Re: Gun/Military Thread
The pump action seems to slide really smoothly.
The only time I ever fired a pump-action shotgun was at a fair, and I had a hard time sliding the pump.
Though thinking about it it may be because the shells were only, like, half-filled or something, and it messed with the action ?

And Harmony, if they loaded the wrong size shells in the shotgun, it could make it difficult to pump. Or they were cheap fuckers and got a piece of crap for people to shoot and never cleaned the thing.

It must've been, like Stone mentioned, a cheap and dirty (like you) or otherwise sub-par shotgun. I clean my Ithaca religiously, and it opens up very easy (like you)Harmony Ltd. wrote:The pump action seems to slide really smoothly.

Oh, I do not doubt you taking very good care of your "pump" "action".

Oh, yes, I'm sure to lube it up and pump it as often as I can. I'm always careful not to discharge in the wrong place, though.

Ah, yes, nothing like "cleaning" the "fouling" out from the "gun".
Alright, we're really reaching (around) here. I'm done.

Speaking of fouling, I'm going to need a dumptruck to haul away the gunk inside the shotgun. Finally got her clean, and aside from some spot-cleaning I'll need to do later, she's in better shape than I'd hoped. The bore is immaculate-- I nearly came myself when I looked through it after cleaning. I could shave in it. The internals have heavy wear, but are all sound. The firing pin's tip is very slightly bent, but still operates as it should and should still hit a primer no problem.
I'll record myself firing her for the first time this weekend if I get the chance.

Nice. Are you considering getting replacements for the worn-down parts, just to be safe, or are you keeping it as-is for the time being?

"If it still works, don't second guess it. Ride that bastard down."
None of the pieces have potentially dangerous amounts of wear. I could replace the firing pin for around $15-$20, but it looks like it will function fine.

It's all up to you, really. I'm just pretty anal about that sort of thing.

You're gonna have to fight for me-- you're not the only guy who wants a piece.
I got a 25-round box of birdshot I was gonna fire off at some random shit (it's a full choke, so no slugs) because it was cheap. Also, if you were wondering about stamps:
Right side of barrel:
"J Stevens Arms Co.
Chicopee Falls.Mass.U.S.A"
Left side of barrel:
"Stevens Browning 620
12 Guage Proof Tested" (yes, it's spelled "Guage")
Where the operator handle slides though the grooves on the barrel, it is stamped
"A.P.T.
11***
W"
The *** are just the last three digits of the serial number, and I have no fucking clue what "A.P.T." or "W" is.

Have you given thought to getting an 18-inch barrel for 'er? Make it a lot more handy to store and transport, I'd think

Re: Gun/Military Thread
For a shorter barrel I'd either have to find a trench/riot gun barrel, or another long barrel and just cut it down, which would also remove the choke. I like her the way she is, but if I find a shorter/spare barrel in the bargain and junk bucket at a gun shop I'll probably pick it up.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
I'm hoping to pick up a Mossberg 500/590 at some point. Seems to me like just about the best decision for effectiveness and all-around practicality.
Plus, I've not looked into it extensively, but the "flex" system or whatever basically lets the user change out parts quicker and easier. So that's nice.

You fail me yet again. Seppuku at dawn.
Anydick, by all reports it's one of the best shotguns around, in use by several armies.

yeah well, you can do that in Swicked's Refrigerator. Or on his bed, I could care less which one.Mister Frost wrote:You sicken and disgust me.
Its not like there aren't plenty of customization options for it, like rearsights... which are hard to get on a mossberg what with that thumb safety.

Nah, I've seen plenty of rear-sights on Mossbergs, including Ghost Rings, which are probably your best option unless you want to be the sort of faggot who puts optics on his shotgun.

Yeah, those things are cool as.....something really fuckin' cool. The fact that they're, last I checked, about three grand makes them somewhat less cool in my opinion. Think I'll stick to AR-family guns for the time being.

Re: Gun/Military Thread
A consequence of the short-stroke piston operation as opposed to the direct-impingement of the AR, if what I'm given to believe is correct. In that case, I would go for the HK416--it's a gas-driven AR from H&K, so you know it's gonna be reliable and well-built. There's even talk, from what I've read, of the Army eventually switching from the M4/M4A1 to the 416.Admiral Stoic Rum wrote:yeah but from what i can tell they don't jam near as easily as the AR does
