor doing that kind of mistake.O. I mean the Goldenblood rasping breath and scars, the decease, which makes him feel like hell. I remember that in first his appearance (in memory orb when he protests against war with zebras) he was okay, and then some accident occurs, and he become very ill. Don't know if I missed the explanation, my memory shoves me some suspicious details about Blueblood involvement in all this...O. Hinds wrote:I'm sorry, but I don't understand the question. Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I don't think we've seen the scene where it happened (please correct me if I'm wrong), but in one of Blackjack's early recording-visions there was this:
(Should that "were" be "was"?) Never mind.
And later in the chapter we saw some of the lead up to it, with Psalm leading the refugees to the Academy in what I believe was the first of the Psalm dreams—the one with P-21, Glory, and Rampage in it.
Chapter 44 wrote:“Professor?” a mare asked softly from the door, and like a ghost materializing, a stricken black unicorn appeared. Her silver eyes were wide and shimmered with tears. A lone candle was on her flank. She sniffed and rubbed her nose.
He didn’t look up from his work. “I’m not… a teacher… anymore… Psalm,” he wheezed in that boiled-sounding voice. Slowly he turned to look at her, stiffly, as if every motion were agony. His eyes fixed on her standing there as she sniffed. “It’s not… your fault, Psalm.”
It was the wrong comment. “How can you say that? It was my fault! All of it!” she sobbed as she collapsed, hanging her head. “If I… if they… Oh Luna, I wish I’d died with the others!”
He slowly rose, hobbled towards where she lay in a heap, and, moving with great pain, gently hugged her. “It is… not… your fault…” he rasped, then coughed that horrid, wracking cough.
“I shouldn’t have done it. I… they did it because of me.”
He answered her in short, gasping broken lines that I threaded together. “You are not to blame, Psalm. Not for your kindness. What happened at Littlehorn was not your fault, nor will you wishing to assume responsibility make it better.” He patted her mane. “I wish I could help you understand that.” He held her in his hooves till her sobbing abated. “There... better?” She nodded and wiped her nose.
And later in the chapter we saw some of the lead up to it, with Psalm leading the refugees to the Academy in what I believe was the first of the Psalm dreams—the one with P-21, Glory, and Rampage in it.

I might not be the best source. But I'm pretty sure he was poisoned by zebras and almost died. He had a scene where he told Princess Luna how the government should be run and him setting everything up for her with his ideas. I think he was so bad then that he thought he would die, so he told Luna all that, then begged her to just surrender instead, then she walked out.
He managed to live through it, then started the OIA within the system he had told to Luna(I think the ministry system is what he suggested, idk). His organs were slowly being liquefied or something (I dont remember exactly what the poison did), but thats where he got all of his scars and rasp.
As far as I recall, thats what happened. You can go back and look for it, but I have no idea of the chapter it happened in.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Continuing where I left off...
Random thought of the day: If PH ever does a beach episode, it should be called, "Once More Unto the Beach, Dear Friends".
- Ch. 55 Comments, part 2:
Sometimes I get the feeling that Glory just has a very dry sense of humor. XDGlory blinked at me in confusion and gestured to the bloody heap. “But there’s not enough materials here for even one cyberghoul.”
I'm going to go fall over laughing for a while at "Carrotech". Hey, there's a questgiver in there, isn't there? While most of the terrain was tangled, dead woods, there were a few odd buildings mixed in with rusted, bold plaques like ‘Carrotech’ and ‘Radish Fabrication Research’ on them.
Tee-hee!Tank beats everything.
AKA Cognitum, I presume.“Fillies and gentlecolts of the O.I.A., I just know how much you love these little demonstrations. So, with no further ado, may I present the Crusader, one point two! A marked improvement over the original Stable Tec design in terms of processing power and capabilities.”
I think I just figured out why Cog is so fragmented. With the new and improved Crusader 1.2, you can upload as many minds as you need to. Swap between them. Scan for information you need and simply use a part of it.
Yes, please come put on my brain-scanner. I promise we'll purge absolutely everything it extracts from your mind.“The upload is purged and can be replaced by any other mind you may wish. Come on up and try it.”
