About the thing revealed with dawn and the rest.
Somebody pick up that phone, cause I called it.
Also it seems kinda weird reading them say "person" instead of "pony".

So...
After 51, I was like "PH is a good story and all, obviously, but it doesn't really seem like it's for me anymore."
After 52, it became, "Oh sweet jesus this is the greatest thing I've ever read Somber you are a Goddess."
Wat.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
This new chapter was... amazing. My thoughts in the spoilers
- Spoiler:
First off I called it. I called Dawn being the prophet of the Harbingers.
The scene with P-21 and BJ as well as the memory orb was touching. For P-21 being out of the spotlight for so long, it is nice to see him get a lot of attention. While he is.. conflicted he does have an undying loyalty to Blackjack. I really am starting to like him again.
Blackjack's conversations with Dawn was well done in my opinion. While she is untrustworthy, she appeared to have joined out of idealism at first. Then she went full on crazy well intentioned extremist. I never expected the lengths she would go to, it was very unnerving.
The scene with Dawn and Sky-striker, I got a lot of Saren vibes. Sky-striker and Shepard both tried to talk Dawn and Saren down from their goals because they erroneously believed they were saving people. Saren and Dawn both went through mechanical remote dominations when they questioned their goals. I cast a vote for having Mech draw Cyber-dawn
The reunion between Blackjack and Deus was both unexpected and surprisingly emotional. Blackjack's "I know what its like" speech and Deus deciding to spare her, I was almost about to cry.
A very well done chapter in my opinion. Great job Somber.

Chapter 52
Bloody good, as usual Somber. You plan things that far in advance? I really cannot laud your work enough... I don't think I had even started reading PH back then when you planned that scene...

- Thoughts:
Towards the end, I find the necessary narrative clashing rather aggressively with a fact that Blackjack simply needed to take care of the tank while it was impaired, instead of watching Sky Striker and Dawn, but I don't see any way how doing so could really have been avoided...

Started reading a little bit ago, got halfway through, gotta finish the blasted thing later. It's rather late here. Lastly, I keep imagining Dusk speaking with an accent for some reason. Just seems fitting.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Well, I'm going to end up missing the television broadcast premier of the new episode for having stayed up to read the new chapter, but I don't have a single regret.
Somber, thank you so much for sharing your story with us. And as always, my most sincere thanks to Hinds, Bronode, and Snipe, for the hard work you all put in to help.
This was simply a fantastic chapter, and well worth the wait.
I shall try my best, as always, to get my full commentary done as soon as possible.
Thank you again, Somber. I really hope things get better for you soon, sir. *hugs you gently*

- Initial Thoughts:
There's so many incredible things that happen in this chapter... The big fight is very nicely done, and I found her finally getting some real reinforcements to be incredibly touching.
Also, Sekashi and Majina were awesome, and P-21 is a badass.
One other thing I really loved is just how well Blackjack handled everything this chapter. She was being level-headed, and rational, and I think it really made her shine the whole chapter.
I was sad to see Caprice die. I'm sure I'm probably one of the very few who will mourn her loss...
In these recent chapters though, her eyes have been referred to as blue, but the first mention of them in chapter 17 (I believe) has them as pink "She was watching me with her amused pink eyes, reflecting the colors like stars", and there might be other occasions later. I know it's small, but I thought it worth pointing out so you guys can take care of it, whichever color you decide to go with.
Lastly, I think I know which anime Somber got his inspiration from for the tank fight. I'll keep my speculation to myself, but if I'm right, it's hardly a bad anime to draw inspiration from, and I don't think that scene was detrimental to the chapter in any way.
Thank you again, Somber. I really hope things get better for you soon, sir. *hugs you gently*

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
What's the rule for discussing the latest chapter that came out, regarding spoilers? Until one of you enlighten me, I'll go with the super-safe tactic of spoiler tag all the things! I didn't really gather or organize my impressions, but here are a few bits.
Wow, I just spent the last 5 minutes wondering about what "episode" you are all talking about, then I realized it's FiM.
On a second thought, maybe not.
- Spoiler:
- Ah god, smash me with a hammer if chapter wasn't awesome! I liked the attention paid to the changing environment and the way they were described. I loved it.
To me, the confrontation dialogue between Dawn and Blackjack was the highlight. I think BJ produced a realistic, humanpony attitude that's befitting her.
I have a harder time fully appreciating the reappearance of Deus: while this idea's really fascinating, putting Deus into a completely foreign body made for fighting, in my eyes, doesn't support his story, hence why I can't appreciate this "mecha-cameo". His and BJ's one-sided conversation - it's not a pony talking to a mechanical being. It's two ponies, both having been put through similar grinders, who're talking - I think the emphasis should have been left lying there.
With the tank added to the picture, I'm getting "woman talks to alien/robot/giant ape" vibes. That's how I felt, but no matter. I'm still positively curious about this pony who's more or less accompanied us throughout the story (dang, it got really serious really quick, did it not).
I'm indifferent to Dawn's "transformation" scene since the emotional part was heavy enough in itself. Glory, on the other hand, leveled up and gained a new level in Badassery.

