Lucky! I'm still waiting for mine, but I'm less worried now that I know there are others in the same situation. So they are as high quality as we were told? It's going to be nice when/if they get PH printed. (Were planning on it the last I heard, but let's wait until it's finished.)CalamityWhen wrote:So... I got my FO:E books a few days ago... They're AMAZING.
The story itself doesn't quite work for me (my inner editor doesn't stay quiet long enough for me to enjoy it or to sympathize with the characters), but I have found that it is a good framework for your own imagination. "Rainbow" in what I've made has much more personality, and a lot of the WTF decisions actually have some emotion-based "tweaks". Still doesn't make for an amazing story, but gives you more stake in the events.nebulous wrote:I liked it because it was written skillfully enough to make me react in a strongly emotional way. (I yelled "no" at the screen. Involuntarily.) I didn't find it sad, I just found it awful and unacceptable that Celestia would tear a family apart like that, and even make a show of erasing the main characters' memories of being a family.Caoimhe wrote:I was told about it while doing research. It sounds like it was written by someone with severe crippling depression.
From what I've heard: A man who lives alone without friends discovers and raises Rainbow Dash as if she was his daughter, a act which amounts to his only joy in life. She even calls him "daddy." I haven't read the story but it sounds like a cry for help from someone too lonely to function.
Fans of it are literally moved to tears. The concept and reaction makes me feel really uncomfortable.
I'm similar. I'd actually love to be a pegasus (never got over the youthful wish for biological wings), but I feel that I would better fit the earth pony mentality/physiology. Don't know anything else about my ponysona, but he is an earth pony who loves the sky.nebulous wrote:Oh yeah. I made it a point to have my ponysona be an earth pony for that reason. And also because I feel more normal than magical or flight-inclined.IncoherentOrange wrote:Has anyone else noticed the abundance of OC unicorns in this fandom when compared to everything else, even pegasi?
With the number of US-related puns for background cities, that's the feeling I got as well, if a bit smaller. And the map does seem support that height—probably southern Canada to around Oklahoma-latitude, with other territories continuing beyond. Even if it is more compressed east-west than it is north-south, though, it's likely only a fraction of the width.nebulous wrote:I did. And the new official map makes it look around US-sized, what with the snowy north and a desert south.Cptadder wrote:it gets back to the nebulous nature of the show topography as we just got a "canon" map of Equestria which depending on the scale leaves Equestria quite small compared to the Germany sized country most of us were picturing... maybe a bit bigger... maybe Texas or even bigger Saudi Araba sized. I don't think anyone was picturing Equestria on the size range of an Australia or a United States.
I'd like to see that as well. If it makes it any easier, Red Eye's seems like it could be a good story to be told through a journal, which might be a bit more familiar of a format for you.nebulous wrote:RandomBlank, you have an amazing story for Red Eye. Do you think you could write it into a fic some time?
Hmm... that doesn't seem to add anything to continue the discussions. Sorry!

Try taking a pack of fire geckos in FO2 with a 9mm pistol. I dare you. In NV it's rather easy. In FO2 you'll never, ever be safe from them, not even with the best armor and weapons; a crit can and will OHKO you.
And not all OCs are ponysonas, not nearly; I have numerous pony OCs, none of which are supposed to be like me.

@military connections
My grandpa was a demolitions expert in the Army during the Korean War, his father was in WW2, and I will be joining the Army myself when I get in shape.
@ponysonas
I tend to base all of my OCs on realy people, few exceptions.

@Wave: Sounds like someone hasn't gotten their bi-weekly dose of 50 CC of Boo :P
@Calamity: Grats :3 Would personally might have wanted them as well, but would have wanted the "logically missing part" to be corrected first, I bother myself on that one too much tbh...

Back to the story, anyone have a theory as to what bastard is in the Core? My headcanon is that it's something like Calculator from whatever fallout game that was. It eludes my memory.

Yeah, in our room (we do share a room, Ketchup and I, being twins) there is a coverless fan that, despite all the damage it's received from our shenanigans, just won't die.

Yes they are going to to a printing of PH once it's done, that is pretty much confirmed. I can't wait until I have PH on my bookshelf.

Most people can't, there is something in our genetic makeup that tells us "yeah, I can totally do this" and spiny things apparently bypass the critical thinking portion of our brain and go directly to the primitive "what's that? I'm gonna get it" part of our brain. You can see it on display in dogs they do the exact same thing (Spiny thingy? Ima gonna bite it) and cats and we do it almost the exact same way.

It's a shame that many people think that the entire Wehrmacht was a bunch of evil fascists, while in reality it was composed of a mix of patriots, conscripts and relatively few Nazis.scootayay wrote:@military connection: great-grandfather fought in WWII up in Norway(on the German side).