...after our techs ensure that they've wiped anything that was extracted from "Eclipse", right?“Do not play jokes on government officials,” Goldenblood said firmly, gesturing with his hoof for Psalm to let him up. Horse slowly rose as Psalm backed off, the humiliated stallion glaring at Goldenblood with unabashed loathing. “Now. You seem to have a computer to fix. Do so, and maybe then we’ll talk.”
...right?
...well okay then. I'm sure momentary contact with a mind as powerful as Luna's couldn't possibly be used for anything untoward.“I’m fine. Just a little disoriented. If he wasn’t already involved tangentially, I would. We’ll just use it as a reason for him to behave.”
Oh, that's really really not good...You’ve been controlled by the Goddess. She has had you running in, shooting the Sentries, and rushing out again on auto pilot.
Shouldn't the Goddess be unable to touch BJ with all that Enervation running? Unless... her immunity to it makes her a little island of non-Enervation... shit. Blessed with Suck. You’re the one going in, remember? On account of all the Enervation?
I really wish BJ would stop brushing off brushing off peoples' concern when the Goddess wasn't directly manipulating her. They might catch on quicker if she struggled to speak every time someone asked if she was okay.“No. No. I got it.” I said as I stood and dusted myself off with a hoof. “I’m going.”
I just want to note how cool a description that is.I saw labels for sacks of fertilizer that had split open, the contents forming white crystalline structures creeping in cascades of nitre down the side of the sacks.
Huh... okay... maybe not? Hmm. Maybe she put Psalm in charge for each run?“Lacunae? Can you hear me?” I thought at her, but it didn’t pierce the Enervation scream. How had the Goddess used me? Had she programmed me like a robot? Could I be programed like a robot?
What, does your broadcaster not work when you're in Enervation? If you can't reach Lacunae, the Goddess can't stop you right now!And worse, I couldn’t think of any way to tell somepony!
Enervation is really creepy because it works a lot like rot, but it's not associated with the mildewy, biological smells you'd normally associate with a place like this. Instead, it's utterly sterile. As I moved deeper into the factory, leaving the warehouse area and moving into some offices, the floor creaked and the saturated carpet gushed with every step I took.
Hell's bells... If the Eater goes active, it won't just blanket Equestria with Enervation -- it'll be worldwide! It wouldn’t surprise me if they’re marketing to the enemy to make these figures.
Uggggh...The floor was ankle deep in viscous fluid as I walked along tables stacked with long-still fabrication machinery. I could taste metal in the air. Coppery.
Hey, you remember that one level of Doom? "Knee Deep in the Dead"?...
Got it in one.I rose to my hooves... and realized I stood in a field of gore. Red fluid, not water but the liquefied remains of the ponies who had sheltered here, coated me.
Dammit, Fluttershy's just about to chime in and tell her not to kill Dawn, isn't she...I felt a little pink pony and tiny blue Glory thump my brain and sent me diving forward...
Then a purple mare smacked me hard upside the head...
Focus. Endure. If a little white pony inside me could handle her soul being ripped to pieces, I could handle a little pain...
A little orange mare gave a whoop in my mind...
I really hate being right all the time.Be kind, a tiny yellow pony inside me begged.
Well, okay, I don't, but dammit...
Oh... ohhhhhhh... Well played, Somber! BJ is just about to get an object lesson that any slave can be freed. Turn that around, and Dawn isn't the enemy... Cog is.Just as monstrous and...” I’d be going to say ‘manipulated’, but one of the Goddess’s chains yanked tight and stopped me ... “I’d want my friends to save me,” I admitted softly.
Or whoever's driving Cog.
This guy is just full of great quotes!“What about raiders and slavers?” I asked archly.“The former have no ethics, just survival of the fittest. The latter is the application of economic acumen to the former.”
Berserk Button much?“Consensual! When you control every part of a pony’s life, where precisely does consent come into it?” he spat at her, making her back up as he trotted over to me.
Grace continues to score points in my book. The leadership of the Society seems remarkably decent, for all that the social order has its flaws. Splendid may be a bit of a badGrace sighed and slumped. “I see.” She then straightened and said sharply, “You understand that every minute I try to convince others not to act, I put my own wellbeing on the line."seedegg, though. He hasn't done anything to impress me yet.
