I'm a music nerd, but for whatever reason I don't typically listen to music while I read. I had a lot of background noise in my apartment last night though, so I broke with tradition.
When Blackjack went to examine herself in the mirror, my library on random came up with "False King" by Two Steps from hell.

Considering I agree that this is the basis of BJ's final form, that gave me chills.
OKay so listening to that track I envisioned the scene then broke it into a trailer
- Spoiler:
the soft gentle portion, you see her totally destroyed, one functioning limb and chaotic havoc in the Fluttershy Memorial Hospital, ponies in critical condition. then her operation, as the music escalates to around one minute, at about 56 seconds she is approaching the mirror, you still have not seen he augmentations, it only closes in on her face as she examines her self, then the music becomes epic and it pans around her body in small portions showing her new legs, the chest the the back and it cuts to parts of her doing combat or other epic things, being blackjack. her standing in front of the tank all that. as the music quiets it pans out from her reflection you see her face and fear, and glory approaching, this you see her in her full augmented glory in front of the mirror and as the soft music plays you see her cuddling boo.
Are you inside my head?

I didn't need that image.

I expect it to be asked by
- Spoiler:
- The Eater of Soul itself.
To BlackJack.
But not in any known language. Just a telepathic wave of semi-sentient questionning, after she somehow manage to get into direct contact with it.
"Who... Are. You ? "
It asks the question because it recognize BJ's souls, after having swallowed it once.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I just had a sudden realization-
- Spoiler:
- Triage and Rover both knew about the eater of souls. We know the camera was looking at blackjack. That probably means the third party other than harbringers has triage and rover as members as well. We know blackjack's friends do things behind her back.
We now know either horse or goldenblood was uploaded to the crusader. Could it be the third party is a collection of blackjack's friends and ponies she has helped in the past trying to help her while maintaining their own interests?
What I mean by that is Rover has a vested interest in blackjack freeing the hellhounds from the enclave. The collegiate has a vested interest in Blackjack freeing up that farm. The parts used to constantly repair Blackjack can not be cheap and she's been getting them for free!
You could even make money off her by making those bets on her and the group would be profitable all while blackjack helps hoofington. Pretty much the exact opposite of the harbringers. The harbringers get their equipment from cognitum. The third party could profit off of how blackjack is helping others.
The smart thing to do is if you run a gang or a group in hoofington would be to pool your resources to help blackjack and in return blackjack would help you.
The only question is which groups in hoofington would monetarily profit off of blackjack or profit power wise.
Collegiate got steelpony and may have a stable food source soon. The hellhounds would be freed. You could argue Big Daddy would want her around to continue the reapers being top dog of the gangs. Megamart would probably be neutral though.
Wait, what page was this? I think I missed that part.Harmony Ltd. wrote:I expect it to be asked by

On a general basis, I feel that Nine Inch Nails tend to really fit with PH. What with the angst and all that...
Plus, there's always that feel of desolation / "end of the world" with Trent Reznor's song. A very personal kind of end of the world.

As for
- Spoiler:
- Glory's Question to Blackjack about Boo. I think the fact this just goes to show how messed up she is in general and suggests some paranoia in her Especially after Blackjack cheated on her and the apparent Betrayal of her mother. She just can't trust anymore or feel she can't anyway. At least that's how I see it.