I know! The way your interest piques even when you think you've lost it - it should be named the SomberCoaster.Scytoharmony wrote:After 52, it became, "Oh sweet jesus this is the greatest thing I've ever read Somber you are a Goddess."

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Well, that was an action packed chapter and full of suprises.
- Spoiler:
- So we finally find that Blackjack IS descended from Twilight, which is cool.
Then Dawn, one more tragic tale to add to the wasteland. A pony desperate to do the right thing and with the charisma to make a difference, but ultimately who failed, forced to flee from her fledgeling (excuse the pun) family because of her ideals, then died alone in the cursed tunnels beneath Hoofington. But, fate would not let her rest easy and instead forced her into the thrall of the cyber daemon to work against everyone she had ever loved or tried to protect.
Whether she actually died in the tunnels or not is all academic- once the daemon caught her, deemed her a useful asset and turned her into the abomination she now is she ceased to be Dawn- becoming something new with only the last vestiges of her original being trapped, forever screaming in anguish at the darkness it has become.
Especially with Sanguine's mind transfer ability- take Dawn's mind and transfer it to a mobile extension of the Daemon and wrap the outer layer of her body around it in true cosmic horror evil fashion.
It was a shame that the monster inside her took out Sky Striker. If he does die it only means bad things as the enclave proper would take over Thunderhead in the chaos that follows. Not to mention Glory would be devastated at becoming an orphan in one moment.
Since the weapons the abomination used look like blades-of-anti-healing he's probably well and truely dead but I can but hope the combined efforts of Lac, Glory and his team's medic (who would go out on an expidition without one nearby) can save him.
I was sad to see Caprice go, even if she totally sold out Blackjack all the time.
Also, glad to see the Enclave back, particularly Lightning Dancer. I worried she'd been killed in blackjack's rampage. Kinda suprised the Neighvarro lot ended up in Sky Striker's bodyguard but I wouldn't be suprised if the Neighvarro command doesn't want them back.
The fight with the tank was cool, although I couldn't imagine Blackjack doing backflips. I kinda guessed we'd see Deus again, now even more monstrous than before. the talk down was excellent and I wonder what will become of him. Blackjack's all banged and torn up again so looks like more R&R for her, although with the thing after her I wonder how long she'll have...

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I'm currently out of town visiting family, but I managed a high speed read of the new chapter last night. Somber, I'm not sure if your muse temporarily deserted you so much as went into meditation so that she could deliver a concentrated burst of awesome.
A couple of observations:
For the last few chapters I'd been hearing Dawn with Martin Sheen's voice. I don't think this did much to change that.
I think I might have to rethink my perspective on P-21 at this point. I was never a huge fan of him before, but his attachment to Blackjack is changing my mind.
I wish Blackjack had heard Lacunae out, even though they were in combat. With the Goddess in turmoil, her state of mind (and what may have presented through her) would have been interesting.
All I want for Christmas is a Goddess being introduced to a balefire bomb!

- Spoiler:
- I really hope that Glory's dad makes it.
I can only imagine what the Goddess is going to want with Blackjack. I really hope that the Goddess goes kaboom next chapter otherwise it's going to be extremely bad news for blackjack.
I was sad to see Caprice die.
I wonder what is going to become of Deus. Will he continue to live inside the tank or will they hobble together a completely mechanical robotic body for him? I remember the professor turning down being put inside a robot to prevent psychological decay, but Deus?
Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Haven't finished the chapter yet, haven't written a review either. (Not enough time right now)... but...
- Spoiler:
- Here, let me remind you all.. I do believe that I was either the first or second person to say that Dawn was the leader of the harbringers.
I would try to find the post, but the spam is horrific to try sift through.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I'm just going to say :
- Spoiler:
- Dawn being revealed as the Prophet of the Harbingers was a "Haha ! Called it !" moment for me.
It was the eyes. Never once did she open them in the latest chapter, IIRC. That, her personnality - how soothing she was-, and the information that the Harbinger's prophet was a pegasi... I put two and two and two together, and it added to Dawn.

