Opposite time zone? Ha! It's not a big deal for me, since I live in GMT +2, we have another RP member in GMT +0, so it's alright.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Chapter 49 thoughts. Not a full review.
- Spoilers abound!:
1) Xanthe better be careful with overusing the stealth suit. At least in the standard Fallout universe, long-term overuse of StealthBoys caused pigmentation changes and psychological disorders in the Nightkin mutants.
2) I'm glad that Whisper and Stygius get a happy ending, or at least as happy as the wasteland can provide. On the one hand, I'd love to have them stay around a little longer; on the other hand I understand the need to cut the cast back down since it IS kinda bloated. And I was kinda starting to say "Hax!" about his shadow powers. (Tenebra's, doubly so...)
3) The same goes for the Ghoul Squad really, happyish ending, and need to reduce the cast. Good luck, kids. Have fun storming the castle, and all that. And, irony -- in as much as the Goddess's interest in Snails (and batponies) won't come to anything since she's about to get nuked sometime this week. I'm sad to lose Xanthe, though.
4) Totally saw Ahuizotl's death coming. I guess anyone who ever purchased Charon's contract in FO3 did, really. I really thought Ahuizotl might've realized that selling the contract meant he was no longer protected by it, though... Eh. Whatever. BJ made me laugh out loud with her comment about the gold.
5) Okay, so Dealer acknowledged that he's a braincopy inside a crusader mainframe that's talking to the spell that houses his soul. ....is that the first time this theory has come up in the story? I know we discussed the possibility in this thread, but BJ didn't seem at all surprised by the idea that Dealer was, in fact, inside a computer.
6) Eclipse is clearly somebody else using a disguise. From "sometimes there’s just no reasoning with my… with Princess Celestia", I'm going to guess the lost word was "...sister" and Eclipse is Luna in disguise.
7) I thought it was funny that Gnarr took the attack on him so well. Especially the implication that anypony who knows hellhounds well enough will OF COURSE shoot first.
8) Poor Glory, poor Blackjack. I know Glory needs time to get over it -- I'm sure P-21 has reminded her that in the culture BJ comes from, males don't count, but it still hurt and she still is going to need to inform Blackjack of just how hurtful that was. Hurling her across the room is a good start. Also, daaayum girl! She picked up Dash's strength, clearly... the Glory I remember couldn't have pulled off that move! Next thing you know, Glory's gonna go suplex a motherf***ing train!
Oh, and anyone have theories about what was at the center of the Maelstrom being tortured, presumably by the Eater (which is now a misnomer)? Was it Luna? The star-soul that crashed into Equestria in prehistory? Darnit Blackjack, REMEMBER!
Though I did like the point about "You're not going to remember this. How would you? Your brain isn't here to record it."

Uncertain. Luna is the obvious choice, but if it IS her, why did she wind up inside Eater? She died in Canterlot, nowhere near the Hoof. Unless Eater had an anchor into her soul from the whole Nightmare Moon thing.CalamityWhen wrote:Who is the entity in 'Hell'?
The other option is that it's the star that originally crashed into the zebra city that used to be at Hoofington. Not sure, need more information.
Pretty sure the missing word was 'sister'. We also heard a voice-change right before Eclipsed asked them into her office, which is consistent with Luna putting on her costume spell. What do we think of Eclipse's slip-up?
I'm pretty sure between green and gold, you have Goldenblood and Celestia. Not sure which is which.Who is the green figure being tracked on the board?
That seems to be the implication but I'm not sure at all. If it was Psalm with orders to make sure Celly didn't get captured alive, why would she fire? Celestia wasn't on the verge of being captured.Did Goldenblood really organise the attempt on Celestia's life?

Wow... that is definitely impressive. Is that an SPP tower on the right?Custardman wrote:Hey guys here's a nearly finished pic of the Hoofington cityscape, might add a few things later.
There's one thing bugging me, though, I can't quite figure out which direction I'm looking. From the dam and the bridge, I suspect this is the view from Riverside, but the river should be flowing off to the left, not into the distance.
Yeah, not in three days. Nausea, loss of appetite, and severe weight loss are all symptoms of morphine withdrawal. It can take as much as 8-12 days to get past the sweating-and-puking stage, so he's in pretty good shape, all things considered. Though I think Glory said she's weaning him off the drugs, not just going cold turkey.Caoimhe wrote:- P-21 should probably actually gain weight as he gets clean IMO, I mean it works different for everyone and I have no idea how Med-X works but there's that whole compensation fixation thing. Of course it's only been three days.
It's completely out of nowhere, but... do you remember what Marigold told Tarot?
"You have stars in your eyes. Don’t ever forget that."
And we recently found out that seeing the Everafter somehow gives ponies freaky eyes... And it doesn't even have to involve any necromancy, given that BJ came back simply by choice and having her body repaired.
I wonder... we've never actually seen a good picture of Tarot, have we? The closest we got was a photo of her crying into Card Trick's chest, and a wide-angle shot with her as a foal in a bassinet.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
This time a did a review/comentary-thingy:
Good luck in your moving, Somber, I wish I could help.
- Spoiler:
- I struggled against the current out of sheer obstinacy, but it was no use; there was no way I was going to get away from it.
>You're too close to the Eater, your soul is being sucked!
But as long as your body is still alive, you have a chance that Snails will be able to summon your soul and put it back in your body.
>So add "undead" to your list.
Or maybe I just have two copies of my soul frozen in that statue and inside my friend
>What is the bonus of the Snips statue? +5 to levitation finesse?
You are the summation of yourself, but without a mind, how could you remember?
>But the oposite conveniently works, nice.
It was a who.
>Someone is being soul-raped for years? Someone powerfull enought to have the direct attention of the Eater and famous enought to be known by BJ.
Or trying to, at least; one of my forehooves was missing and the other mangled, so there was little chance of me getting away.
>Silly Blackjack, you don't need legs to kill someone, you just have to be friends with_, I mean, shoot him.
But I was thinking of what could bring you back, like that thing on boats, ya know?
>This.
so we thought we were going to, like, look around and see if Diamond Tiara’s still around too!
>Fuck. Would be better if they never know what happened. Just that she is dead, so they could move on.
“Mmhmm! The Great and Powerful Trixie!”
>Iden to above. The fuck has been doubled!
You… might check… Maripony. Out west…
>And suddenly I'm not sorry for Trixie anymore, kill her free of guilty Littlepip.
Well, that’s good to know. By the way, Stygius, do you think that I’ve been putting on weight?
>RUN WHILE YOU CAN AND DON'T LOOK BACK!
...or just faint, that works too.
I just arched my brow expectantly.
>Ponies have brows?
Universal plug… I’ll just go through
>Sure, put a USB in your brain, nothing could ever go wrong! While you're at it, why don't you put a wireless conection too?
You might make me able to only speak in zebra, make me forget the letter S, or just turn me into a remorseless cyberpony killing machine, but really, I think the chances of that are probably pretty slim.
>More ammo to the poison/killing joke!
they’ve been broadcasting them somewhere as well.
>Called it!
You look like a freaky robo-zebra.
>Metal Gears Gekkos!
Just… not good with smoke and fire right now. Hightower was really rough.
>Somber, that was brilliant!
I had only my mangled limbs… and the bag of bits Rampage had found in Hightower
>And the Blow-you-face-up spell, don't forget that.
Got to give it to the stripe, her ability to muck up tech isn’t limited to just robots. One spark mine and his power armor turned into a fine bird cage
>I already said that Xanthe is awesome today?
“Ahuizotl was an evil bastard,”
>Almost word-by-word.
I looked over at Psychoshy’s bed, hearing her groans.
>I don't think these are GRoans, I bet Stygious is in there.
Oh. My eyes took in the sight of the yellow pegasus atop Stygius
>Called it, again. You're beig too previsible, Somber xD
The fact that there is a rape victim right next to them is worrying though
The Contract itself was neatly printed:
>I'm disapointed that the contract isn't "- A piece of paper with some writing on it."
Then he suddenly gripped my shoulders and pulled me in, pressing his hard beak to my lips and slipping something the texture and flavor of boot leather into my mouth.
>That was... unexpected?
Shadowy tendrils reached up around our legs and held fast
>I have read enougth hentai to know where this is going...
“You’re a prince?!”
>Obviously.
Rampage sighed as she looked away.
>Come on Somber, give her a break. It's like all the shit just bounces of BJ and hit Rampage in the face.
And now you're making me feel sorry for the mare who vomited on P-21! Damn you!
You’re the first pony who really makes me want to be better than who I was
>Because love is just stupid like that.
“Hello girls. Did I miss anything?”
>Perfect. Just perfect.
Big Daddy’s crowing ‘bout how the Reapers got the damnest toughest fighter in the Hoof. I think that old bastard is thinking of adopting you or something. The Flashers are practically ready to become your own personal gang. The Collegiate’s probably gonna name you an honorary doctor or something.
>And her army keep growing. If only she was smart enougth to USE it.
I was Goldenblood’s assistant
>Do we know his name now? The assistant was mentioned before, but I don't remember a name.
Lionheart
>Is this the canterlot ghoul from kkat's history?
Not again. Honestly, why can’t she simply go stay with Cadence?
>So there IS a Cadence!
“Better a dead princess than a captured one…”
>Magnificent bastard up to eleven.
“La la la la la la… not listening to Blackjack talking about things in her hiney.”
>Agreed, there are some things that I just don't want to know.
Dog ears cut out feedback.
>Absolutly genious. Rover is awesome.
You should try what she thinks about.
>Believe me, not even the Wasteland is ready for that. I need a brain bleach at each chapter.
Oh. Hello Boo. (Boo)
So I’ve been focusing on better things.(P-21)
Can you believe it, Daddy?(Scotch)
>
If I can get her off that stack of bottlecaps.
>Awwww, she's starting her hoard already. They grow up so fast.
You... You... fucking cunt!
>BJ, you deserved that. Actually, it's still too soft for you.
Good luck in your moving, Somber, I wish I could help.

