Just make sure you don't use anything less than the i5 3450 (I'm using a 3550) or FX6300, though ideally you'd want either an i5 3570k, i7 2700k or FX8300

Also, don't go OCZ for anything. Make sure you get Corsair or even better, Seasonic for the PSU. ALWAYS GO ABOVE 650W with 80+ bronze rating.

You'll want an SSD with a minimum of 480mb r/w rate and a graphics card with over 2 terra flops.

Oh, and don't go Nvidea, AMD is the fucking future.

My computer has a GTX 560, and it had a 460. The 460 served me well, and we only decided to upgrade it in case Diablo 3 had high-spec graphics. It could run whatever I wanted, on whatever quality I wanted, but that probably had something to do with the low 1024 x 768 resolution I use.

Basically, my graphic card was bought at the same time I assembled my current computer.

This was way back then in 2010.

In other words, the only way I manage to play Crysis 2 is by putting the settings on "low" (the lowest setting is "High" ) and diminishing the resolution from my native 1920x1080.

How awkward must have it been to be that guy in Stable 2 who wasn't a fan of Velvet Remedy? C'mon. You can't tell me that literally everyone in the Stable adored her as a god. AMD is best for price:performance ratio

7850 is probably the best cheaper card. 7870 is a good one too.
If you've got the money, 7950 is the sweet spot. 7970 is probably above what you're after though. (All Radeon HD series cards)

I don't have DX11, 9c works with everything I have aside from XCOM, which is easy to get working.

My desktop's GTS 450 has run everything I've thrown at it flawlessly on my comfy 1366x768 resolution (which my laptop also has) except for Deus Ex: Human Revolution, but I think that was more interference related to my other programs. Even then, it worked at full speed on max settings as long as I didn't decide to muck around on Skype, tabbing in and out, etc. at the same time. That vidya card is probably the only thing I will replace of my computer any time soon.
My laptop has Optimus technology, which basically means that it auto-selects the graphics adaptor from its GT630M or HD Graphics 4000 to conserve battery power. The former can run anything in my Steam library adequately or well, (even if the primary use of the thing is to play Dwarf Fortress on lunch breaks) while the latter is just there for when you don't need cool graphics.