I actually forgot that my cousin was joining the Canadian Navy. She's going to an officer's school, but has studied nursing, so I'm not exactly sure what's going on there. It has something to do with a special program.

Could be similar to what the US military has, where nurses can become officers and work as Nurse Practitioners on a medical ship. At least that's my understanding of it, I don't closely follow what the navy does here XDketchup504 wrote:It's a shame that many people think that the entire Wehrmacht was a bunch of evil fascists, while in reality it was composed of a mix of patriots, conscripts and relatively few Nazis.scootayay wrote:@military connection: great-grandfather fought in WWII up in Norway(on the German side).

Yeah, I know. I've come up with several OCs, but there's something about one based on yourself that makes it different. You need to take a look at yourself when you are trying to figure out how you would be mapped onto that different of a world. I'm not quite sure what my failure to do so means.IncoherentOrange wrote:And not all OCs are ponysonas, not nearly; I have numerous pony OCs, none of which are supposed to be like me.
Yay! It's been a long wait, but I'd say it's worth it. And I wonder what they will be doing until PH is ready. I heard that Pink Eyes was planned for the interim, but it seems like they might need a few more stories with the new schedule. (Somber, THIS IS NOT A CRITICISM OF YOUR SPEED! Take as long as you need for your new job!) Does anyone know of any other completed or nearly completed Fo:E sidefics that would be worth printing?scootayay wrote:That is correct. Pink Eyes would need a serious overhaul, or maybe even an all-out re-write, to be fit to print, I'd say.
I liked the story, but I feel there were serious issues with the writing (style, pacing, characterization, ...).

I'd personally lean toward realism. I'm not quite sure how much damage a 9mm tends to do (low end, right?), but anything spitting fire at you would probably be rather deadly.
9x19mm Parabellum is a low-end cartridge but widely popular because of it's light weight, cheap to make, and decent ballistics. However it aint perfect. There are stories floating around of between 20-38 shots of 9mm of unknown type and powder load to take down a person. Just my 2 cents.

20-38 shots?
Now, are these being shot into an armoured target or otherwise? Because if it's with body armour, that's... okay, not acceptable but still, understandable. Without B.A? You might as well be shooting a .22

It's rare but it happens. I once saw something about a woman who had taken a .380 pistol and shot her husband three times in the head while he was asleep. He got up next morning and went to work, didn't know he was damaged until either he or someone else noticed the blood. I know nothing of the sources so I'm skeptical, but it isn't far-fetched to say that ballistics can get weird. One of the best pistol cartridges in automatic handguns, so I hear from reports, are the .40 Smith&Wesson and the .45 ACP fire from the right barrel lengths. I'm starting to ramble so SHUTTING THE FUCK UP MODE, ACTIVATE! *sprouts a jetpack and flies away*

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
There are well know lethality issues with both the 9mm and 5.56mm round because of small size. The 9mm can and is lethal but it does not make the quickly lethal or disabling injuries that larger caliber bullets make. Time for a handy size chartKippershy wrote:Ironmonger wrote:I'd personally lean toward realism. If you want the super ultra detailed chart click here.
Hand guns basically come in 9mm, .45 and the two most common revolver calibers of .38 and .44. No one hands out .50s to any troops even the Israel's who Desert Eagle made the .50 infamous to millions of counterstrike players. Thing is the 9mm is nice and handy with minimum recoil for it's size and high speed makes it more accurate which is important in hand guns since it's hard enough to hit things with a handgun as it is.
However the small size compared to a .44 Magnum round or .45 ACP means that what you do hit, unless you hit something vital won't go down. This is a very well known problem for cops who have to deal with people hopped up on Cocaine, PCP and other street drugs because to be frank when you get shot with a 9mm unless it was a brain, spine, heart or artery shot the reason you stop is because you've been shot. The holes are to small to stop you with massive blood loss so the only reason you stop is because you want to stop. So when your tweaked out of your brain on a massive adrenal rush because you got drugs in your system you can laugh off a dozen bullet wounds. And that's without funky ballistics like Scotty of Star Trek fame who was shot six times by a Bren gun in WW2 which fires bullet 41 on the big chart I linked. Two should be enough to put down anyone but he got four in his leg in the "right" places to avoid losing the leg one in his chest and one took off most of a finger so he was able to be healed right up from that. People say guns kill people but with the right medical treatment, the statistics bear this out with one person dieing for every seven people shot. Military medicin has advanced to the point we can claim 80% survival rates for people who don't die in the first five minutes can live for decades where once that rate was less than 30% less than a hundred years ago.
That's a totally separate point from the fact that 9mm hurt and can kill you but they break bones the way a .44 hit can.