@Stringtheory
I feel your pain, mate. Feeling aimless sucks. You're not wrong to hope that you'll find your way during college, though; my mom was studying medieval languages for a year or two, then switched into a chemistry major (with a focus on organic, IIRC) after taking one class. Now, she sets blackboards on fire for a living! (And does grading constantly) Point is, you never know what's around the bend, I suppose.
Oh, and Hinds is suggesting a career with NASA or a private space firm, I think! Programming for those fields is of course incredibly important, and it's very much an emergent field, with rewarding and cool work (I expect). Plus, you might get to go into space, which, barring Lovecraftian entities taking notice of you and/or obscene amounts of radiation exposure, is awesome!
@Chapter 49!
Yay! And I finished commentary within a reasonable time frame this time, too! :) (BTW, for my strategy on this, I read the chapter once, then re-read it while writing down thoughts, sometimes skipping around or focusing in)

- Comments!:
- Wow, new chapter! Bit unexpected, but hardly unwelcome! And to think, I was actually planning on getting on a non-nocturnal sleep schedule. Ha!
Anywho, overall thoughts. This one seemed to me to be a pretty excellent chapter. Slow-paced and low on fighting, to be sure, but that’s a good thing. Some down time is exactly what the story needed after the high-octane excitement of Hightower. This chapter was a sort of “parting of the ways” for some of the more recent additions to the Blackjack and Company crew; some ponies found what they were looking for, others found something to look for. And one pony met his maker in a fashion that reminded me somewhat of Saruman’s death (in either the film or the book, I suppose). Although… Saruman might better be compared to Goldenblood, all things considered. A topic for a different day, alongside the parallel of the evils of industrialization and the corrupting influences thereof in both Fallout: Equestria and in The Lord of the Rings.
Okay, bits that stood out. First off, the beginning: Blackjack got soul-eated. And you know this is the fate of everypony that dies in Hoofington. Not just ones in e-fields, either; those are a post-apocalyptic phenomenon. So, yeah. Cosmic horror, anyone? In any case, it was a very cool sequence – reminiscent of the good parts of Hellraiser 2 (a film that had potential in terms of atmosphere and design, but failed on many, many levels IMO). I especially loved the “immense disk like a circular saw blade.” It’s nightmarish, and a perversion of the stylized sun on Celestia’s flank. And, of course, there is someone very much aware at the center of it all, someone the Eater has apparently singled out for agony. Someone Blackjack apparently recognizes? And someone who is apparently the source of the screams that permeate Hoofington, which is quite odd, really. It suggests an attempt at harnessing the Eater under somepony’s will to me – a failed attempt, probably. If it wasn’t the source of the screams, I might think that this was the fate the Eater gave to somepony who came close to ending it, but… I dunno. The fact that the Eater’s screaming song is emanating from this pony suggests to me some attempt at control, or bonding, or something. Obviously, I could be very wrong. But what if “the meddler” (from the “ichor of the meddler” – taint – mentioned by the Room) isn’t Discord? He claimed to not have any interest in interfering with something as powerful as the Eater, right? What if “of the” implies not the source but the creator, or the primary driving force behind Project Chimera? And what if “the meddler” is the pony now at the heart of the tornado of souls (to borrow a Megadeth song’s title)? Again: I’m making huge leaps and assumptions here, following instinct more than logic.
Now, as to the identity of the pony at the center of the maelstrom, my initial instinct is to wonder if this isn’t Goldenblood’s final fate. Of course, there’s not much evidence to support that conclusion. But he ended up somewhere, and since he’s pretty clearly not the Dealer (and I totally called the Dealer being soul jar’d onto EC-1101 some time back =P not that I was the only one to come to this conclusion, of course)… well, he had to end up somewhere, even if he’s just another victim of the pink cloud in Canterlot. Too bad Blackjack didn’t have time to process the identity of whoever was at the center of the vortex… though I suppose that would be spoiling the eventual reveal, eh? :)
Moving on. I found Blackjack’s breaking down during her post-revival hours to be very potent. Especially when Blackjack asked for her pain to be taken away, and Lacunae said she would if she could. I doubt I was the only one who was reminded of Lacunae’s relationship with the Goddess at that moment. That said, I think it’s a sign of how much Blackjack really has grown that she’s able to express her pain, rather than put on a brave face (as was her wont) and keep it all inside until she finally breaks. It was a moving section of the chapter for me, and I loved it.
Also, regarding Blackjack’s resurrection, I’ll be interested in seeing whether enervation effects her differently again. I’m not sure that it ought to, but if it does I’m pretty sure that’d mean something. Oh, and the fact that glowing eyes are apparently a symptom of a soul leaving the body and then returning probably says something about ghouls. Why the physical forms of Snips and Snails (and, well, Blackjack) didn’t get all necrotic might have to do with the necromantic magical radiation that fortifies ghouls. Maybe.
Next item of importance is the revelation of further hidden effects of Blackjack’s implants. Yeah, I’m thinking somepony needs to ask the Professor about all this. But hey, at least Blackjack won’t be getting freaky visions now! Except for the ones from Psalm. Those ones aren’t from her implants. =P Also, while I did have suspicions about her implants before, Xanthe’s point about them not necessarily even being intended for Blackjack was a good one and gave me pause.
And then the Remnant had a nuke. Another quest objective, eh? Poor Blackjack, there’s always something else for her to fret about. And well, well, well, looks like the Remnant may be a bit more important to the story than initially anticipated… though their dream of exploding the Core might not actually run counter to Blackjack’s own eventual goals. I’m only saying. It also puts them in direct conflict with the Harbingers, I’d say, which a clever pony might be able to exploit.
Let’s see, Ahuizotl got his, in a fairly fitting manner. Killed by his own greet, ultimately. Also by a plasma cannon. Oh, and hey, I didn’t notice that before – Ahuizotl asks if Carrion’s come to give him a kiss goodbye; Carrion actually give Blackjack a kiss goodbye, which was understandably awkward given the issue of him having a beak and a necrotic tongue. Funny! (Also, I think some of the “griffins are weird” stuff might be explained by Carrion’s being a ghoul – ghouls tend to cling to things to keep them from going feral or plain old normal insane, and while I’ve no doubt that the contract was important to old griffin society, it seems possibly that Carrion has elevated its status far above what even the pre-apocalyptic griffins had. I feel like I may have talked about this before, I forget.)
It’s worth noting that Boing’s story is hardly unique. She was (and is) well on her way to becoming just another raider, or ganger, or junkie. And frankly, plenty of the foals at Chapel probably weren’t much different. With her work in Chapel (and the recent additions by Glory, P-21, and Scotch), those foals have been given a chance at a different future.
I fully support this Whispius relationship. And that scene in the hospital was hilarious. Psychoshy, you’re supposed to be recovering from smoke inhalation and stuff! That means no strenuous activity, I should think! Also, I anticipate Blackjack’s comments getting a nod of approval from a certain someone. :)
It was sad to see Xanthe, Snails, Silver Spoon, and Carrion go, especially since they’ve been given some misinformation by the Goddess through Blackjack (also: it’s very worrying that the Goddess can do that). Still, they’ve got their own concerns, and if said concerns take them from the Hoof, so much the better for them. Sure, the Enclave will be scouring the surface soon enough, but if they stay away from major engagements they should be okay.
