Well, here what I have is literally called a box, in english in the text. Specifically, a Bouygues Box, Bouygues being our service provider.StoneSlinger88 wrote:Glad I'm not the only person who called his connection device an "internet box", usually preceded by a curse word.
It's not just a modem, it's these devices that do pretty much everything (internet TV, internet telephone, etc...). I don't know how you call them in US, if you have them.
Once I choose a thread to spam, you can be sure it's going to be quickly filled.RoboRed wrote:Ermahgerd...we've hit 34 pages!

Mine's literally a box I've taped to the ceiling so it gets a better signal.

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
Out of boredom, I wondered what the five "main" nations might have as a 10 tier modern tank tree. Decided on the following:
Russians
Tier 1: T-54
Tier 2: T-55
Tier 3: T-62
Tier 4: T-64
Tier 5: T-72
Tier 6: T-80
Tier 7: Object 187
Tier 8: T-90
Tier 9: T-95
Tier 10: T-99 Armata
France
Tier 1: ARL-44
Tier 2: Char Somua SM
Tier 3: Lorraine 40t
Tier 4: AMX-50
Tier 5: AMX-30
Tier 6: AMX-32
Tier 7: AMX-40
Tier 8: ???
Tier 9: AMX-56 Leclerc
Tier 10: AMX-56 Leclerc T4
USA
Tier 1: M46 Patton
Tier 2: M47 Patton
Tier 3: M48 Patton
Tier 4: M103 Heavy Tank
Tier 5: M60 Patton
Tier 6: M60A2 Patton
Tier 7: MBT-70
Tier 8: M1 Abrams
Tier 9: M1A2 Abrams
Tier 10: M1A3 Abrams
British
Tier 1: Centurion Mk7/1
Tier 2: Centurion Mk12
Tier 3: FV4202
Tier 4: Conqueror
Tier 5: Chieftain
Tier 6: Aluminium Chieftain
Tier 7: MBT-80
Tier 8: Challenger 1
Tier 9: Challenger 2
Tier 10: Challenger 2 SF/CSP
German
Tier 1: ???
Tier 2: ???
Tier 3: Super M48
Tier 4: Leopard PTA
Tier 5: Leopard 1
Tier 6: Leopard 1A6
Tier 7: Kpz-70
Tier 8: Leopard 2
Tier 9: Leopard 2A5
Tier 10: Leopard 2A7+
Now right away there's a problem. The "modern world" tank design is so slow in comparison to the WW2 era that you end up with massive discrepencies. Some French tanks are way too outdated for their tier while others are furhter up or down than they should be. This would be worked out when it's more than just "one straight tree", most of the tanks here would be broken up into other trees that would allow them to sit beside one another in a much more balanced way. So that would be sorted out, I just did this for a bit of fun. :p

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
AMX-30 on the same tier as the T-72 ? Hmm...
Tell me if I'm wrong, but isn't the T-72 more armored and armed with a bigger gun than the AMX 30, while being as fast and maneuverable and with a lower profile ?

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
Pretty much what I was meaning in my last bit of the comment, the French tree is heavily behind the times up until the Leclerc makes an entrance. Which, unfortunately, is just how it actually went in real life, the Armee de Terre was still using the AMX-30 up until the Leclerc itself entered service in 1993 just after the Gulf War when the T-72 itself was already underpowered in comparison to the tanks that were rolling around.
Splitting trees and inserting other things to allow it to be on a tier more applicable is the real solution I'd think.
Yes though, the T-72 did have a much bigger gun. Its armour in thickness was relatively similar but it used more modern techniques and applique composite materials that gave it significantly higher resistance.
The AMX-30 was faster though, if only by 5km/h more.
Really I was just making them based on "rough tank development" to then see how it would look and what problems would emerge. For example in the British tree, the FV4202 technically never had that 105mm gun and it came long after the Conqueror...which is something that would need sorted unto itself as well. The Germans aren't looking too hot either in their early tiers.

Oh, I understand, and I got what you were saying on your first post.
Take this as me pointing out an example reinforcing your argument about trees and branches. :D

What is it with that number?
That said for my graduation earlier this week I got the ticket with the seat number R 34.
Many laughs were had at that.
In WoT news, I'm about 18k of xp away from my first tier 9 tank, the Tier 9 VK heavy tank. I also have the funds to buy it, but that last grind is agonising because the lighter VK is a really bad heavy tank at tier 8. Sure, it's faster than the Tiger but the armour is poor and the best gun is the long 88 (Unless you want to use the bancrupcy cannon which is the short 105mm with a little less penetration and double the damage for four times the cost and less accuracy). You really have to rely on people simply ignoring you or being distracted effectively by team mates, which is a rare event.
At tier 8 at the moment I would take the Centurion every time. Sure, the hull is glass but it's mobile, the gun is fantastic and I have sixth sense for it.
I'm not sure about the King Tiger. On a premium account and with the long 105 it could be a lot of fun but I haven't played with it in a long time.

@Hawkeye: I want my Leopard prototype A, but the xp goal is still quite a long ways away, and the teams at tier 8 are so awfully bad...
On another note, should things go over well (not holding my breath), I will have my AT 15 before the end of next week.

Dear diary...
Even got a funny replay out of it. Some low-health Sherman Jumbo decided to pile drive me from an overpass, but missed and nicked me on the way down as he crashed, so it gave me a kill.

So apparently you can't sell more than 4 or 5 vehicles per day it seems.
This is gonna make things more difficult than they should be.
Does the T1E6 has any value as a tank ? It's worth 150,000 credits, but it seems like it's a premium gift that's otherwise unavailable to re-acquire by any mean.

It's a once off special reward tank for players for Wg's birthday or something. You can sell it for creds and a free garage slot...but you'll never ever be able to get it back or reacquire ever again. I sold mine because I had zero interest in it, but some feel the collectors bug with these things.
As a note, 8.7 has made the game unplayable for me, the framerate will not go above 15, ever.

Not really. It's basically the American Tier 1 tank but a little spruced.
