"It's all I have left of them, really," he says with a sigh. "I know this will sound dumb but...I like to imagine that they watch over the place when I'm away..."

[Tytan]

"It all we can hope for, and that they're happy."

[XT Vengeance]

"Yeah. I don't think they are happy with my career choice though. They wanted me to run a caravan like they did."

[Tytan]

"But you make it safe for caravans. They must be a little happy."

[XT Vengeance]

"Yeah...probably. I think they would be happy that I found a pretty mare. I just wish you could have met them. They taught me everything I know about not only surviving off of the land, but making it taste good too. And how to make a profit, though I'm not all that good at that last part."

[Tytan]

"They sound like great people."

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal smiles wistfully for a moment, then turns to her. "They'd like you. You help ponies. You're a healer, Clock."

[Tytan]

"Thanks. I think I'd have liked them too. They raised such a nice son."

((Alright, I gotta go.))

[XT Vengeance]

((Later Tytan. Just respond whenever you can.))
"I"m not really all that special...but I'm glad that you think so," he says, nuzzling the mare.

[Tytan]

"These days, just being an nice guy is pretty amazing."

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal smiles softly at the mare. "I try," he says under his breath. "Sometimes it isn't enough though, but you know how it is out here in the wastes. You can't save everyone."

[Tytan]

"*Sigh* Don't I know it."

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal looks out of a window, seeing how dark it was getting outside. "It's getting kinda late Clock," he says to the light grey mare in his hooves. "I'll let you get to sleep. I'm sure you're ready for some peace and quiet," he says to her, not wanting to impose.

[Tytan]

"Yeah... I could use some rest." Clock walks to her door. She opens it and looks back at Charcoal, "Are you coming?"

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal looks at her, confused for a moment, then he blushes furiously. "I...you...we.." he stammers. "Sure," he says regaining his calm demeanor, if only for the moment. He gets up from the couch and trots over to the mare.

[Tytan]

Clock leads him into her room. She takes off her coat and lays it on a chair. She takes the hairband out of her mane and brushes it out. She hops into bed and scoots to the side. She looks at Charcoal and pats the other side of the bed.

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal takes off his saddlebags, and leans his rifle against the wall. He then looks at the mare and takes a few tentative steps towards her, slowly losing his confidence. By some sort of miracle, he reaches her before losing his cool, and he lays down in the spot she indicated.

Charcoal is quiet for a few moment before he looks at Clock. "I've got to be honest, I...I was expecting to be sleeping on the ground outside again tonight. Not...not in the same bed as a pretty mare..."

[XT Vengeance]

((To clarify, Charcoal's rifle had been next to the couch, he never goes anywhere without it. Also, up until now he had been sleeping outside, with Scorch taking the night shift. Hence why Scorch is almost always sleepy when he first walks inside to interact.))

[Tytan]

Clock gives him a mischievous look, "Equestria's just full of surprises."

[Katarn]

One particular zebra creeping past couple, looking for something.

[Tytan]

Clock picks her head up and looks at Novae, "Uh, Nov... what're you doing?"

[Katarn]

"Shhh...he's here...." She looks carefully around.
"I sense something...elusive..."

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal jumps out of the bed, embarrassed. "I uh...I should go," he says, grabbing his things quickly and making for the door.

[Tytan]

"Char wait!"

[Katarn]

"Found him!" leaps to the door, blocking Char's path...only to proceed to small crack in the wall where spider tried to run away from her.
Novae grabbed him and placed on her head. "Don't you run from me again, Bob."

[XT Vengeance]

Charcoal looks at the two mares for a moment, then pushes past Novae, leaving the room. He heads outside, where he sits on the porch with his few belongings.

Scorch sees his friend and lands right in front of him. "Squawk?" he asks, cocking his head to the side.

"No Scorch...not right now," he responds quietly to the bird.

[Tytan]

Clock comes outside and finds Charcoal with Scorch. "Char, are you you okay?"

[XT Vengeance]

"Yeah. I'm fine," he replies quietly, not facing the mare.

"Kaw." Scorch squawks at Charcoal, puffing out his feathers. Scorch then looks at Clock. "Squawk. Squawkity kaw squawk squawk ka-kaw," the orange balefire phoenix says to her, trying to explain his best friend's actions to the mare.

[Tytan]

Clock sees Scorch trying to talk to her. She doesn't understand, but he manages to convey that there is something up. "Sorry, don't understand phoenix." She sits next to Charcoal, "Do you wanna translate, or do you just wanna tell me what's up?"

[XT Vengeance]

"I...I'm sorry. I know it's foalish, but I'm..." he struggles to find the right words, wanting no...needing to tell the mare how he feels. "Scorch was always better with words..." he says, his quiet nature attempting to take over.

The inside of his head was a war zone, his emotions fighting over control, all of them telling the earth pony to do different things. They arrayed themselves into two sides, one telling him that he should leave and never look back, that ponies like himself were meant to live solitary lives, helping only from the shadows. The other side side clashed, screaming at him that he needed to take this chance, no matter the cost to himself, for the rewards would be immeasurable if he succeeded. All of a sudden, everything grew quiet. The logical part of his mind, the one that had for so long kept him safe, the part that knew when to take a shot and when to leave things be, told him to take the shot.

With a sudden flurry of motion, Charcoal grabbed the mare, kissing her while holding her tightly. "I'm sorry," he whispered in her ear, having pulled away after a minute.

((Whew. That was longer than I thought it would be. Just for clarity's sake, the second paragraph is just Charcoal struggling with his clashing emotions. It's all in his head.))
