Damn, Republic Commando is an under-rated gem. Gameplay's not bad, your squad's competent for the most part, awesome squad chatter, and the main action theme hits all my music fetishes.
Best quote from squad chatter: 'Boss, hold in your guts while I rip out theirs'- Permanent hard boiled badass, 07, nickname: Sev.

^ Oh good grief, yes. Republic Commando is a game that I remember well, and would definitely recommend to any Star Wars fan who hasn't played it. Easily one of the best video games of the franchise out there. I'm still holding to hope that a sequel gets made one day, though right now I'm just praying that EA doesn't fuck up Battlefront 3.

You and me both on hoping that DICE doesn't fuck up Battlefront 3 (at the very worst it'll just be a re-skin of Battlefield...I hope). Also I love Star Wars when there's no Force users running around turning the entire story/premise into a boring good vs. evil setup.Epsilon wrote:^ Oh good grief, yes. I know I keep bitching about it, but to be honest Pandemic (The guys who made star wars battlefront I and II) would have probably fucked it up themselves. They made LOTR conquest which if you've played it is a clone of battlefront only with a lot less classes all of which are copy and pasted to the opposing faction.
There did seem to be more heroes to play as, but you almost always get instantly killed by a rogue so you might as well play anyone else.

Aye. I'd kill to see RepCom get a sequel or even just recognition of its existence from whatever-the-hell-replaced-LucasArts, which is more than the game's had in six years.

I still wonder what happened to Sev...
Scorch: Was it Red-Green-Red or Red-Green-Green...
Sev: And he is supposed to be our demolition expert?

I know Traviss was going to address his fate in the books, but then LucasArts vetoed it in the remote possibility that they might make a RepCom sequel. And then they never did.

On another note, I, unlike swick, have yet to go cold-turkey on my Skyrim addiction. My new character is a Dunmer of House Hlaalu whose family fled Morrowind after anti-Empire sentiment turned against them--especially from the Ashlanders. Having made their way to Skyrim by way of Solstheim, their daughter (the PC) is now an Empire-loathing, "True Nord" Dunmer with a fondness for heavy armor and axes and little taste for fancy magics--she's currently fulfilling her lifelong dream of joining the Companions.
That's something that, say, Elder Scrolls and New Vegas have over the more 'limited' games like, say, Dragon Age--your background is multiple-choice and fixed, with no room for unorthodox or subversive characters.

Aye, though at the same time, there's less ability to integrate that backstory into the in-game narrative. So it's sort of a tradeoff in that playing as an elf or Qunari in DA really does change the way the world interacts with you (and it can be subtle things, like when I noticed that elvish dialogue was translated in the subtitles), while for much of Skyrim for me, race choice seemed more like a passive bonus or starting abilities than anything else. I think that's one of the limitations of RPG's as they stand now is just that it's really hard to implement fully integrated character creation when there isn't a GM actively tailoring the story and NPC's.Frost wrote:On another note, I, unlike swick, have yet to go cold-turkey on my Skyrim addiction. That's one reason I'm always on the lookout anyway for an actual P&P RPG group to join--The graphics aren't the best, sure, but that's where you can actually be creative, in both story and gameplay

I'm doing sort of P&P RPG with some friends over voice chat.
I'd recommend for that site roll20.com Really useful and you can store your character sheet there.

I have tested Virtual Reality Porn, and it is the stuff of the future.
On Android phones, there's an App called "VR Player". Used in cunjuction with a specially designed headmount like this one, this open whole new horizon of getting farther and farther away from God's reach.

Ava's face in the second-to-last panel is absolutely priceless.

Just finished Republic Commando, and I only have one complaint: what the fuck was that ending? Felt like there should have been 1-2 more missions even on Kashyyyk... Sigh, the devs probably ran out of budget pimping out the missions they did make. Still some of best linear FPS-ing I've played, even when not adjusted for age.
Still awesome while it lasted.

Aye. LucasArts intentionally left it hanging as sequel bait, blocked Traviss from resolving it at all in the book series, and then promptly abandoned everything related to the series.

But seriously that was some of the best FPS-ing I played, I especially liked the attention to detail like how gore and bullet impacts obstructed your vision and had to be cleaned off by your visor periodically. And the knuckle blade is now going into every set of sci-fi power armor I come up with from now on.

It helps that the squad AI is still one of the most competent I've ever encountered in an FPS. Your squad was smart, helpful, and effective. And fucking badass.
Damn, now I'm getting all nostalgic. I need to hunt down my old RepCom disc and make a rip of it so that I can actually play it again.

Yeah, it's pretty sad. Can't imagine going in for something routine and then suddenly dying from it.

Yep, I realized soon enough that letting them finish off a roomful of enemies helped us survive rather then immediately calling for a revive.Scienza wrote:It helps that the squad AI is still one of the most competent I've ever encountered in an FPS. It's $10 on GOG or Steam if you can't find your disk or it doesn't work.

I was just having a dream this night of learning that a web-artist I like died.
Strangely... relieved... to learn as I wake up that she wasn't the one to die.
Can't really comment on the deceased, as I never followed Rooster Teeth. A damn shame dying that young, though.

Apparently, in the has-been Garena region, being an LGBT woman makes you a better League of Legends player. So much better that teams in the new woman's league are only allowed one. And not one of each, either. It's not clear whether fielding a homosexual transgender woman counts as double-dipping.
