Not particularly within the realms of WoT mechanics, the M60 Patton wasn't exactly a colossal upgrade over the M48 in any terms other than elements that don't really matter in WoT. The stats we've seen pretty accurately reflect it as an M48 with less armour and a bit more speed as generally reflects tanks in that era until the UK discovered composites. It still used the same gun after all.

The idea that a lot of people had for reward tanks was to have them as something that every tier 10 in a tree researches toward no matter which line you complete. It's still a balanced tier 10, just you only get it as a sidegrade after finishing a line. It's your final goal, essentially. Unfortunately, WG feels that such an icon (and it's a beauty, the M60 RISE turret!) deserves to get thrown into only a tiny portion of the playerbase. All the while they give Russian players the T-62A (iconic tank) and the Germans the Leopard 1 (iconic tank). It's really just another example of how they don't understand what matters to other countries in their armoured history. Serb (lead dev for those who don't know) has already been caught saying (I paraphrase) that "Only those from Russia truly know what it is to love a tank, do you all have a tank on a monument outside every city? No. Then stop whining, your tanks are never iconic because you don't care."

Insulting, really.
Kinda funny, because at the library in my town we have a Centurion memorial, and an M4A3 Sherman in a neighbouring city. And neither are indigenous vehicles and we still memorialize them.

Also funny, the T-54 and Centurion are considered equivalent to the M48, yet it's a tier higher than both in WoT.

I wonder if they're worried about people complaining about not having laser rangefinders and IR sights, heheh.

There used to be an M60 Patton on display at the American Legion post close to my house.

There are tanks on display all over the place, you just have to look for them here. On the seafront outside the D-Day museum is a grizzly and a Chuchill Crocodile close to where I live.
It is a shame to hear about the M60 being a clan wars only tank. It doesn't make a lot of sense. Would have been better to branch off of a tier 9.
I was trying to find comparisons in size between a 20pdr and an 88mm shell to see if cost is in there but I couldn't find it. Tax on penetration sounds about right for WG though.
>You have to fire lots of shots to do the equivilant damage of a bigger gun AND aim really carefully to turn a profit. I mean, I can understand a large callibre gun aiming for a weakspot, because when it goes through you do a ton of damage then duck back into safety, but the small ones have to constantly be shooting at any possible target to pile on the damage. When they cost a fortune for their tier it just doesn't work.

Anyone have an idea on how much longer the test servers are going to be up? I'm hoping for one last chance to have a few rounds with the Leopard 1 tomorrow.

That's not to mention the bigger problem with DPS tanks, it forces you to be a sitting duck. DPS tanks need to sit out in the open, often with poor armour, shooting again and again at targets. They have no flexibility to shift and move or duck and bob around cover unless they are extremely fast like the Cromwell, which is likely the only reason it is so widely regarded the best in the entire tech tree. If a DPS tank tries to use cover, all its doing is removing its one "advantage."

Unfortunately, it never rains but it pours people. The Russians got 8.5...and the Sexton has been removed. It will not be arriving in 8.5 at all. WG sites it as "balancing issues." I presume it must have killed a Russian tank at some point to have them go OH WE CAN'T HAVE THAT.

So yeah, we're not even getting our one arty. And no arty tree until 8.7 at the earliest...likely longer. Meanwhile, they are allegedly pushing madly to acquire a Chinese tier 8 premium based on the '112' tank.

Somehow, I can't help but feel this is based upon someone looking at where the money is coming from.

The Chinese server is a lot different to the others- they still have the removed premium tanks that were too horribly broken, so their Chinese players can spend their money there.
This new premium hopefully will have some serious flaws.
I'm in two minds about the Sexton. No British arty is a bummer but at the same time it would make life a living hell in my slow tier 5-6 tanks and as a general rule I don't like arty.
I agree, DPS tanks without an autoloader are really situational. When they work they're great but in the vast majority of situations they're horribly under par.
I'm just praying that the Centurion has a decent gun depression otherwise it is going to suck compared to the Comet (I'm halfway there at the mo).

So I've been looking around to find what else from British history could work, I've located the following.

FV3802, FV3805, FV3806 - These have no really attached images or info other than that they carried 25 pounder, 5.5 and 7.5 inch artillery guns respectively and were based on Centurion chassis'. Good high tier artillery I'd imagine for the British! Info on the first two here.

Yeramba - This is essentially an Australian Commonwealth built Sexton. Not much different bar it's more Aussie.

Crusader SP was actually two separate tanks. One was a 5.5 inch artillery gun on a Crusader chassis, they other was redesigned by Argentina to have a full box enclosure and mounted 75mm and 105mm French howitzers.

This one you all might like. A Jagdchieftain! Mounting an L11A5 gun on a TD mount with hugely thick frontal armour (originally meant to be Chobham composite, the prototype only had steel, so it still works). This would be a beast of a tier 10 TD. Only thing is it's from 1972...however the way it works is all applicable. It used 60's engines, a 60's gun, 60's hull, 60's armour...it was just made later. That's all.

The FV4201 Early Concept Model with a picture here. This was a very early idea for a Chieftain, predating even the prototype Chieftain P6. So this could actually end up becoming the Tier 8 Premium heavy for the British. It was armed with a 105mm L7 gun, so it fits perfectly for a heavy gun at tier 8.

The A7 Medium tank. This was somewhere between the Matilda and the Matilda Senior (the latter being the one we know in the game) so it could work as a tier 3 medium for the British too.

The Abbot. A 1965 (same as Leo 1) SPG based on the FV432 chassis. Light and quick, it served until very recently with the British army.

