One of my favorite animes is Death Note, where there's not so much a story of "a boy and a girl" as it is "a boy and his god complex"

I would read it again, but I can't get behind a story that changes just to fit the new season. It was still great, I don't see a need for it to have changed for the benefit of new episodes. So I won't be reading it again, and if I do it'll be the original version.

Yeah, I like the mind games, and I love action. All this emotional bullshit you see in stories nowadays is why I have a policy nowadays. At least every third movie I see must feature a knife fight, every other movie must feature a gunfight, and nearly every movie must feature some Magnificent Bastard doing an elaborate plan of awesomeness/evil

My policy on movies and really anything is similar to Frosts. My mom keeps bugging me to watch movies with her and I keep telling her "If someone doesn't get shot then I'm not interested".

I'm a warmonger so I enjoy anything with a lot of gunfire and military action. Especially the rhythmic noise and lights. Suspense isn't that much for me, I'm desensitized to a lot. Only thing that really gets a strong reaction out of me is military pride/patriotism and something like the Weeping Angels. *shudder*

Yeah, my main turn-off is emotional-driven bullshit, as well as works based in "high-society" and other bullshit, dealing with problems that are best solved with a few judicious headshots instead using subterfuge and social games

Why weeping angels? For one, they don't kill you... they just send you someplace else in time. For two, you can just keep your eyes open or blink one at a time or something... it's not that hard.

The difficulty is beside the source/point entirely. They scare the shit out of me.

It's been suggested that one can spawn from the mental image in your mind. Assuming that's true then red-light/green-light just got more interesting. Even if it doesn't make sense why they scare me it's the fact that they do. Told my angel lamp to fuck off and got rid of it.

I'm almost the exact opposite. Half of me gets completely immersed and the other half is aware of what's going on. Despite knowing whatever it is isn't happening/can't do anything to me it evokes a rather strong reaction. It's a combination of annoying and very interesting.

I feel like I have the opposite problem as you. Get too immersed in any kind of story. Freak out even though a nagging genre-savvy voice in my head says things will work out. I know certain games use jump-scares to frighten, but I still get at least startled either way. And as for bad guys, fight or [flight].

as for how I read/watch/play, I belong it the read it now, over-think it later crowd, I can read/watch almost anything as long as it's not pure romance, probably because I'm reminded about my ineptness at it in real life, not a big fan of horror movies either, don't like jump-scares