Okay, so maybe half a point. Talk is cheap, and he might just be telling an idealistic young mare what she wants to hear. And he seems very adept at telling mares what they want to hear...He thinks that, with a little effort, the Society could expand as they did in the Fluttershy Medical Center. Provide security and safety to the Hoof.
I vote we put Scotch in charge.Scotch Tape scowled thoughtfully. “Is there any way we can do all three? Like... make things better for the worker ponies, help the Wasteland, and get the memory orbs?”
“Kid, you pull that off and I’m nominating you to be in charge,” Rampage replied. She then looked at me. “So, what’s your call?”
Son of a bitch...The gray undead stallion had one of the most intricate and stunning manestyles I’d seen on anypony, ghoul or not. A pair of violet glasses completely obscured his eyes as he approached with a velvet wrapped parcel on his back.
Hah! Called it!“King Awesome has passed away,” he said as he revealed a golden crown decorated with diamonds and rubies. I gaped, unable to think as he jammed the crown atop my head. “All hail Queen Blackjack, new leader of the Society! Long live the Queen!”
Oh fuck #1: The Goddess has puppet strings on the queen of the Society.
Oh fuck #2: BJ is going to suffer a Goddess Death Seizure just as the GGG gets started...
Oh fuck #whiskey: ALL HAIL QUEEN WHISKEY! HAIL! HAIL! HAIL!
My heart might not be able to take that... O_OI’m still determined to end this as it needs to be ended and to give you all the ending you deserve. I’m sorry if it’s slow. I’m hoping things will pick up soon....
In all seriousness, I rather like these slower chapters. When I'm not worrying about BJ's immediate well-being, it gives me some time to appreciate the more abstract dread of what BJ's up against, both in terms of elder entities from the darkest corners of spacetime and the vast, mindless inertia of the status quo.
- Editing, part 2:
Ornery. Also, this chapter repeatedly refers to "radgators", which is missing an "i". It's "radigator".Onery radgator? Tank.
Comma after "Apparently".Apparently she finds it quite... entertaining as she waits for LittlePip to arrive.
No comma there, though.I heard a snide, little chuckle in my mind as I pondered that.
Slowly, ISlowly I shoved the door open, the rust screeching and setting my teeth on edge.
No comma after "here", and I think "Because they wanted to be more" should be its own sentence. But when we encountered the ponies living here, in Elysium Gardens, I knew that they could be more, because they wanted to be more.
Discreetly.Try to conduct yourself more discretely.
No comma after the "and".“But I look at what these ponies are doing, and, while I think it’s not perfect, it’s absolutely a step in the right direction.”
Oh, will“Oh will you two just shut up and fuck already? I’m sure Blackjack would love that too!”
Random thought of the day: If PH ever does a beach episode, it should be called, "Once More Unto the Beach, Dear Friends".

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I'd prefer to think that she's simply learned her lesson from a couple of hard failures. Getting beat up doesn't affect her nearly so strongly as being responsible for others getting hurt.Icy Shake wrote:Did Blackjack get replaced with a changeling (if they even exist), or is Twilight really having a strong effect on her? This is possibly the most reasonable thing she's ever done, and she's done it with tact, too. I wonder if, maybe, the statuettes affect ponies associated with the corresponding Bearer (here as a descendent) (or Element? not especially likely, I'd guess, but possible) more strongly?
"Working for" might be a little strong. Influenced, maybe. Just incidentally nudged in the direction of darkness and despair.Icy Shake wrote:Well, I had suspected what that might be in the preceding paragraphs, but . . . well. This throws a whole new light on things. I didn't expect Goldenblood to actually be working for the Eater, but perhaps I should have.
Hehe. Yeah, I'll be pretty surprised if what you see isn't precisely what you get.Icy Shake wrote:It's hard not to appreciate Horse for so perfectly being just what he is.
Meh, just puke glass on a few key opponents and they'll shut up nicely.CD wrote:She's already the unpopular outsider who's a target for assassination, and now she has the curse of being a political ruler whose decisions will be scrutinized and viciously opposed by those grasping the short end of the stick.
Well, Unicornia was ruled by a king before they had a princess. I'm pretty sure the whole "princess" thing was because Tia and Luna refused to accept the title of "queen".Icy Shake wrote:I think it's weird Awesome took king as his title, considering he claims to be the heir of the throne of the Crystal Empire, which was ruled by a Princess, and Equestria, which was likewise ruled by Princesses.