I knew Dawn was going to have freak-ass laser eyes or something. Called it.
I'm more than half-way through, but I felt a pretty strong sense of annoyance when Dawn said "You have no right".

At first, I wondered what they were having a party for, but I remember that Scotch got her cutie mark.
Lots of moping. I do wonder if she'll find that EC-1101 is worth it all. Probably not, because Hoofington is a terrible place with misfortune around every corner.
Page 2
Blackjack's skillset isn't very useful for rebuilding societies. More for guarding them and adventuring. Her psychological aptitude might come in handy with Rampage, though.
It's good that those days were good for P-21. Absolutely splendid.
Page 3
I don't think P-21 has ever made that gesture before.
Again, will it really be a good thing to find out what it is? Then again, Blackjack would be affected by that decision because she failed to finish it. Because she does those things.
I don't think plans for a vacation would pan out now, Blackjack...
Yes, P-21, tell her.
Page 4
Returned with a flight of alicorns... Maybe they were scared the Goddess would find out something?
His memory? Hrm... so they just erased Blackjack's, maybe?
Page 5
No wonder P-21 took Med-X. He was literally in constant pain.
So my assumption was at least partially correct.
Oh yeah, Glory was grey back then. Been a while indeed.
Homage, you are a naughty pony, teaching Glory those things... Or did she?
Page 6
A gallon of whiskey. Heheh.
Mega-X, huh? Neat name.
Good question, was Deus designed to be in pain constantly?
The Goddess would love to get behind that door... and likely kill every pony in the tower in the process. Maybe that's why she cannot know.
Page 7
Tarot. And wouldn't that make her able to bypass MoT seals as well, because of Big Mac? Somber's probably done it. I'll watch for it as I re-read.
There's a mention of Shining Armor.
Interesting that they didn't try to keep Blackjack, maybe she wasn't a relative after all? Or maybe they just failed to, I dunno.
Page 8
So it was P-21's assertion that she'd take it badly. Interesting.
A grenade? You sneaky pony, you.
Why don't they just cut through the walls?
Page 9
"Giant blue StealthBuck" Heheh, that's funny.
His thoughts on Blackjack never giving up and that she shouldn't suffer for them... Those might effect Blackjack a fair bit.
Page 10
"Don't tell Calamity" Pfftt, haha.
Crazy, crazy coincidences.
Dawn, you can be a spooky pony.
Page 11
Discord ought to show up sometime. I wonder what the Goddess thinks of his release.
Now what is Dawn up to?
Whenever someone says "Expanding horizons" or something like that, I think of this story.
I wonder if Dawn can predict weather in some fashion.
What could go wrong?
Page 12
"Lunaria", Interesting. The Eater might have something to do with that? And her becoming Nightmare Moon in the first place?
So she does want EC-1101...
She's getting creepy...
Page 13
Pegasus born to Earth ponies, or Earth pony born and modified into a Pegasus? I don't know where the second one came from.
Thus, the name Dawn.
Page 14
Lots of backstory, not going to comment on it much other than how it is very interesting.
Ambush...?
Page 15
Dammit, I thought she was good... Well, I guess she is... In her own way.
Okay, no tricks. She's asking. Maybe she should've tried that before Blackjack killed a bunch of her followers?
To save the city from Project Horizons? Whoa... This'll be good.
Take a gamble. You've done it before, Blackjack.
Page 16
A superweapon to stop a coup... Interesting.
Deus? Saving the wasteland?
Cognitum? Wat?
Craziness abound.
Page 17
Is Cognitum the Cyberdeamon perhaps? Too crazy.
So Cog sends Sanguine, who sends Deus, to Stable 99 to get EC-1101. They kill and infect most of the population with the disease. Probably not what Cog wanted.
Page 18
Exactly, talk first, shoot later. Blackjack has gotten better at that, but not perfect...
And now Steel Rain is involved. Fantastic.
Blackjack won't kill him. Dawn is playing games.
Page 19
There. She'd never kill him while he wasn't a direct threat.
Who are the rest of these ponies? Harbingers?
I would've guessed his Pipbuck or his power armor, but a kill implant works.
This thing is crazy. big ol' conspiracy.
I wonder if Blackjack has one of those implants...
He has a Pipbuck on him! He'd never get it off if he can't use anything more advanced than a can opener.
Page 20
Dawn is getting stranger by the paragraph.
Holy shit. She'd do that? Her daughter is there. I can't tell if it's a bluff or not.
Page 21
I honestly don't know what to say here, other than Dawn does have some conscience in feeling bad for "Needing" to do this.
Page 22
I don't think either of those things were mistakes. Those foals were suffering, and the Stable was dangerous. Very dangerous.
If they could hear her on the broadcaster, other ponies could too.
And Lacunae can teleport. Your sentries mean nothing.
Page 23
Of course they plan on killing her. I doubt it'll work though.
Page 24
*Cue A-Team theme*
There's P-21's part.
And Glory's. now where is Rampage? I wouldn't be too surprised of she didn't come, though.
Part 25
There's some firepower they might need to attack the tank... And there's Rampage.
Page 26
Her armor really is excellent. I've forgotten what it is, though.
Page 27
I was wondering if some of the foals would show up to help. Looks like some of them did.
Charity, even. That is adorable in its own way.
Big(little?) damn heroes, they are all there.
Page 28
You can. It’s in your blood,”Missing quotation mark before 'you'.
There's Sekashi. It's quite interesting to see how her friends fight. I wonder who's side the Enclave are on though...
Page 29
Majina, too.
A very funny story, huh?
Oh no, Caprice is hurt.
She's partially responsible. Hrmm.
Who is 'Him'? Deus?
Page 30
She's dead.
Whoever 'He' is has a grudge.
Now we'll see who the Enclave are with.
Page 31
Twister, Lightning and Boomer. Friendly enough.
And Sky Striker is here? Where?
And Dusk made it. Good.