- Spoiler:
WHICH FUCKER TOLD YOU IT WOULD INVOLVE BRING DOWN THE MOON, HUH? WHICH FUCKER FUCKING TOLD YOU THAT HORIZONS WOULD LIKELY USE THE MOON AS A WEAPON, BITCH?! THAT'S FUCKING RIGHT, THIS GUY! THIS GUY!
If this is indeed Horizons, that is. Either way, I'm the one who said it was something Goldie would consider.
here, let me...Kippershy wrote:Thanks for the confirmation Somber.
Anyway, new theory time!
Project Horizons now confirmed for mega sized version of Folly.
Project
Horizons wouldn't fire upon Zebrica... it doesn't make sense. If it was
some kind of super-weapon capable of such destructive power of an
up-scaled folly, it wouldn't have been so secret - it would've been
used.
So, what could it be is now known... but what else does it do? What else indeed.
With what I can piece together, there's two options... though one is much more likely than the other, now I think about it.
Option 1:
Project Horizons destroys the moon.
Moon
rocks are known to be highly reactive with the eater, explosively so.
If the moon were to be destroyed then it's source of gravity would stop
completely as it breaks up - causing the gravity of Equestria to pull in
large chunks, falling down as a massive asteroid belt attack.
Where
would it land? Everywhere... including into the Eater of souls, which
would then likely end up destroying Equestria / "earth" as a whole.
This
attack would fit in quite nicely with the whole prophecy of the stars,
the star maiden shall call down the power of the sun using her left hoof
(EC-1101 in the PB fires up towards the moon with a beam so bright, it
may as well be the sun.) and calls down the moon with her right. (As the
moon falls. Due to most people being right handed, we "do" things with
our right hand, regardless. It's the expression used to describe the
acts we've done - much like a 'right hand man' does our bidding.)
The
maiden of the stars calls upon the power of the sun with her left hoof
(PH) and calls down the power of the moon with her right.
Sounds a
lot like it'd fit in. The impending damage done by the falling moon
would be devastating by itself, but with the fact that the EoS is weak
to moon as it is, well, that'd only make it even more damaging.
Option 2:
It
would skip the moon part, Project Horizons simply fires down directly
at the eater, possibly hitting some moonstone deposit that's located
next to it and sets off an explosion large enough to take out the
planet.
Though this doesn't sound quite as reliable a plan nor does it really work half as well with the way Horizons is.
Option
1 works because when Luna found out about the Stables, she was
displeased but understood the risk/reward. Hell, she was meant to go
into Stable 1 with her sister anyway, so it's hardly something she would
have Goldie executed for.
Luna knew about Flux and Project
Chimera, as well. Remember back to the whole labs incident with the
memories of Goldie and Twilight speaking, Twilight threatening to go
tell? Goldie implied Luna was behind the plan to some extent, so we'll
assume she knew about that too and accepted it.
HOWEVER, what would truly horrify her? Destroying the moon.
Shooting a mega-weapon on Equestrian soil would be bad enough, yeah, but destroying the moon? Destroying what is her special talent? Her cutie mark?
Blackjack
understands that. She questions her own special talent a lot and she's
seen Glory lose hers by force. Imagine how it would be to have someone
else destroy the one thing that made you unique?
Not just special, nor rare. Unique.
Now that, that would horrify her to the point of execution.
She would want him DEAD for even CONSIDERING such an idea.
What about him though?
Well, he loved (and probably still loves) Luna.
He
loved her to the point where he set up the OIA just to help her run
Equestria smoothly, to make her feel as powerful and awe inspiring as he
saw her.
He did everything he possibly could to try and appease her.
...He loved her enough to consider blowing up the moon should she ever die and things get fucked up.
You take his Luna away? You threaten everything Equestria is and stands for? He destroys the whole fucking planet in return.
The ultimate doomsday device.
You hurt her... he doesn't even risk giving you the chance to survive the outcome.
On
top of this, seeing the moon would only break his heart even more each
and every night if she was to die and he was to live in a world where
everything was fucked up.
That is why EC-1101 checks for high ranking
officials before going off - he doesn't want to simply fuck up the
world straight off the bat if there's a chance for everypony else to
make it better, even if it means he's suffering from his loss.
He's not that childish.
Project Horizons blows up the moon.
Luna was horrified and truly scared at even the prospect.
Goldenblood was hurt and wanted to make sure that if worst came to worst, the world would go down with him.
So, okay, perhaps he wouldn't blow up the moon but instead drag it in... either way, it involves the moon coming down to Equestria, hitting the EoS and destroying the whole planet.
...called it, bitches.
- Spoiler:
- I wouldn't go quite that far. At a lunar density of 3346 kg/m^3, or about 3 1/3 tonnes per cubic meter, 10,000 tonnes of moon rock just means a volume of 3,000 cubic meters, or a cube about 14.4 meters on a side--quite a bit less than the estimated volume (much less mass) of gold ever mined on Earth--perhaps somewhat larger if you assume the surface is less dense than the inner layers of the moon, but that's a second-order consideration. So it's not a trivial amount to acquire via conventional means, but far from impossible to get, especially if Luna could somehow hook Goldenblood or Horse up.

I guess the "use it more easily" line seems to refer to the PipBuck rather than the leg. There's a lot of "it"s in the sentence, which makes it kind of hard to follow. I can see what you're saying now, but reading it fresh, I was confused. I think this change would make it far more clear:O. Hinds wrote:The second one. I'm afraid that I don't really see where the confusion is coming from.
Scotch Tape lifted my remaining foreleg, removed it so that she could use my PipBuck more easily and wouldn’t damage me further by pulling on it, opened the panel, and fiddled with the controls a bit.
If I were editing this for reals, I would suggest giving the leg removal a few more words, then breaking the sentence in half since it has so many clauses all stuck together.