Sadder still was seeing Psychoshy (Whisper, I suppose) and Stygius setting sail for his principality. I’m not a huge fan of Stygius, personally – I haven’t anything against him, and he’s kind of hilarious (and has a luck stat of 11), but he doesn’t grab me like he does some other folks – but Whisper definitely grew on me. It’s nice that she’s found what she was looking for; I doubt she’ll live happily ever after from this point on, since it’ll be hard to get the other batponies to accept her, and since I expect we’ll see both her and the batponies again in time, but she’s seizing an opportunity to be happy and do better (compared to her old life, at least). That’s fantastic for her.
Also, “STOP THOU CUNT THOU!” Burst out laughing. Seriously hilarious.
Rampage’s reaction to Psychoshy’s departure is one of the reasons said departure is so bittersweet; ultimately, what she learned about herself from Hightower was very painful, and confirmed worries she’s had for a long time. When that happens… well, it hurts deep, and makes you wonder what other fears and insecurities might be true. Hopefully, she’ll start coming to terms with what she’s learned, and find a way to live with her weird existence… you know, it’s interesting to think about what the existence of Rampage’s “base” personality – the pony we usually see in control – means for souls. After all, Project Eternity didn’t really tell us much about Rampage as she is now. Could she have generated a soul spontaneously, or created a different one from the shards of the souls attached to the talisman? Perhaps it’s more of a Venn diagram of sorts, and the spot where the souls all overlap is Rampage. In any case, there clearly is a Rampage: a pony capable of all the things any other pony can do, and more. She learns, feels, and changes.
Unfortunately, I’m a little burned out on conspiracy theories at the moment… otherwise, I bet I’d have oodles to say about the new information on EC-1101! Because, seriously, the fact that Goldenblood believed he’d been played for a fool is important. Project Partypooper was not a last-minute thing, and Goldenblood’s doubts suggest that he wasn’t the one with his hoof on the starter for that dark business. Furthermore, I thought that Partypooper was designed to remove candidates for EC-1101, insuring that Luna’s rule wouldn’t be overthrown due to its existence… Goldenblood’s orders to [probably Echo] were to deliver it to Celestia. The fact that Luna’s orders were different, incidentally, might mean something. But, in any case, we now have confirmation that the Dealer is currently considering setting up Blackjack to become Queen Whiskey for real. Now, we know that it’s unlikely that this eventuality comes to pass, but it is possible. I mean, Blackjack’s not really the dictatorial type, so I don’t see her doing anything but supporting the formation of the NCR and whatnot. Her role might not be important enough to mention for Pip. Alternatively, it might just not happen. We’ll see. It’s certainly more likely than the moon crashing into Hoofington; somepony would notice that. (Nopony noticing Hoofington being sent to the moon is also fairly unlikely, though at least that might’ve been overlooked in the coming chaos. Alternatively, blame the Enclave for it! =P)
Okay, so after nice chat with Keeper, it’s time for repairs. Which means visions time! Hello, Psalm, whatcha up to? Having fun in Canterlot, huh? Good, good. Let’s see, this is pre-Shattered Hoof, so Psalm is having serious issues with killing, but isn’t dead inside yet. There’s a map tracking the movements of all the Ministry Mares, among others (probably Goldenblood as well, and some green dot?), there’s a new mare called Eclipse (who other people have pointed out is almost certainly Princess Luna, which made me facepalm because I didn’t notice), and… there’s the beginnings of what might just be a conspiracy to shoot Celestia. If it looks like things are going poorly. Mm-hmm. Well… I’m still not sure what happened there, though there are clear suspicions being set up. But not everything’s a conspiracy; sometimes, shit happens. (For the record: I’m suspicious that Goldenblood orchestrated Big Macintosh’s death, not an attempt on Celestia. Did Psalm fire the shot? I dunno. Did they pull the same trick they used on her when she shot at the Legate, perhaps making Mac’s death accidental? I dunno.)
One last thing: Goldenblood says of Celestia “… she was Twilight’s mentor. Those bonds sometimes go deeper than you ever expect.” He could say the same of himself in regards to Psalm.
The return to Chapel had a suitable number of warm, heartfelt spikes of happiness. Seeing P-21 in such good shape made me smile, as did seeing Scotch. Seeing Boo made me grin; she forgives much more easily than some, clearly. Apparently, Blackjack has half-forgotten that she promised herself to tell Charity what she did to Boing, though, which is not great. Aaaand, then there’s the Glory situation.
Y’know, after all that Blackjack has put the poor pegasus through, I think Glory’s earned the right to be a little pissed the fuck off. True, I don’t blame Blackjack for having sex with Stygius; to her, sex isn’t confined to a relationship. But Glory handled Blackjack’s near-suicide extraordinarily well, and has always been there for her. She’s an amazing pony who feels deeply betrayed, and Blackjack needs to address that. It’s too bad somepony didn’t give her a crash course in how relationships work outside of ’99 first; Stable ponies don’t know nothin’.
So! All in all, this was a great chapter to start the latest part of PH off with. We had a few arcs from the last part conclude, we had some developments in the canon and characters, and the tension is once again on the rise as an assortment of pressing concerns, personal and Wasteland-wide, are revealed. And that cliffhanger, huh? =P This one’s not terrifying, but I surely want to know what comes next. Thanks, Somber, for writing this story – it’s always a pleasure to read, not to mention good exercise for my brain! And thanks to the editing team, too, for putting in the hours to help make the story the best it can be. And to address Somber again: good luck with the move and the job search! Hopefully, the school you end up at will have a creative writing program, because you’ve shown yourself to be damn good at explaining how stories work on the forums (not to mention the fact that you’re obviously an incredibly talented writer!).
- PH Soundtrack Thing:
Okay, here's some music I was listening to for this chapter, either on the first or second readthrough, for those who might be interested in that sort of thing.
DARKSPACE – This band is always gonna be my cosmic horror soundtrack, I think. It’s so perfect – turn it up to deafening volume, lie back, and experience the blackness. “Every particle has an anti-particle, its mirror image, its negative side… Maybe he’s anti-god, bringing darkness instead of light.” Say what you like about John Carpenter, but that monologue creeps me out good. For the beginning of this chapter, I think Dark 1.1 is appropriate. The wall of sound and screaming cuts in when the Eater starts causing pain. (BTW, if you don’t like ambient or black metal, odds are you probably won’t be a fan of Darkspace – think the slow-changing monotony of ambient with the style, production, and cacophony of fairly extreme black metal. It’s trancelike. Also, you’ll have ringing in your ears after listening to a full album.)
Altar of Plagues – Too easy a choice, almost. First, you’ve got their stellar first album, White Tomb, which is about the death and rebirth of the world. Not exactly in sunshine and rainbows, I suppose, but still. Then, you’ve got Mammal, which is about the concept of death, consciousness, and the relationship between those two subjects. It fits damn well with certain parts of PH, that’s for sure. Post-rock and black metal. Fairly accessible, all things considered.
And because it’s a dick move to only post black metal, have some NIN. Instrumental, called “Leaving Hope” – quite pretty, and fits for some of the calm, sad moments.

