Current diversity metagame has Trans as the trump card, after all, so I think we know who'd win the court of public opinion.

DA: Keep? More like "Keep this idea around for every RPG ever, amirite?"
F'real, though, this is probably one of whoever-had-this-idea's best ideas. Perhaps not this exact setup (perhaps just going off of options at the beginning of each game) but....well, ME3 would have a lot more replay value (considering its wide array of class options and whatnots) if you didn't have to play all three to be able to play without the world-state being "fucked as shit"
It's sort of philosophical, when you think about it.
You, The Father, shape the world for the coming of Your Son the PC.
Or the world is of infinite possibility, and by your presence you carve away what may be from what is like a careless logger stripping the branches from a tree.
Men and women, children and parents and Gods and Armies reduced to mere pastel images, but a mouse-click from oblivion. And your avatar is sent forth, surveying the land as it yet shakes from the judgement your hand has passed upon it. And this incarnation's only voice, the only verdict the huddled and cowering masses of the judged shall ever receive, is the blade, or spell, or word of the immortal, resurrecting thing that walks among them like a lion among wolves; like a dragon among men. A god among mortals.
So, yeah. It's a nifty little feature.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I wrote:Essentially, a reconstruction/justification of the anime/fantasy classic of skimpily-clad women fighting giant monsters with ridiculous, massive weapons. In essence, it's about professional dragonslayers (though they can deal with other monsters as well). They forgo armor, as the heaviest armor is pretty much tinfoil to a dragon or giant, in favor of mobility and staying cool while fire is being breathed at you--some go so far as to go shirtless or partly so. This has the added benefit of making it easier to climb or scale the mountains and valleys that dragons, giants, and other beasts call home--and, for that purpose, slayers are likely to have both rope and climbing gear (such as a pair of picks and specialized footwear) on hand--the paired climbing axes/picks also come in handy for dealing with bandits and other mundane threats, as their weapons--which can range from large, unique swords to customized polearms--are largely specialized towards dealing with massive, armored, or otherwise unusual foes and are of little use in prolonged conflict against ordinary men.
- To elaborate on this idea:
The regions plagued by dragons (in this hypothetical world) are mountainous areas in fairly temperate or torrid climates (which also makes the elements less of an issue for a slayer's choice of dress) but these regions are fairly mineral-poor. The local populace, therefore, has taken an approach to magical beasts such as dragons much like the Native Americans' approach to Buffalo--though other, more mundane animals are often harvested, and, naturally, farming is done where terrain permits, the hunting of dragons is both the most dangerous, and most prestigious livelihood. Slayers move through the land mostly un-accosted by quarrelling warbands, bandits, and Questioners (Inquisitors from the Northern Empire to whom the land is a feifdom, known for picking up lone travellers for suspicion of being spies) alike--because little could be gained from killing a slayer that makes having dragons about worth it.
After the dragon is killed, the slayer removes the stony, crystalline heart from the beast for several reasons--foremost is that it is a nearly counterfeit-proof proof of death to whatever warlord that placed the bounty, or whatever businessman commissioned it (more on that in a moment) The tongue or eyes can be faked far more easily, and the whole head is certainly far too troublesome to be carried miles over the mountains. The second is that the heart of a dragon has several unique and highly valuable properties when it comes to shamanistic magic--not widely practiced, especially outside of the Southern Mountains, but it has its uses; especially when magical creatures and plants are concerned.
After the slayer has delivered the heart, the warlord (usually, though the primary goal of hiring the slayer is usually to simply be rid of the dragon) or entrepreneur (certainly, as this is the true purpose of ordering the kill) will send a crew of harvesters to where the corpse lays. Due to the unique properties of dragonflesh, they have time to spare--dragons' corpses take years to fully decay--but to dally risks another crew swooping in and harvesting the dragon in turn. The bones, most obviously, can be made into virtually anything one could make out of steel--indeed, the bones are stronger and lighter than steel and require specialized tools and skilled smiths to work with. The layered scales, though already tougher than an elephant's hide and more than enough to turn away anything short of a heavy Scorpion or light Ballista bolt, can be stretched, dried, and treated to make sheets of material--or maille armor-- tougher than iron and light as wool. The membranes of the wings can be used in fine clothing and utilitarian cloaks and clothes alike--with a nice touch of being waterproof, surprisingly comfortable and, of course, extremely resistant to fire.
The meat of dragons, unfortunately, due to dragonflesh's aforementioned unique semi-mineral properties, is inedible. The bone marrow, though, is quite useful for fire-based shamanist magic.
What most people are unaware of is the utility of Dragon Bows--by replacing the usual ram's horn materials with the spines, claws, or horns of a dragon in a composite bow and a bit of the dragon's dried sinew as a string, one has a light, handy shortbow with the power of a long, recurved bow--and the string, handily, won't become stretched or weakened in exposure to moisture or other harsh conditions.
As for the dragon-slaying weapons themselves, they, ironically, tend to be made of dragonbone. They are made stronger than the bones they're trying to pierce or break via magic runes carved into their faces, which turn the heat and fire that surround dragons into energy that reinforces the weapons against damage. Such is the true (and only) use of runic magic, which is the de facto school of magic for most of the Empire. The transfer of energy (and occasionally matter) to other sources and forms. It can take the form of, as mentioned, turning heat into material strength (or kinetic energy) or simply redirecting and channeling kinetic energy in a different direction--such as the "wells" that turn foot-traffic over a busy rune-carved road into energy that brings water up from aquifers. Naturally, there are many military applications for this magic as well, but most mages focus on the potential to improve lives with their work, and "steel" mages, focusing on warfare, are something like black sheep in magi circles.
Yeah, this sorta shit all pops into my head over the course of hours, but god forbid I can actually put a storyline together.