And her weapons, too.
There he is, and Dawn.
Page 33
Sky Striker seems like a pretty good guy.
Her eyes open?
She's been... Augmented? Mutilated?
Sky Striker might not make it through that kind of damage. What is 'she' made of? Starmetal?
Page 34
Ante up, indeed.
Page 35
Looks like her sword is a match for the tank's armor.
Page 36
I don't know if its a good thing her body will let her do that, or a bad thing. She needs some new legs. Again. Rover won't be happy.
Y'know, we were discussing n Adder's teamspeak who could be coming back after a long absence and Deus came up as a brain in a jar as a possibility, even U-21 came up. Looks like we came pretty close.
Is she... Talking him down?
Page 37
It worked. I wonder what he's going to do now.
End.
What happened to Glory? Anticipation!
RE: Footnote:
I don't want you to rush through the story, Somber. I, for one, don't want it to end despite that it has to. I accept that. You have a life with responsibilities. Just don't rush. Please. Your pacing is great so far and the tank scene was a bit odd but not poor. Poor for Rover, though.
Great chapter, I look forward to reading the next and any after that.

Regarding Dawn:
- Spoiler:
I feel silly for not being convinced she was the Harbingers' prophet, but that's how it turned out and it was a pleasant surprise.
And her transformation... I don't think anyone saw that coming. The scars were a little hint, I guess.

Just finished.
Too tired to comment for anything other than to say it was amazing.
Thank you.

Dawn's transformation was a bit...disturbing to me. Not disturbing in the sense of upsetting your emotions, but everyone went silent. The tank fight was pretty damn cool though, if really strange.

I just want to say that the image Dawn's transformation summoned in my mind was... disturbing.
Like "oh my god even by Hoofington's pretty high standards on the matter that's really fucked up" kind of disturbing.
From a literary standpoint I like it, but holy shit, that's hard hitting to say "Dawn is irredeemable". Especially when you add the whole "killing in cold-blood the dearest person in her life" bit. And the whole willingness to kill innocent foals to further her own goals too.
And also her scene trying to get Blackjack to kill Steel Rain.
Man, she's so far down the Monster Alley it isn't even funny.

To elaborate on my thought, you have a character that literally shed its own flesh to reveal it's true self.
Tear. away. its. own. flesh.
If there's isn't a clearer sign of "there's no going back", I don't know what is.

I went into philosopher mode during that scene. The mental image of a beautiful mare turning into a monster right before your eyes made everyone in my mind shut up and pay attention for a good while. Serving a cause/person for good reasons, trying to help people only to be transformed into a monster and used as a tool bothers me.
