If I remember correctly, due to Destiny's more MMO-like format, what they're planning on is a series of expansions updating and improving the game. It's the same as how today's WoW looks nothing like it did in 2004.

A favorite tactic I developed in Skyrim, especially at lower levels, was luring two groups of high-level enemies together, so I could loot the powerful gear and, if necessary, finish off the weakened survivors.
In Morrowind, I was just attacked by a Morag Tong assassin in the wilds, with myself badly outclassed at level 1. Naturally, I made straightaway to the nearest Imperial Fort, having just started the game and being in reasonably good favor with the Empire. The guards....do nothing. Even as the knife-wielding assassin physically pushes past them to get at me.
Either the bribes are fucking real, or I can take back everything I've ever said about Skyrim's AI.

Yeah, with you on that one, from what I've seen - not every individual one of 'em is super great, but they did strike me as somewhat singular, at least so far. I do think their society isn't meant to be idealized, though, at least not completely; some aspects (matrifocal stuff, esp.) were drawn from really, really old European civilization IIRC. Hopefully we'll see, eventually.Mister Frost wrote:My only complaint, really, is with the Adem--they're inarguably right, even when they're factually wrong, and they're super-great fighters without equal--one would think there's a nation or clan out there that at least rivals them, but it's yet to be seen. Overall, they struck me as something that was trying really, really hard to be an ideal and interesting society and fell just short of the mark.
100% with you on the meta story-within-a-story stuff, that was exceptionally done.

And I've managed to resolve it with my genius strategy of fumbling through the menus and realizing that I had racial powers and shit. Specifically, the Incestral Sanctuary or whatever thing that pretty much means I'm invincible at lower levels.
Turns out the motherfucker's wearing Dark Brotherhood armor (which I now have for an absurdly powerful low-level bonus, considering long-blade and light armor are my mainstays (intent is to develop into a fuckin' ninja)) so I'm guessing he's a member of the Thieves Guild. Which I semi-accidentally and absolutely recklessly just joined. Minutes after joining the Imperial Cult. I'm thinking I'll bring the two together, so we can all steal stuff for Dragon Jesus. The church needs its muscle, and the Legion doesn't count.
Basically, pay your tithes or we'll take your kneecaps.
All in all, I get the impression that I'm heading down the short road to completely train-wrecking this game, with a gimped-ass character in a tangled mess of demanding organizations, who lack the basic intelligence to be turned against each other. And I fucking love it.

I really miss Morrowind. Aside from the initial combat. Because fuck that. The Thieves Guild has some good quests in it, and remember to check the crates around Balmora. Found a longsword in one of the crates once that lasted me for a good long while.

@swicked
Well, if you do, consider using SPERG and/or Apocalypse Magic - the former revitalizes the perks system, and the latter adds some flavor to spellcasting, especially early level ones, so that you're not just spamming AoE fire damage spell ad nauseum. Adds new spells that have new more interesting effects than just "damage to health" and "damage to health AND stamina". I like Enhanced Blood Textures, too, mostly for the blood pooling on dead NPCs.

I like Morrowind's skill and attribute system, I must say. It's a good deal more complex, but it lets one specialize and optimize more, and the attributes allow crossover between different competencies.

More half-assed sequels?
Half assed? Bungie? Okay, I'll be the first to admit I don't like everything about Destiny. The worst thing about this game in my opinion is if you wanna read the lore you have to go to their site, log in, and read the grimoire cards. They really should be in the game. Load times can be bad too, but as someone who played Dead Rising 2 they really don't bother me.
I also will admit I don't like Reach's story. I have no idea where these Spartan IIIs came from, the only Spartan IIIs I know of that survived their suicide missions were Tom and Lucy, And ONI didn't really seem to know what to do with them, they simply sent them back to Onyx. Lucy I get at least, she was broken afterwards, but if their picking surviving spartan IIIs and making teams out of them why would they send Tom back?
That being said I don't think any of their sequels were half-assed, they are at the very least of technical quality of the previous in fact I think they're better. Gameplay never got worse in my opinion and thats the main thing.

Story vs gameplay seems to be a popular trend
I tend play games for the story, which is why I can play through the same game multiple times and enjoy it every time regardless of gameplay

I tend to be the other way around in that if the gameplay's not enjoyable I won't really play the game more than once (ex. Bastion vs. Transistor).Vinylshadow wrote:Story vs gameplay seems to be a popular trend

What makes you think I'm trying?
Tried out Tropico 3 and Receiver from Humble Bundle
It's a good thing they were free because I wouldn't waste money on 'em
Not my kind of game, unfortunately - although I do like the idea behind Receiver (hold one key, tap this, do that etc - all to reload a handgun)
I'm sure it had actual gameplay as in shooting other people, but it lagged whenever I tried to move

I really enjoyed Bastion's gameplay and story (and art style and soundtrack...), while Transistor while the story was good (if a bit confusing), the gameplay never really got very fun for me.Harmony Ltd. wrote:What about these two games?stringtheory wrote:I tend to be the other way around in that if the gameplay's not enjoyable I won't really play the game more than once (ex. You know, they do label games with ratings. Just because it's on Nintendo doesn't mean it's child-friendly (though they've usually been the strictest over this sort of thing). It's no different than the millions of other ways that minors can access porn in this connected age.Kattlarv wrote:*snip*

Basically, if you're a parent and you buy your child a game that openly "promises nudity and sex" (which, by the way, the game doesn't actually seem to. It's disturbing sexualization of girls of a questionable age, but that's a different issue with Japan), that's your problem, not the devs'. It might not be the most tasteful game, but it's the parents' job to monitor the content that their children access.