- Birdman!:
- Watched the film "Birdman" with my grandmother and sister today, 'cos gram-gram's a huge film buff. It's excellent; you lot would like it, I think. Lot of people making themselves and one another miserable in the quest for fame, art, glory, transformation, whatever. Great acting, great writing, superb camerawork, makes fun of Raymond Carver (who deserves to be made fun of, even though he's fantastic), and it's up for a bunch of Oscars. It's funny, but it's not really a comedy. Oh, and it's got Edward Norton naked in it (with strategic covering, though a later scene leaves little to the imagination) so if that floats your boat, it's totally in there. Only real con is the caveat that if you can't stand magical realism or plays, this isn't a film you'll like.
@Frost
I've always found that the best way to turn worldbuilding into story is to just start writing a short story with the plan being to show a process of the world (hunting a dragon, maybe, or a harvesting a dead one) with a twist that creates suspense (the dragon's got a cult, say, or the harvesters find they have rivals after the same corpse). Fill it up with an interesting cast of characters you enjoy writing, set it in a place you like to describe, and strike while the iron is hot.

That's some pretty solid advice, Cobalt. Hell, I gotta adjust my sleep schedule to the night shift anyway, and DA: I's taking about a goddamn year to download, so I might as well give it a little ol' whirl while the brain-juices are still splooged everywhere.

- To my cat, companion of fourteen years, who was put to rest yesterday:
There are no real words which can quite convey what I feel about losing you.
You've been a constant presence at my side for much of my life, and your calm purring was a thing I came to take for granted.
For several years now, I knew the end was coming, and had resolved myself to the idea that everytime I left the house could be our last goodbye.
Even though I knew such a thing was coming, it is always a somber day when you need to part with a loved one.
For you, my cat, old friend, I say farewell.

Huh, I wonder if the rules of Kickstarter allow you to create a kickstarter to fund a specific tier reward for another kickstarter. You might be able to put your talents as shipmistress to use.

You know what bugs me?
You got Fighters' guilds, Mages' guilds, smithing guilds in some works... Hell, you got guilds for shady shit like monster/cultist hunting and straight-up illegal shit like thieving and assassination.
Fuck all that noise. I wanna join the Bandit's Guild. I wanna step out onto the backroads, my fellow counter-adventurers by my side as we kindly let our foes that coming here is a thing that they should never have done. You remember the part where you fall down and bleed to death? Damn right you do. Because it's this part. Right now.
Also, I want a harem anime or dating sim focusing on adorable Daedra girls in Oblivion High. From the feisty tsundere Dremora to the cheerful moe Winged Twilights, you'll meet the immortal, Eldritch monster of your dreams.

By the way, I've a question for Harmony and Frost, if you don't mind. I assumed that you must have thought about the concept of gender a lot before coming to your recent conclusions and thus may have some insight on it. Would you say that my current understanding of it as a set of hardware drivers is accurate? If not, what do you think gender is?