Yeah, I thought about that too. But really, we only have a photo of "someone" being burned. It might be another prisoner, a robot, a duplicate of some sort, or, as you say, dragonfire transportation. One way or the other, I'm highly dubious that this is an actual photo of Goldie's actual death.stringtheory wrote:Damn, you know what I just remembered? That dragon flame can also transport the burnee, as seen with Littlepip, so perhaps Goldenblood wasn't executed (not to mention it's an interesting way of killing someone, when there are easier ways, though I suppose it was suppost to be a public 'show' execution), but transported him to one of the princesses though changing the destination would probably be a piece of cake for Goldenblood, depending on how dragonfire works. Though it could entirely be possible that Luna was in on at least some of his schemes, as shown with 'Eclipse' in the scene with Horse and the Crusader mainframe 1.2
That would be some bizarre and oddly specific shit to make up.stringtheory wrote:It is entirely possible that he could be making shit up here
Well, there was also a distinct voice change when Psalm arrived:Icy Shake wrote:My [boss's sister] . . .
And reading later on, it seemed possible that Goldenblood and Eclipse went into a room that Luna was already in, and Eclipse never said anything, even after Celestia left, despite being told by Goldenblood that Luna wanted her there.
So, possible, but unlikely.
[The guard] stopped at a pair of double doors and poked his head in. “Psalm to see Miss Eclipse. Also, she’s here.”
There was a pause as a mare muttered under her breath and then said, “One second. Almost… there…” And then abruptly the voice changed and became deeper. “Send Miss Psalm in.”
She's not even hiding it that well, for those who are looking for subterfuge.
Well, you're positing that either Luna has some power to project an interactive illusion at extreme range, or that she's exploiting the shapeshifting powers that we already know she has from the very first episode (and retained after her purification, per Nightmare Night.) I choose option B.Ketchup wrote:This probably wouldn't satisfy, but...
Magic. Luna may be able to do it with magic.
The Crystal Empire already vanished for a thousand years and reappeared with the same individuals who had suffered through Sombra's enslavement. It's not unthinkable that Cadence, her child, or her grandchild phased the city out for a century in hopes of finding a recovered Equestria on the other side.stringtheory wrote:I think King Awesome either forgot to add in a couple of 'greats' there, or was simply making shit up, remember, we haven't even heard of Shining Armor yet, though I guess he was off ruiling the Crystal Empire with Cadence
I normally answer questions like this rather than ask them, but my Windows Search has been misbehaving since I got my new computer. What chapter was that in?O. Hinds wrote:Well, I've good news and bad news. Bad news: You misread the old passage at least once (assume that we didn't do something wrong in the writing of it). Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Yeah, I know. I just like the "Blackjack are dumb and don't learn good" meme as long as she holds on to it. I'm a little serious about the tactfulness, though. Neither soft diplomacy nor empathy has ever been an especially strong suit for her, but again, life experiences have been building along those lines, especially more recently.SilentCarto wrote:I'd prefer to think that she's simply learned her lesson from a couple of hard failures.
True enough: I normally don't think too hard on—much less make extensive edits to—the running comments. "Working for" was meant as an unconscious thing, not intentional: I think that it's clear that by all indications, he holds Luna über alles.SilentCarto wrote:"Working for" might be a little strong.
SilentCarto wrote:Hehe. Yeah, I'll be pretty surprised if what you see isn't precisely what you get.Icy Shake wrote:It's hard not to appreciate Horse for so perfectly being just what he is.

No disagreement here: I'll admit, I think I skipped over that paragraph when last looking, and was beyond that trying to make the most permissive possible read.SilentCarto wrote:Well, there was also a distinct voice change when Psalm arrived:Icy Shake wrote:My [boss's sister] . .

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Mmk, so I poured over both scenes with Goldenblood, Psalm and Eclipse. Since, from what I see, nobody else has said it yet, I've set my theory that Goldenblood knows that Eclipse is Luna, and the shapeshifting is to conceal her from everyone else, including Psalm. Goldenblood could have said that Luna had summoned Eclipse to deceive Psalm. So no projections.
Then, this:
Who's going to swoop in and say they said this already? I have a feeling someone will say that, or that it was obvious and that it didn't need to be said.