@ScytoHarmony: seems like the perfect opportunity for me to get in on the action. So yeah count me in.
@String: the world of military cyber defense is rapidly expanding as well. With a few years of computer science and cryptology, it isn't that difficult to get a job in the military cyber defense areas. Pretty quickly, you wool be eligible for top secret security clearance, and as long as you haven't done anything illegal and aren't insane, you'll get it. After you leave that job eventually, just saying you had top secret security clearance on your resume will open so many doors. Just another option besides the NASA thing, because if you stood between me and getting to mars I would have to kill you. And that would make me sad.

OAN every time I see ScytoHarmony's sig it makes me grin, nothing like that bit of free advertising.

What I liked
Another peak into Goldenblood and what I've been asking for, him getting played, him fucking up. Not the master manipulator but a smart pony at the right place at the right time who can still fuck it all up when the cards go against him.
Speaking as a military man, fuck you REMF Elicpse, who ever planned the Dawn Bay op needs to be spend some time on the Sun, the moons to good for whatever idiot thought it would be a good idea to send a special ops team to stage a fail assassination plot. You use provincial forces for that not your own people because if shit goes south your people may talk and undermine the entire plan.
Oy hey guys did you not notice Pslam there? The door guard should have given a cough of some kind that you've got an operative there hearing high level discussions and kindly move her to a waiting room and quickly.
What I noticed
Oh Lacunae, we doth love your lateness to the fun. And the implied fact radiation is a Alicorn turn on Literally!
So Lacunae can feel what Blackjack is thinking at her... Comedy... possibilities... endless :
Coupe of hard tonal shifts in this chapter, but hey Glory is back and I expected Blackjack to go out a window is dramatic fashion
What I disliked
Over all I've got mixed feelings about this chapter, the Flashback caused me some worrying issue re my dislikes. The departure of Whisper was meh at best to me but I did like the time spent in Meatlocker and the short time in Chapel. Riverside was the best part of the chapter for me, everything flowed nicely we saw Keeper again, met a hellhound and made penises jokes.
Over all not the best chapter but it had good sections and it ended in a great place and we had a need wrap up for Silver Spoon and her Ghoul Gang (Trademark). Boy does that girl have a hard road ahead of her but more importantly not a happy answer at the end of it.

I really like this paragraph, not only is it a well written but such an accurate summation of what happened in one million words of story to this point. Were I Blackjack I'd have taken a week or two off at some point between the getting blown up stabbed and shot.Blackjack wrote:“I don’t know. A month ago I was Blackjack. A few days after that I got mutated eyes. Then I found out my PipBuck’s the key to all kinds of pre-war technology. Then I had jelly legs. Then I was blind and crippled. Raped… Then dead.” That made him arch an eyebrow. “I came back as a cyberpony… and I just felt all wrong. Still do. I was suicidal for a spell. Terrified of stallions. Went nuts. Tore apart some pegasi and crippled a filly. Got some help. Got laid. Got cooked and irradiated. Died again… worse this time. And now…” I sighed as I turned the glass back and forth before me with my magic. “Now I don’t know what to feel.