Re Glory asking about Blackjack/Boo:
There seems to be some confusion about this. Basically, Glory doesn't know what Blackjack's culture says here. She thought she did... and then there was the whole "Wait... having sex with somepony I just met without telling you is a problem?" thing. For all Glory knows before she asks, Blackjack could have just as cluelessly had sex with Boo (who's not quite a pony, after all) without expecting Glory to be even miffed.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
The new chapter was great. I haven't quite penned my thoughts on it yet but there was some excellent background going on and tying off some loose ends with the Marauders.
What really got me thinking was Goldenblood's conversation with Trottenheimer. Since Starmetal and moonstone self anhialate each other, to conserve physics it would release the energy of twenty thousand tons of matter. Which equates to 1.8e24J. Or enough power to rival the US's energy output for about a hundred thousand years. Or over seven and a half million times bigger than the biggest nuclear weapon ever detonated. In fact, it's 1800 times more energy than the La Rita supervolcanic eruption.
Scaling up ejecta from that eruption in a perfect sphere from the surface you would get a crater almost 3000km across and 1500km deep- over halfway through the mantle. Debris would be flung into orbit and the planet's crust would entirely melt.
Of course since the bomb would be relatively close to the surface rather than a few hundred kilometers beneath it, the crater probably wouldn't be that big- but there would still be enough energy directed downwards to punch a big hole into the mantle and you're still reaching the levels of 40k Planet Killer territory.
Trottenheimer was a bit off. True the planet would still be here, but the seas would almost certainly either drain into the mantle under their own weight (there is actually a lot of water down there) or turn into steam. The atmosphere would survive, but it would be a far cry from as we would know it today and certainly unsurvivable.
Some ponies just want to watch the world burn.
Others provide the matches.
It's getting late so I'm not sure how accurate my physics is, but I've checked it over a couple of times and it seems more or less in order, but with so many powers of 10 one slip can be huge.

Well, their manes look sort of glassy even in their normal mode, and they all flashed fully crystalline when something made them happy, so it may simply be based on emotional state. The crystal heart's effect wore off for the normal ponies, but I would assume crystal ponies can do it anywhere. (Thus the name. --Cass)Icy Shake wrote:“Harmonia from Crystal Empire,” she indicated a white mare who was… sparkling?
Outside the bounds of the Empire? Does the effect persist more with longer exposure in PH?
Yup, it should. Or make the subject singular as "an elevator shaft with a platform lift."Icy Shake wrote:Beyond the two robots was an elevator shaft and a platform lift.
Should that be "were"?
Well, you know... war never changes.Icy Shake wrote:Anyway, it also occurred to me how strikingly the attitude of the ponies of Equestria mirrored that of the belligerents of the first world war at its outset, even as the war ended up having a greater resemblance to the second world war and cold war in its combat and end.

Is it okay if I'd rather they went the Gurren Lagann route and had BJ ditching progressively smaller mecha until she's going hand-to-hand with the enemy robot?Admiral Stoic Rum wrote:You know Blackjack is well on her way to doing that tho. Agreed. I did some back-of-the-envelope calculations that the stated volume of moon rock plus optimum starmetal mass would add up to a small mountain -- a cone about 5,000 feet tall. It's a huge amount of material on human scale, but a tiny fraction of the moon's mass.Icy Shake wrote:I wouldn't go quite that far.

Well... at the rate she's going, or rather at the rate Somber is writing her. By the end of the story either they're going to use Boo as a replacement body for Blackjack.
Or Boo is going to become the closest thing to a daughter Blackjack and Glory are going to be able to have.
Just what I think at this point in time. It's always likely to change as the story goes on.

SilentCarto wrote:Agreed.
I found that the density of surface moonrock is 2200-2600kg/m-3. At it's most dense it would only require a cube of a little over 7 metres. You could put it on a few trucks and hide it pretty much anywhere if you carved it up.

Oh oh Somber, before you disappear again what scene(of cyberpony blackjack) would you like fanart of? I've been trying to get a response, but you are more elusive than a white stallion unicorn.Somber wrote:Re: Blackjack X Boo...

That was my pick for Steelhooves' funeral in FO:E
Also, I heard this on the radio and immediately thought it could be written about BJ:
