@Being a good person

I try my best to be a good person for a few reasons, but the greatest one is because I genuinely want to be one. I care for others, even strangers. I want to make things better for other people. There are other reasons. One of which is that, if I don't help someone when they need it, the guilt will eat away at my mind. I can be doing anything, no matter how mentally intensive, and the guilt will still be with me. I also feel physical pain when someone is injured. Another reason is that I always feel as if I'm trying to make up for some great, unknown sin, but nothing I do seems good enough to wipe the slate clean.

@Iron: well, it's far from being the only reason for me, and there's also a part of what you said about feeling guilty when not helping someone I could have helped; but on the other hand I also have learned that there are a lot of people out there who do not understand the value of kindness when it is offered to them and take it for granted.

Thus my new signature, and also why I tend to be far more helpful and smiling to complete strangers in the streets and otherwise, than to people I'm forced to be with all day and all night long.

@Swicked: Well, maybe guilt is a bit strong, as I'm closer to you than of Iron apparently. But the thing is that the feeling generally last long enough that I end up seeing that me not helping, in one way or another, actually contradicts my principles.

And as I kind of run on the stuff, this makes me uncomfortable, and generally pushes toward wanting to do better next time.


One exception, though: I never give money to beggars, with a few exceptions.

I disagree, if you work your ass off at a job I'd definitely say you'd deserve your pay at the end of the week.

Plus, "Living" and "dead" are dichotomy. A person might be on their deathbed, breathing their last, but while they're still alive they're no more dead than a newborn.

Such is the result of blindly basing one's life philosophy off a comedian, I suppose.
