The issue with the 20pdr is that it does about the same, or less damage than an 88mm gun, yet costs almost three times as much per shell.
It's hard to make money back with the 88 at tier 8 unless you're aiming really carefully- with the British tanks it will make it extremely hard to turn a profit even on a victory.
Luckily I have a lot of premium tanks to play with (although at tier 5 they don't make a huge amount of money), but it'll still most likely be a case of one game with the centurion, one or two games of other tanks to make the money to rearm it.
IMO even with the high penetration the shells should cost 350-400 per shot.

I just had a thought. What if someone modded the effects of the Grunt Birthday Party skull from Halo into WoT?

That'd be hilarious.

The EU server just had its special announced. Identical to the NA server. Of course this means money off the Centurion and it would be profitable to run this weekend. Unfortunately I don't think I'll be able to grind out the required 85,000 xp for it, especially given that I'll be working over the weekend.

Pros:

Bonus on the Caernarvon
5x will make the Caernarvon and AT-8 stock grinds much easier

Cons:

I literally just sold the AT-2 to get the AT-8. Dammit.

Might rebuy my Churchill though, just to help move toward the Churchill GC.

I'm hoping to lightspeed my way over to the AT-8 and Hellcat this weekend with the xp bonuses.

On the other hand (as Jingles pointed out in one of his videos), special event xp bonuses tend to bring the window-lickers out of the woodwork, so winrates might take a hit...

Ironically I find that T10 gameplay gets better during these events...because it's pretty bad normally. T8 will probably be awful though, especially since pretty much every T8 is on sale.

Packs a wallop, though. Had a friend who platooned with me in his first match of using it. Loved the thing and did quite a number with it. (wish I knew how to save replays. That was also an assault battle where I made the final kill with 4 seconds left on the clock, from a ridge, with the JagdPanzer, on a KV-1, at the top of his turret, which was just behind a rock. Miracle game-winning shot.)

Then again, he already drives some heavier tanks. I imagine it's like a Valentine AT on 'roids. Big gun, lots of armor around hull, little armor at top.

I'll probably be driving my pz 4 and churchill a lot for credits over the weekend. Would be a nice bonus.
I am fully expecting tier 8 to be a wipeout, but with increased credits its xp without worrying really hard about money.

Settings, under the game tag there's a toggleable option for 'enable battle recording'. It will make a file of every game you play in your main WoT folder under replays. Clicking on one will launch the client and replay the battle. It's not a video, it still requires the client and as such will be affected by any mods you still have installed when you play it.

Unfortunately that isn't the case. Gun is nice, yes, but the armor is only 88mm flat on the front at its thickest- and it isn't that thick on most of the front.

I found the PzIIIA to be a load of fun. I loved mine. I had small gripes about my PzIII, but it was also a load of fun once I figured out how to use it. Quick little tanks.

Been watching the Sexton 1's video from Jingles. Looks tragically awful. Low damage (despite what the paper says), long aim time, tiny penetration, tiny splash damage and relying on a high rate of fire.

I'm sorry, WG. DPM already counts for a tiny amount when it's on firect fire cannons. Do they seriously expect enemy tanks to just sit around and take it unless they're a massive idiot?

It's basically following up the same thing British tanks have been to now. "Useless against anyone that isn't actually incompetant."

I've been feeling like I'm harping on a lot about this whole issue lately (Those who played with me likely heard it) but only because it's beginning to make me genuinelly uninterested in the game. The Caernarvon has single handedly been putting me off. No armour, no speed, dreadfully underpowered tier 6.5 gun (in tier 10 matches), not enough depression to allow you to hide a frontally mounted ammo rack and even when you do upgrade it...becomes impossible to afford with a 20 pounder. It's a joke of a tank. It is only good against drivers who sit around with their flanks to you and have fallen asleep at their keyboards. That's it. I am losing 3-7k a battle in this thing, if I win. And that's without even the 700 credit a shot cannons yet.

Also with my experiences coming into the AT-8. It's a tier 6 TD, with the same armour as the tier 5 one...but with a massive 75mm section on its secondary cannon that no-one can miss and means it effectively has zero frontal armour on a platform with no traverse speed and a max of 20km/h. Oh, and it's gun only has 91mm of penetration. At tier 6. With the smallest gun traverse I've ever seen. Yes, it gets a 17 pounder later on...but it's really not worth the grind especially as arty autopenetrates you and your tracks can fall off to a Chi-ha in a single shot. If someone doesn't know about the weak point, it can kinda survive. But if they do...I've been beaten by Tier 4 tanks in a straight up frontal battle.

Now this idea is coming to SPG's as well but without the high pen or accuracy?

It is genuinelly beginning to put me off the game entirely.

One of the issues with WG is that after the initial three tech trees, they got it into their heads that tank lines should follow a certain 'style' at the higher ends of their tech trees. Unfortunately for the British, this means they're engineered to fail in most circumstances and require a true master of the game to use well.

Unfortunately for just about everyone, to be that good you need to have played something like ten thousand games, so playing with British tanks is like hamstringing yourself, since the one advantage they have is extreme DPM, which as opposed to alpha is horrendously difficult to implement, especially with laclustre mobility.
I'm half tempted to carry on grinding with the horrible Chinese Stuart and go through their tech tree and see what bias looks like from the drivers' seat.

To be honest, I don't mind the Sexton being rubbish, but that's more of my bias against artillery in general and I think WG is planning on rolling out nerfs to pen, aim and splash damage to everyone in a few patches' time in an effort to get people to stop playing with artillery (yes, one of the devs actually admitted they want to 'nerf arty to death') so much, so the Sexton may just be a glimpse into the future.
It is also worth noting that the sexton's damage is really high for that tier of vehicle, as well as its' gun size.

Incidentally, if you get a tank mastery level of xp in a non-premium tank over the next week you might get one of the broken Chinese premium tanks.

Watch Jingles' video. No matter how many times he hits tank, including completely unarmoured ones, it never does more than 60-70 damage. I don't know what that 280 is relating to.

Continuing to do what I can with the 5* and the premium day, see if the 20 pounder changes things. But..argh, I dunno. I'm feeling myself slow down with this game in interest. Especially as truly iconic tanks that defined WW2 I want to play are still likely years off like the Firefly.

High explosive damage works in mysterious ways sometimes, but also from Jingles' video I picked up that it's not a bad artillery piece- because it deals that steady damage and reloads fast it can reliably take apart heavy tanks but not be good against light tanks (which is what artillery was originally intended to do, but now all the low tier arty is great at wasting the light tanks).
The LL tree has been floating around for a while with the Firefly confirmed. When it'll be implemented I'm not too sure, but I imagine it'll only be a couple of months.
As an aside, I played a few games of tier 5 today. Every single one was score one damaging hit then die. Luckily I'm not seriously grinding with the Churchill otherwise I probably would have cried.

Says the guy with the high-level French TD. My choices of level up vehicles are a quick TD with a slow turret and paper armor, a heavily armored TD with the speed and maneuverability of a house, a medium tank with decent armor, but low speed and maneuverability, and a bobsled of a TD with shit penetration.

(I jest. It is possible to have good games once in a while.)

They go in with the game files. So wherever you installed WoT it'll be in the first WoT folder there will be another folder called replays.
My client installed to C/games rather than c/program files as a heads up.

I remember those voices. I installed the originals again.

Don't worry Robo I know

Gotta love this tournament WG is running right now in which they accidentally set it to be first to three victories- but you only have 20 minutes to win those three or you forfeit the next round. What.