The Medium Mk C. Another early medium tank. It was actually sold to Japan and very little is known about it.

There was also a wooden mockup built of an A8 Medium tank, but no information is known. Bovington might have something though.

And WG says they can't find ideas...pah!

This is why I don't play with my VK too often- I've had it for probably siz months and I'm only halfway through grinding. Also Premium tank crewtrainers help me out there- I'm tempted just to get a matilda BP as a crewtrainer and to bankroll the Centy. Either that or put the crew in the TOG, take the crew handling hit and do things that way.

Just realised, the Churchill GC actually does have a pretty significant purpose. It gets you the 32 Pounder very early for the AT-15 when it comes along.

Very handy.

I'm actually intending to try and visit Tankfest this year, see the only remaining and functioning Tiger tank, Tiger 131, the only functioning Tortoise, the Black Prince, modern tanks and all sorts of cool stuff.

Might get to drive an FV432 as well. Bovington rocks, they have so many rare tanks in there that they keep in running (and even combat ready for historical purposes) condition.

WoT gets more info from them on most country's tanks than the actual nations themselves can provide. They're just that good there.

I remember the first time I went to Bovington, just being amazed at how big the German heavy tanks were. Then going to the cafe and thinking 'what is THAT?' with the TOG parked in the hangar just being, well, enormous.
I would like to go to Tankfest someday. Might go this year if I can, since I'm only in Hampshire so its not too hard to get there.
*EDIT* It's the day after my 21st birthday so I think I might skip the traditional passtime of getting plastered (which I haven't been a big fan of for the last three years to be fair) and go revel in armour for a day instead.

-The Churchill GC getting the gun for a later TD. Does it make that vehicle worth the pain and tears in any way though?

I'm hoping it could be a handy grind at the very least to save grinding on a tier 8 tank with a non-tier appropriate gun in tier 10 games! XD

Valikdu - Aaaah Object 279. Certainly one of the more unique tanks out there for an apocalyptic concepted age...

The Russian tank museum is an odd place. I'm not sure if it's still true but a very small number of years ago foriegners had to be escorted around on a whistletop tour and weren't allowed to take any photos.
Since it has the Maus and the 279 right next to each other it would otherwise be a really cool place to go and see.

I'm actually more intent to try and see the Aircraft Museum at Berwick-Upon-Tweed soon this year, it's nearby. The stuff they have there is unthinkably cool. For one they have a Concorde you can fully explode, one of the best technological developments of our age.

But more than that, they have the holy grail for flight enthusiasts. A Vulcan.

The excitement I have to see one of them is matched only by the disappointment I have that I'll never seen one take off. A strategic bomber with the agility of most fighter planes. They are the loudest and most horrifying sounding plane ever to go to war. Argentine forces were known to flee their posts at the mere sound of them in the sky. They don't roar, they don'e whine. They howl. They sound quite unlike anything else in the sky

Indeed, there were rumours that its engines were tailored to produce a sound precisely on a bass wavelength that unsettles and provokes fear in people below through instinctual audio reactions in the subconscious.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OqA6bgFPGWI

Headphones + Loud volume - See if it does it for yourself. :p

To give an idea as to how good these planes were, they managed to launch an attack on the United States from the UK against the entire US Defence Network aimed in their direction. Over two exercises, 15 of 16 Vulcan successfully penetrated US Defences and droped "nukes" on many US cities before landing in Canada without ever being spotted by the entire USAF that was supposed to try and stop them as part of the exercise. They later performed this for real in the Falklands, refuelling 12 times in one flight for the longest bombing run in history (at that point) to take out Stanley Air base and caught the Argentines, their entire air force and air defences off guard in doing so, causing them to pull their entire air force back to the mainland.

I'll be going to Abingdon Air and Country show next weekend- it'll be my first airshow- I've always wanted to go to one. It's also a country show and I like those too. Planes, aerial displays and no less than two falconry groups in attendance? I think it is my version of heaven.

Also, has anyone been getting horrible server issues since 8.5 came out? all of today my connection has been terrible- crashing on game start, desyncing in the middle of a game and having to reload, really sluggish responses, like over a quarter of a second so I actually have to use auto aim if my target or I am moving slowly although my ping still says its OK and the Lag light is always green.
Somehow the horribly laggy games I've done really well in, possibly because it has artificially held me back for most of the game and we somehow weren't overrun each time, so I get to race in and finish the enemy off. It really isn't ideal though. I'm scared to play the Comet or higher because it would get really nasty playing those vehicles and hitting a wall of lag.

I've had an odd stutter that happens every twenty seconds in some maps, like the optimisation isn't going well.

That said, I use an nVidia card, they are meant to have issues in WoT sometimes on patches.

So the new "Tank of the Month" is the T-34 AND the T-34-85. The Russians get two then when everyone else got one, hm?

And then they announce their new special that gives bonuses to IS-3's, IS-8's and IS-7's.

Somehow I imagine that Tier 8 is going to be unplayable until this special ends. It's the KV-1S special all over again.

It'll be OK. there will just be lots and lots of IS-3's playing on tier 8 now. Who am I kidding? The next fortnight is going to be rough, especially if the vets jump on this wagon- the IS-3 is the best rier 8 heavy followed quickly by the American T32, if you play tank companies those two tanks will make up half to two thirds of most teams.
same with the KV-1s at tier 6, even post nerf.
I always thought of playing at tier eight painful anyway so I suppose there's going to be not a lot of difference in practice.