The Goldenblood talk makes me worry very much that the Psalm is the shooter again that kills Big Mac and I very much from the bottom of my heart hope that's not the direction Somber goes. Sometimes a big noble sacrifice is just that, a simple pure moment in time when a soldier takes one for his goddess from an enemy trying to kill her and nothing more. No elaborate plots or double dealings just a simple moment in time that provides a rallying cry for a nation. No need to make it false cry

Re: Prince Styg the Aroused
The more time I have to think about this, the odder it becomes. I agree that it seems a little off place but I almost feel like his character is intended as a parody/satire of MarySue characters. We can see this sort of in his arc of being curious handsome virgin who beds the main character, then goes to another with no relationship drama, then we find out he's also a nobel figure who defends the honor of and wins the heart of his new love interest who also defends him. I hope this was sort of the intent because it'd be really strange otherwise. By the same token it also weakens Whisper's character for only truly finding herself from a lover's influence and then abandoning her friends (and essentially her world she knows) to be with someone she's known only for a few days.
This could use some revisiting in the future. I can tell it was a difficult situation to develop for all involved.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
@Caimhoi: Whisper's "friends" she has only known for a few days as well, and her feelings about Blackjack are mixed at best. Also, who said she truly found herself and happiness? Many teenagers experience "love" and get married or pregnant or whatever, and less then 10% of the time do they actually stay together. Well Whisper may be 200 and some years old physically, emotionally she is a stunted wreck, latching in to the first thing that provides her with a sense of security. About Stygius I hope you are right, because that part felt janky for me as well.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Finally getting around to reading chapter 49. Yay.
- Spoiler:
Page 1
Not many characters survive one death, but with friends like hers, she has more than a good chance.
Interesting. The afterlife reminds me of the "ghosts" in Metro 2033.
Page 2
Just a day in the life for Blackjack. Dying, facing monstrous creatures, blowing things up, etc.
Snips still has something resembling a conscious, or is an hallucination. I'm thinking the first one, as he was quite skilled in and affected by necromancy.
Is this the Eater Of Souls thing everyone been yapping about? I still don't get that part.
So her soul is just detached, and her body is just laying there. Or behaving like an animal. Like Boo, maybe?
Snips used his own curse on himself? Interesting.
Page 3
“I think it’s more that it’s hoarding them(souls), like a dragon hoards gems.”
Strange, why would anything want a bunch of tortured souls? I guess it all depends on whether this can be called Hell.
Oh, it has no purpose to inflict pain. "Hell" is a sadist.
"A dozen bolts of lightning struck the center, and for the first time I realized that the scream Lacunae had been hearing hadn’t been a what. It was a who."
I'm guessing Nightmare Moon, or Luna.
Life again. Yay.
Page 4
Looks like the experience has toppled Blackjack's momentary mental integrity. I can't say it was unexpected.
Boing is still alive. If crippled. At least that's a little good. Right?
"Something to protect me from from this feeling of wrongness inside me."
I get the feeling this will involve Glory.
Page 5
The slowest necromancer strikes again.
I think she needs to be told what happened to Tiara. She won't be able to find her.
“Mmhmm! The Great and Powerful Trixie!”
Shit.
Here comes The Great And Powerful craziness.
Blackjack, puppeted. Not good.
Page 6
I wonder, as many likely have, how the Goddess' death will effect Blackjack, and Lacunae.
Oh yeah, infiltrators. Might be still around, anyway.
Page 7
I wonder just what rules those would be?
"...do you think that I’ve been putting on weight?”
I almost laughed out loud at this one, with 2 people sleeping in the room.
And the next few sentences.
But, she's still broken.
Page 8
Xanthe is a funny character.
I didn't know she had a socket in her head for data transfer. But if it works, no more flashback thingies. Maybe.
Broadcasting them somewhere? Maybe the dealer has something to do with it.
Page 9
I wonder why the Zodiacs would want such data. If it is the Zodiacs.
Indeed, how DOES Xanthe know so much about balefire bombs?
A launch bunker. Fascinating.
“Xanthe… Twilight Sparkle was creating alicorns. Fluttershy was a traitor. Pinkie Pie’s law enforcement ministry was corrupt. Rarity was dealing in necromancy. There were megaspells aimed at doing Celestia knows what..."
How the mighty had fallen.
“The Remnant have one more.”
Very bad.
Page 10
I guess EC-1101 must be valuable to the zebras to get into the Core.
So that's what the MoA was doing. Good for them, I suppose, but it didn't save Equestria. Sort of.
Page 11
Permanent blindness and deafness from spyware removal. Well, it wouldn't BSOD her, at least.
I wonder if they could put EC-1101 in there without the spy getting it.
Looks like Blackjack isn't the only one troubled by the events at Hightower.
Page 12
Good that they are getting accustomed to the world around them. Except Twitchy, anyway.
So those were the Nightstalkers Xanthe was talking about.
Clearly, Shifty knew he was busted.
Page 13
Looks like he's got trouble coming for him. And from Blackjack, it isn't a safe position to be in.
Go to Dawn Bay? Now?
Page 14
It's probably going to be a trap. Not going to go well, I assume.
Looks like Blackjack has the ultimate upper hand in this situation.
Page 15
Harbingers. That's how she could make him rich. I don't think it's going to work.
Sting. Of course. The thought occurred to me but I was convinced it wasn't one after a few paragraphs.
I get the feeling that he'll be back.
Page 16
Buying Carrion's contract. Hah. He'll be useful to Blackjack's company.
Can't say I'm sad Carrion did that.
Page 17
In the early Fallout games, disintegrated enemies dropped nothing. No gold.
Boing...
Page 18
Quite the story for Boing. What a tortured creature.
She wasn't even with the Harbingers. She looked like one because of the bunker gear.
Boing sure knows how to dress Blackjack down.
This'll be hard for Blackjack. But, what isn't?
Page 19
I dunno. I'd consider Blackjack to be good myself.
Well, this was bound to happen eventually.
Page 20
I think that Carrion would be better left at Chapel.
Good that they are travelling together. I am going to miss Xanthe, and I hope they don't get to Maripony prior to detonation.
Page 21
Stygius' sister. Oh no.
Page 22
This is quite new. And the situation bizarre.
Page 23
The party members have rapidly dwindled back to the main characters.
To Chapel!
Page 24
Good idea to get new forelegs. They would be quite useful to a quadruped.
Quite a bustling area. Fallout 4 needs some of these.
Page 25
Why am I getting the feeling that this bustling trade post is going to be hit? Hard? Oh, maybe because Hoofington sucks.
I don't remember this Keeper.
Page 26
Dat reputation. I wonder how the Reapers are squabbling with the Harbingers.
A several chapter long wild goose.
Page 27
Wild Pegasus. I wonder how this will end.
Legends. Usually, open to interpretation.
Page 28
Hello Dealer. Looks like he's not going to mess with Blackjack's sanity at the moment.
Oh, and Goldy.
Page 29
Goldenblood trusted Celestia with EC-1101. Go on...
Luna did it. I see. Is LittlePip going to get involved in this? I'm thinking maybe, considering she'll be with Celestia soon-ish.
Blackjack? Not really ruler material.
I like Rover.
Page 30
The way Rover talks, obviously intelligent but very straightforward. I find it amusing.
So the new ugly parts will look like the older, nicer parts with fingers. Good.
Page 31
Catheter? *Looks up catheter* Oh.
Another recollection? I guess they weren't purged. This one's in Canterlot. And Lionheart is there.
Page 32
Blood testing. They did that during the later seasons of Deep Space Nine, to screen for Changeling spies.
The map with the dots, which I'm going to assume tracks the Mane 6. Cyan is Rainbow, violet is Rarity, purple is Twilight, given the teleport, orange for Applejack, yellow for Fluttershy, and pink for Pinkie. Green, I don't know, Spike? And gold is either Celestia or GB.
Or, I'm completely wrong and it means something totally different.
Page 33
This is confusing. A mission planned to go awry.
Page 34
Cadence? What?
Diplomacy never works if it isn't given a chance.
Page 35
Goldenblood seeing a gain from her demise. She would be an effective martyr if she died at a negotiation, though. But, Macintosh got the bullet. Has it been suggested or maybe even confirmed that Golden set up the assassination? Because I can't shake the feeling.
Page 36
What's wrong with Rampage?
Page 37
Uh oh... What the heck could that be?
Oh, he's Gnarr the Hellhound.
Page 38
I wonder how Blackjack could help the Hellhounds.
The Enclave. This'll be good.
Mind controlling hellhounds like they did in Fallout. Jamming time.
Page 39
So he can talk like ponies do, but he doesn't? Hrrm.
Page 40
Rampage is lost in herself. Not a good situation.
Lacunae's mental suggestion is quite funny.
Page 41
Lacunae is a funny pony.
Chapel looks swell.
Page 42
Boo. Hehe.
P-21 seems better.
Page 43
Much better.
Scotch Tape is better too. It appears their relationship has solidified.
Page 44
Well, I guess Chapel needs some work.
Glory is upset. This could end in many ways.
Precious is still around. Nice.
Page 45
Uh oh. Who told her?
She seems calm enough.
Page 46
She set up the broadcaster.
And, the end wasn't too unexpected.
Re: Footnote.
I see. I think Cadence can be used. IF anyone can do it, you can.
I die a little bit inside every time I read the donation statement.
I think I'll skip the extra scene. Better to not become confused.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
- Spoiler:
- I didn't write anything down at the start because I really shouldn't have been reading this morning before work, but I couldn't help myself.
That's right Somber, I felt a need to read the very start before work despite time restraints.
Missing a shower was worth it, though.
It's been on my mind all day of who is the "who".
With you, I should second guess myself; and I have been.
First guess goes to Luna.
but this being you, initially I disallowed it.
Blackjacks mother? No, she's on the other side of the everafter and she's not important enough to the eater to be made such a target.
Celestia? No, she soul jarred herself into the SPP main hub, and thus avoided all that nonsense.
Spike is still alive, Twilight is part of unity, Pinkie doesn't fit, Flutters doesn't fit, Rarity - as the element of generosity would fit in self sacrifice but it's such a far throw as to the point where I don't think so. Applejack doesn't fit for me (didn't she go off to Stable 2 anwyay?).
Rainbow dash doesn't fit either, in my mind.
So, what about goldenblood? Well, in theory, he could be the person. For all we know, he's dead now and for all we know, his soul was taken by the eater as hostage, but still, doesn't feel improtant enough.
Luna.
Luna died. Luna came from the stars herself (along with Celestia, as seen in the previous death) and Luna has the power to make her screaming echo across the world and cause that sense of dread, if she were to scream the eaters note for pain and sorrowful destruction againsty her will, that is.
If the EoS has used Luna as a tool, it would make sense because her soul WOULD be powerful enough to up the ante and back the hoof become deadly - this would also explain why it was never so deadly before the war, or even during it.
So my money goes on Luna. She's the first one to mind, and thus got removed as first choice for me, but after a deliberate selection process, she seems the most likely.
It was Luna.
Just read up to the bit where Blackjack has just walked on two legs to regain confidence after a bashing from the goddess, which was quite powerful. It's a shame that Trixie would remove such a memory from herself, though understandable at the same time because it WAS embarrassing for her to go through that only to be shown up by Twilight.
Styggie getting nervous? that's cute as hell.
OH Rampage, I love you so much. Can I marry Rampage? No? Ryx already has that dibbed? Damn.
reading...reading...reading.
All this zebra talk of the past is interesting, but there's one thing that made me stop reading and come back to this:
"our superior numbers"
You what? I thought it was the other way around? That ponies outnumbered zebras and that's why they turned to using mechs?
Anyway, really interesting thus far, really like it.
Losing Xanthe? Awh, shame. Daymn shame.
Still, it's for the best. I just hope she gets somewhere nice to live.
I've just got to the bit where they've discussed the betrayal and hero status of Ahuizotl. Nothing in particular to say but just want you to know I'm enjoying the chapter so far.
"His lips twitched, and I saw pride and greed at war with caution. I needed stack the deck against caution."
I needed -to- stack the deck with caution, perahps?
HAHAHAHHA
I was WAITING for that moment when Carrion did that.
I knew you'd add it in, especially after that little stunt. Shame that means all the bits are gone too, though.
hahahahaha @ walking "in on" Psyco and styggie. knew it'd be that.
Oooh, you've gone for the same effect as me with the enchantment being in the helmet rather than the armour itself?
I know you don't read my story, but it's nice to see we think alike on how that works.
Goodbye, whisper.
also, love the references in this chapter.
doubled, did I miss anything..
Glad to see that Riverside comes back into importance, and that it's truly revived rather then simply survived.
Damn all this, it's so hard to make poiints on your chapter today [currently reading talk between keeper and BJ] but I can assure you, it's gold. I'm stuck into this and it is utter gold. Thank you for being so amazing Somber, I love your story with a passion. You are otherworldly.
AHAHAHAHHAHA
OUCH
Catheters are supposed to hurt like a mother fucker, even when done properly.
Ahh, so you're not entirely using the same set-up as me in the armour? Shame. Still, it could always be spun to work the same, but it doesn't matter.
Interesting take on how you work the armour.
(royal voice stuff again).
Hm. informative dream. I like it.
Monster cocks.
Monster dog cocks
and thinking about how tubes feel inserted up your ass.
awesomeness.
and just finished.
...god damn you, I want to see the the next chapter too much now.
I knew this was going to happen.
Now I'm hoping that Blackjack is beaten to half death by Glory.
...though I'm also thinking they'll break up over this, for good, which would be absolutely horrific for me, as understandable as it is.
Lastly. I hope you're not referring to me again? Are you?
I... I haven't done anything recently have I?

