Yeah, it could work like this, Twilight-becoming-an-alicorn fans would get their share but the show could still go on.
Though there's still the sense of finality to it. Twilight finishing her studies, though I guess there's never limit to what one can learn about friendship. Every time you think you know it all something new pops out.

No no no, it would end with Twilight's choice and her friends' actions showing Celestia and Luna there was a different solution, thus THEY would be the ones to learn something, so one of the messages is learning never ends :P

I think someone who lives as long as Celestia should be capable of seeing multiple solutions, especially in this case since the Elements of Harmony and Magic of Friendship has proven to be stronger than any alicorn so far every time, even if Twilight would potentially be an exceptionally powerful one.
But yeah, I see your point in this. :)

What is going to be bad for Twilight though is that she's going to outlive ever one of her friends and family if she becomes a alicorn.

I don't think she'll become an Alicorn, since I really see no reasoning behind it. I think that Celestia is just making sure that Twilight, being the element of magic, is as strong in that element as she can be so that she can be ready for any threat they may have to face.

Well to me it sounded awfully lot like she wanted her to be ready for something specific and not necessarily a threat since they didn't seem to be in a hurry about it, also it sounded like something they were planning for some time already. And only for Twilight alone, not the rest of the Elements, I think if it was something concerning the Elements, all of them would be important and should be included. But hey, it wouldn't be the first time my theories were wrong.

I'm sticking with the rough draft of what Swicked came up with for now nevertheless. It's a good middle-ground option.

Swicked's theory about refusal to become an alicorn would make sense, especially since it works with the theme of the show.

Beside that, I don't see why she'd become an alicorn anyway. Remember how John de Lancie recorded lines? Probably for Discord again. They might have to deal with him again, that might have something to do with it.

Discord happening is very likely at this point, but in this case that would mean Celestia and Luna already know (and have for some time) that he'll return or will otherwise cause trouble. And since Twilight and the Elements already faced and are familiar with him, why not tell her outright? And again, if the reason were something concerning Discord from the beginning, why involve only Twilight and not the rest of the Elements as well, as far as we know the Elements are the only force capable of defeating him and they rely on all 6 of them, not just Twilight.

Well, if I remember it right, he escaped, because Celestia and Luna lost their connection to the Elements, so their magic keeping him imprisoned began weakening over time until one day after 1000 years it got weak enough for him to escape.
So if we take average Pony life-span and add around 1000 years, we should get the time it'd take for the current spell to wear off again. Unless, of course, something goes wrong.

So, yeah, I think we can most likely expect him to appear in the "Alicorn history" episode.

Maybe. Kind of depends on whether Cadence is the Crystal Princess of old. I don't remember seeing her leaving the Empire at the end. Would definitely add another dimension to her being trapped in the old mines. But either way, To Be An Alicorn.

I thought it was fun overall. Neither the best nor the worst opener/closer (on par with NMM rather than Season 2, and Best Night Ever is pretty much just another episode), but the animation and music are really getting amazing. I've already said this in the new Project Horizons Chat thread, but I saw validation for anti-magic devices (especially horn-mounts) and a scene strikingly similar to Eternal. And honestly, I'm glad that most of their time-cutting was from Sombra rather than the plot. We've actually gotten a two-parter that doesn't feel rushed at the expense of a villain who even Trixie might be able to beat and who wouldn't stand up to much more screentime anyway, without taking a third part to actually make him a character (not that I'd mind that...)