Hum. It's late, I need to go to bed.
Then, this:
Goldenblood knows. The extent of her involvement, and what she knew of the projects at the time, are still up in the air, due to her whole two appearances.“Espionage on her own subjects. What would her majesty think?”
Who's going to swoop in and say they said this already? I have a feeling someone will say that, or that it was obvious and that it didn't need to be said.
Hum. It's late, I need to go to bed.

Mind.. Theorizing...
The Mainframe 1.2 scanned what could be Luna's brain, which just about fried the machine. Now, I'm going to make some assumptions here that you lot put in my head.
Assuming the Mainframe 1.2 is Cognitum, Eclipse is Luna, and the storage on Mainframe 1.2 is still functioning (it was based on Applebloom's tech, maybe that was lucky enough to share the durability), would it be possible for a portion of Luna's mind to still be functioning somewhere in Cognitum? Lost among however many other minds Horse scanned into the thing, struggling for control, or perhaps reverting to a Nightmare Moon mentality?

Yeah, minor characters don't get enough love for all the hard work they do greasing the wheels for the main cast.
I think the reason Sunset's death in particular got stuck in my mind is the way its presented. There's little to no emotional reaction from anyone involved. This strikes me as really dissonant with the rest of the chapter, given that Blackjack has serious emotional issues with killing Clink, and in the second revision of the chapter she even begged the Legate to not beat Lancer to death. She has fairly intense internal debates with herself over the justifications for killing and keeps leaning towards a more merciful mindset. Yet this conflict utterly vanishes in the instance of Sunset attempting to kidnap Glory. Now in Blackjack's case I can accept and buy that, with a friend's safety at stake she's capable of putting her moral quandaries aside; what bothers me is that there's no shown mental process of this happening. No brief mental debate of whether she should try to disable Sunset, or talk her down. Furthermore, there's no regret or remorse in having to watch Sunset get literally and brutally torn apart by Hellhounds, an arguably far worse death than Clink merely getting shot in the head, which is quick in painless in comparison. Yet she grieves and aggravates over Clink dying, but shows no emotional response to another, arguably far better pony than a rapist, getting torn limb from limb in front of her. But even then, at least Blackjack I can kind of sort of understand because she's still neck deep in crazy, even though she's trying to get better about it.
What I don't get is Twister and Boomer. From what little of the interactions I read of the three it was pretty clear Twister, Boomer, and Sunset had known each other a long time, at least since basic training, and had served together for possibly years. They seemed far more friends than just comrades at arms (a relationship that some might argue is stronger than friendship). Yet all we get in that scene is a token attempt by Twister to talk Sunset down. Then she and Boomer both just sort of stand by and watch Sunset get killed. Disagreements over the pursuit of their assignment aside it just doesn't make sense to me that someone would be cool with watching a long time comrade and friend get torn to pieces without so much as making an attempt to save them. Really all it would have taken is a bit of cover fire from Boomer or Twister, who are airborne and well out of danger themselves from the Hellhounds, to distract the creatures long enough for Sunset to get clear. One press of a trigger would be all it would have taken for either of them to save their comrade, the pony they served together with for who knows how long... but no, they just watch. Heck, neither of them so much as comment or lament that it happened, they just sort of leave. Don't even scoop up the remains or a set of dogtags to take back home to whatever family Sunset had.
The entire scene, and its general lack of emotion, just rubs me very wrong.
Uh... that said though its just one scene, out of a one million plus word story that I've very much enjoyed. 1% of something that bothers me hardly negates the other 99% of stuff I think is awesome. So, yeah, just felt like I had to get that all off my chest.

Just got around to reading 55. Like usual I enjoyed it a a lot. The levels of unnecessary drama were acceptable and we had the best cliffhanger since that time Glory died.
9/10 would read again. Long live Queen Whiskey.

Possible? Absolutely. FOE certainly left the impression that a copied mind lacking a soul would be something less than (pardon the expression) human. If Cog thinks, in her twisted way, that she's doing what's best for her subjects, it would certainly help explain her behavior.StoneSlinger88 wrote:Assuming the Mainframe 1.2 is Cognitum, Eclipse is Luna, and the storage on Mainframe 1.2 is still functioning (it was based on Applebloom's tech, maybe that was lucky enough to share the durability), would it be possible for a portion of Luna's mind to still be functioning somewhere in Cognitum? I'm definitely pulling for the "No Gods, No Masters" ending.