I was going to list off all the stuff that I could whine about, as some others have done (not to insult them) but as I began it, I realised it would become stupidly long and not worth the effort.

Somehow, an idea of some kind seemed incredibly funny now seems kind of sad after I thought about it. I even made a poster four five many posters.
- I'm not entirely sure.:
And then things went downhill...

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I just finished reading the new chapter. It was enjoyable, which given the main points are losing team members to get back to a manageable size is no mean feat.
The being horrendously upset without knowing why after her stint into the everafter reminds me a lot of Dr. Who where people who'd forgotten things spontaneously start crying, but don't know what about.
Psyco running off with Stygie provides a valid reason why fluttershy wouldn't have heard about her daughter in the future. On the other hand, it does seem like a bit of a sudden move (but also would they *really* be able to stop hr leaving anyway if she doesn't like it?). I'm glad you went with the current version, the other is too over the top, even if the king is really cool and some of the conversation hilarious.
On the topic of thememory flashbacks, insinuating that Goldenblood might setup the assasination attempt, I wouldn't go there. Also I don't agree with Goldenblood's logic. If Celestia died, sure people could try and spin her as a martyr but it would still crush morale into oblivion. It would be like a god getting killed. I wouldn't be suprised if the war ended overnight and/or Equestrian society tears itself apart.
Also from a story perspective it would seem like Goldenblood is manipulating all of the stuff that happened in the past in the original FoE.
In general, the banter in this chapter was good and I enjoyed all of it, save the implied implications above. I'd like to know who the screaming is coming from. Nice nod to Heroes with the Dise namedrop as well. I'd like to know who the screaming is coming from, I really hope it isn't Luna but I'm sure it probably is.
I'm really looking forwards to the next chapter. I've probably said it before but I'm really looking forward to the fight between Blackjack and Glory, if only for the total clash of lifestyle ideology that's going to be thrown up.
Goddess watching with popcorn made me very happy- I always imagined she'd do that. I hope they stay together, especially given Glory will no doubt have some very trying times ahead and she's going to need all the support she can get.

It's Luna, here's why:

It's been on my mind all day of who is the "who".
With you, I should second guess myself; and I have been.
First guess goes to Luna.
but this being you, initially I disallowed it.
Blackjacks
mother? No, she's on the other side of the everafter and she's not
important enough to the eater to be made such a target.
Celestia? No, she soul jarred herself into the SPP main hub, and thus avoided all that nonsense.
Spike
is still alive, Twilight is part of unity, Pinkie doesn't fit, Flutters
doesn't fit, Rarity - as the element of generosity would fit in self
sacrifice but it's such a far throw as to the point where I don't think
so. Applejack doesn't fit for me (didn't she go off to Stable 2
anwyay?).
Rainbow dash doesn't fit either, in my mind.
So,
what about goldenblood? Well, in theory, he could be the person. For all
we know, he's dead now and for all we know, his soul was taken by the
eater as hostage, but still, doesn't feel improtant enough.
Luna.
Luna
died. Luna came from the stars herself (along with Celestia, as seen in
the previous death) and Luna has the power to make her screaming echo
across the world and cause that sense of dread, if she were to scream
the eaters note for pain and sorrowful destruction againsty her will,
that is.
If the EoS has used Luna as a tool, it would make sense
because her soul WOULD be powerful enough to up the ante and back the
hoof become deadly - this would also explain why it was never so deadly
before the war, or even during it.
So my money goes on Luna.
She's the first one to mind, and thus got removed as first choice for
me, but after a deliberate selection process, she seems the most likely.
It was Luna.