I'm a bit surprised that he allowed the group to fall into the state of barbarism that Awesome found them in, but given his vanity, maybe he left when ghoulification set in and helped to found Meatlocker instead, returning only after Awesome built something worthy. Sometimes I get the feeling that Glory just has a very dry sense of humor. Swap between them. Scan for information you need and simply use a part of it.Yes, please come put on my brain-scanner. I promise we'll purge absolutely everything it extracts from your mind.“The upload is purged and can be replaced by any other mind you may wish. Come on up and try it.”...after our techs ensure that they've wiped anything that was extracted from "Eclipse", right?“Do not play jokes on government officials,” Goldenblood said firmly, gesturing with his hoof for Psalm to let him up. Horse slowly rose as Psalm backed off, the humiliated stallion glaring at Goldenblood with unabashed loathing. “Now. You seem to have a computer to fix. Do so, and maybe then we’ll talk.”
...right?...well okay then. I'm sure momentary contact with a mind as powerful as Luna's couldn't possibly be used for anything untoward.“I’m fine. Just a little disoriented. If he wasn’t already involved tangentially, I would. We’ll just use it as a reason for him to behave.”Oh, that's really really not good...You’ve been controlled by the Goddess. On account of all the Enervation?I really wish BJ would stop brushing off brushing off peoples' concern when the Goddess wasn't directly manipulating her. They might catch on quicker if she struggled to speak every time someone asked if she was okay.“No. No. I got it.” I said as I stood and dusted myself off with a hoof. “I’m going.”I just want to note how cool a description that is.I saw labels for sacks of fertilizer that had split open, the contents forming white crystalline structures creeping in cascades of nitre down the side of the sacks.Huh... okay... maybe not? If you can't reach Lacunae, the Goddess can't stop you right now!And worse, I couldn’t think of any way to tell somepony!Enervation is really creepy because it works a lot like rot, but it's not associated with the mildewy, biological smells you'd normally associate with a place like this. I could taste metal in the air. Coppery.
Hey, you remember that one level of Doom? "Knee Deep in the Dead"?...Got it in one.I rose to my hooves... and realized I stood in a field of gore. Red fluid, not water but the liquefied remains of the ponies who had sheltered here, coated me.Dammit, Fluttershy's just about to chime in and tell her not to kill Dawn, isn't she...I felt a little pink pony and tiny blue Glory thump my brain and sent me diving forward...
Then a purple mare smacked me hard upside the head...
Focus. Endure. If a little white pony inside me could handle her soul being ripped to pieces, I could handle a little pain...
A little orange mare gave a whoop in my mind...I really hate being right all the time.Be kind, a tiny yellow pony inside me begged.
Well, okay, I don't, but dammit...Oh... ohhhhhhh... Well played, Somber! BJ is just about to get an object lesson that any slave can be freed. Turn that around, and Dawn isn't the enemy... The latter is the application of economic acumen to the former.”Berserk Button much?“Consensual! When you control every part of a pony’s life, where precisely does consent come into it?” he spat at her, making her back up as he trotted over to me.Grace continues to score points in my book. And he seems very adept at telling mares what they want to hear...He thinks that, with a little effort, the Society could expand as they did in the Fluttershy Medical Center. Provide security and safety to the Hoof.I vote we put Scotch in charge.Scotch Tape scowled thoughtfully. “Is there any way we can do all three? Like... make things better for the worker ponies, help the Wasteland, and get the memory orbs?”
“Kid, you pull that off and I’m nominating you to be in charge,” Rampage replied. She then looked at me. “So, what’s your call?”Son of a bitch...The gray undead stallion had one of the most intricate and stunning manestyles I’d seen on anypony, ghoul or not. A pair of violet glasses completely obscured his eyes as he approached with a velvet wrapped parcel on his back.Hah!
HAIL! HAIL! HAIL!My heart might not be able to take that...

- So I wasn't too clear on this, but is it suggested that the Enervation rings sent all over the world are just soaking up and storing souls at their own locations, or are actually channeling the souls of those that die along a kind of conduit all the way back to the Tokomare in Hoofington?