I'll be pleased if it is Luna. Being reduced to simply bones on a monster in FoE was kinda disappointing so this could be an interesting play.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Ah, thank you for the error spotting.CalamityWhen wrote:So here it is. I've finally done a running commentary of a fresh chapter. :D
It only took me at least 3 separate interruptions of sizeable length to finish - damn classes... xD
- Commentary:
“I think there’s a much more fitting word for it: Hell.”
-Otherwise known as The Eater Of Souls, right? This isn’t looking very good…
“…I realized that the scream Lacunae had been hearing hadn’t been a what. It was a who.”
-Right, so there’s an entity there, being tortured by The Eater, I presume? Who is it? To warrant such particular attentions would suggest that they opposed The Eater and its goal of collecting souls… Is it Goldenblood? I don’t know.. Probably not – I can’t think of anything currently to validate such a thought…
“I slowly opened my eyes…”
-Alive is good. :D
“I must have been using the shooty voice, because everyone immediately looked a little nervous.”
-Wait, she has a shooty voice now?? As if she needed to make ponies any MORE uncomfortable around her… xD
“Snails wants to find some unicorn mare he knew back before the war.”
“Mmhmm! The Great and Powerful Trixie!”
-Oh god. Oh god no.
“Psychoshy asked, looking over from her bed with a smirk on her face and worry in her eyes.”
-I wouldn’t think I’d say this, but ‘Aaaaaaw… Poor Psychoshy..’
“…And they haven’t just been saving them; they’ve been broadcasting them somewhere as well.”
-Well fuck. So who’s spying on Blackjack and is privy to quite a lot of happenings??
“Or… maybe she didn’t. My eyes came from her. Maybe… maybe somepony hacked her eyes and ears a long time ago.”
-Ooooh. So is it Zodiac, or Goldenblood, or another entity entirely? And where is the feed going TO??
“The Remnant have one more.”
-I’m sorry what?!
“…There was one silo that didn’t fire. The missile malfunctioned… so we had to keep the bomb safe and secure. When the Remnant came, they discovered it and took both the bomb and the zebras who maintained it.”
-OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT OH SHIT
When the day of fire came, only a dozen bombs were fired from Dawn Bay. Not hundreds, as intended.”
“Hundreds?”
-Wow. That is some serious solar-flaring orgasms of Celestia right there. O_o
“What if it’s from somepony else’s mouth?”
-Is Blackjack thinking of the same cunning plan that I’m thinking of? :D
“Darn. You figured me out. Well, except for one thing. My PipBuck? It’s a broadcaster.”
-Oh yeah… Well, it turns out her plan was better than what I was thinking of. xD
“Ahuizotl, for conspiring against the residents of Hoofington Memorial, we sentence you to exile. Your bar and its contents are to be seized and sold to fund the community.”
-BUT CARRION’S CONTRACT!!! D:
“He started to trot away as Carrion caught up, and I held up the roll of paper with my magic.”
-YES YES YES YES YES YES YES
“Yes,” Carrion replied simply. A moment later a green beam lanced through the ghoul, transforming him and everything on him into a heap of glistening green goop. “Goodbye.”
-Okay. That’s EVEN BETTER STILL. Good riddance.
“Apparently, someone else holding their contract was the point of being a griffin… and with that, they eclipsed zebras as weirdest species in the wasteland.”
-I think I know how this is going to end up…
“You just want ta feel better than the rest of us by playing the big hero. Well, ya ain’t. So if you feel like scum, congratulations. You are. And someday you’ll accept that. Then you won’t give a fuck about forgiveness.”
-Oh god no. WARNING! WARNING! MENTAL BREAKDOWN IMMINENT! …Or not.
“I looked at their union, and then Psychoshy glanced at me, her face turning scarlet as she moved atop him, seemingly unable to stop herself.”
-BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
“Psychoshy made an admirable imitation of her mother as she blushed. She didn’t stop moving, though, and really I couldn’t blame her.”
-D’aaaaaaaw/BAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
“Here. I’m giving you Carrion’s contract. He’ll keep you safe while you search.”
-I thought as much. Roughly.
“I… well… but… I…” The zebra looked around in a near panic and then hung her head. “Oh, curses.”
-Poor Xanthe…
“Shattered Hoof Ridge Correctional. That was where Tiara was last,” Silver Spoon said. “I know she probably didn’t get out, but I have to hope.” And if nothing else, it was a way to keep from going feral.”
-Oh. My. Gawd. I’d completely forgotten Diamond Tiara was there… D:
“Sweet Celestia, I couldn’t get the taste off!”
-BAHAHAHAHA!!!
“THOU INSISTED YOU NEEDED BUT ONE HOUR TO BED THE STRUMPET BLACKJACK!”
-I’m just laughing almost non-stop for this whole section. “STOP THOU CUNT THOU!”? xD
Oh wow. A chalkboard does not do Stygius’ eloquent speech justice.
“You’re a prince?!”
-Okay, so that caught me COMPLETELY off-guard…
“Psychoshy swallowed and then swooped after them. “Wait! Wait... please...” she said as she landed in front of him. “Take me with you.”
-This however, didn’t catch me unawares at all. xD
“We actually have some traders planning to go from here to Manehattan to Dise!”
-EEEEEEEE!!! Heroes reference! :D
“The old yellow buck threw his head back and laughed. “So it was you! Thought so. Blackjack, didn’t take long for folks to figger out who in the Hoof coulda done it!”
-Blackjack walked STRAIGHT into this one… :D
“Well now. I think I’d better be going. There’s a nice young aspiring caravaner here, and I was thinking of giving her some personal tips of the trade before she heads off to Baltimare.”
-Is this a slight reference/tie-in to Ilushia’s New Beginnings? I’m really not quite sure yet. xD
“…He insisted that we’d all been played, and that he was the biggest fool of them all. That something had to be done to save Equestria.”
-Well shit. This has BAD NEWS written all over it…
“So far, you’re the best candidate I’ve found.”
-So it seems that the bulk of the theorycrafting regarding EC-1101 seems accurate. So far, at least…
“I gaped at her, then at the bottle, then in the direction Keeper had gone. “But… but I only drank one glass…” “
-I love Keeper…
“I solemnly swear I won’t intentionally break my limbs on any enemy smaller than a house…”
-These limbs are getting torn to pieces when Blackjack runs into that damned tank again… xD
“Floating against the surface of the map were eight icons of light: bright orange, cyan, pink, purple, violet, yellow, green, and gold.”
-Interesting. They’re tracking the Ministry Mares. I presume gold to be Goldenblood? Who would green be, Applesnack?
“You were never supposed to kill the Legate.”
-Yup. Thought as much. If Psalm misses her target, she was meant to do so.
“The zebra colt falling instead, the bullet through his eye.”
-Oh dear. Poor Psalm…
“Ahem. Sorry to cut this short, but sometimes there’s just no reasoning with my… with Princess Celestia.”
-This must be of note… Is Eclipse working for Celestia? I’m thinking ‘yes’. Or is it maybe suggesting some form of familial tie?
“I’m going to do whatever it takes and show her and everypony that I am every bit the ruler that she was!”
-No Luna… Please no… D:
“Better a dead princess than a captured one…”
-Oh no. NO FUCKING NO. IT MAKES PERFECT SENSE BUT NOPENOPENOPENOPENOPE
“La la la la la la… not listening to Blackjack talking about things in her hiney.”
-In contrast to the previous sad inference, this is the BEST POSSIBLE THING. :D
“The creature was almost two feet taller than Rover, but it stooped over. Yellowish hide sprouting knots of scar tissue and bristly black fur covered its incredibly muscled frame.”
-Is this a hellhound? Yeah, it’s a hellhound. I get the feeling that shooting this one wouldn’t be appropriate, Blackjack.
“No! Stop, Pony! Stop!”
-Thought as much. I’m sure there’s a perfectly reasonable explanation here… Although you aren’t a very clever pony, Blackjack…
“Thought her horn was bigger.”
-Always with the small horn thing, right?
“Please fix me, Rover! Please please please please! Pleeeeeeeeeease!”
-And… back to thinking Blackjack is descended from Rarity. :D
“The pair disappeared, and I blinked, looking around the now empty ruins.”
-Again, Blackjack was ASKING for this to happen. xD
“The yellow filly’s words reached my ears, but I paid them no mind as I fled. “What’s her problem?” “
-Is it a good thing Charity doesn’t realise how much power and sway she holds over Blackjack? I think so. Celestia help Blackjack if she ever figures it out…
“And I got shot up a lot and died again, but I could tell her about that later.”
-Right now I am REALLY concerned what ‘later’ will be like… Oh Blackjack, you are in for a world of hurt.
“You... You... fucking cunt!”
-Can’t say I’m surprised. I’ve been waiting for this for a few chapters…
- Errors:
“Ramage waited a minute and then sniffed.”
-Missing the ‘p’ in Rampage.
“There’s a nice young aspiring caravaner here, and I was thinking of giving her some personal tips of the trade before she heads off to Baltimare.”
-I believe you want ‘caravaneer’ rather than ‘caravaner’?
- Questions:
Who is the entity in 'Hell'?
Who is the green figure being tracked on the board?
What do we think of Eclipse's slip-up?
Did Goldenblood really organise the attempt on Celestia's life?
EDIT: Derp. Bravo to Somber and the team as always for an excellent chapter!!
Thank you. Also, to your credit, it was your art that came to mind when Boo was frowning.WavemasterRyx wrote:Alright, after having to wait one very long day to read chapter 49, I thought it was an absolutely wonderful chapter. I'll try my best to get a proper commentary done as soon as I can.
- just one thing else to say about the chapter:
And how could I
not say it... Yay for Boo! Just as adorable as ever!
Thank you so very much Somber, Hinds, Bronode, and Snipe. *hugs all of you together*
They had superior numbers at first.Kippershy wrote:"our superior numbers"
You what? I thought it was the other way around? That ponies outnumbered zebras and that's why they turned to using mechs?
Also, thanks for spotting that error with the deck thing.

Rereading the chapter... all I can think is that I wish I was worth a damn in animation.
I'm thinking of some fantastic cinematography for visualizing the Riverside scene, in particular BJ's conversation with Keeper and then the Dealer as unexciting as it sounds. I wish I held on to some of my art school friends who were decent at it. I know so many artists and actors and writers and filmmakers but no animators. :(

Or the ESA; don't forget them! If Skylon works (and what news we have seems auspicious, as far as I know), they'll probably be one of the first big customers, and that would make them shoot up in importance if they know what they're doing (which I assume they do).Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:@Stringtheory

Yes, OBVIOUSLY they're not in real love after a couple of days. But she had to make a decision, and going with Sygius was the better choice. She probably can't come back? Well boo-freakin'-hoo, she's missing out on all that lovely wasteland. Remember, Whisper has literally nothing at this point. She recently had everything she thought she knew thrown away, including an intensely toxic relationship. She's been wandering aimlessly for some time now, tagging along with an incredibly dangerous person she has extremely mixed feelings about.Caoimhe wrote:By the same token it also weakens Whisper's character for only truly finding herself from a lover's influence and then abandoning her friends (and essentially her world she knows) to be with someone she's known only for a few days.
So: Continue wandering the wasteland with people she barely tolerates and no real goal, or immerse herself in a foreign culture with apparently a nice guy who seems to genuinely like her? It's hardly a decision at all.
Maybe the Stygius thing works out and maybe it doesn't. Sounds like they need some new blood down there one way or the other, and maybe contact with one surface-dweller will encourage them to make contact again.
Either way, it'll be an adventure.

Hmm, I do believe I may be too hard on the whole situation. I'm going to have to reread everything from when she joins up with the rest of the heroes to now to really appreciate it. I think I negated how vicious everything with Sanguine was. After all, in the Wasteland life changing events occur at the drop of a hat.
