I blazed through the "Saga" comics recently. Quite good thus far. You have to be willing to accept some pretty strange stuff and just roll with it initially, but I love that style of worldbuilding. They're... sci-fi/fantasy/space opera/punk.

My guess is that viewers saw how bold Gilda was, then looked at Germany's big black eagle symbol, got some ideas, and then BAM. Bird Germans.

That's just what came to mind, anyway. I do kinda think griffins when I see Germany's symbol.

Dragons seem to be feral to a great extent. Besides the migration, they seem to mostly live isolated lives over massive hoards of gems.

Changlings have the most interesting social structure that we've seen so far, a mix of an insect hive and a traditional monarchy.

And then there's the possibility that Chrys doesn't actually rule over all changelings, which leads to all those fics where there are different hives that suffer for what that moronic queen decided to do. Also don't know how the Diamond Dog society works, or anything about outer Equestria, i.e. pony tribes that appear, such as in the Daring Doo episode.

Ponies - Earth, Pegasi, Unicorn, Bat, and Crystal
Buffalo
Diamond Dogs
Zebra
Griffons
Dragons
Changelings

And this is why I like Tolkien for his world building. So much potential info missing. I hope the show eventually covers this, even if I sometimes don't like it (lack of Pinklestia in the flashbacks)

Minotaurs, goats, breezies, Saddle-arabians, Alicorns, Steel ponies (Their existence isn't technically canon, but they're what Sombra is supposed to be)

Well the breezies can be forgiven since they're a brand new addition. And pretty sure SK was just talking about the show and not anything in fanfics.

But yeah, the Minotaurs, goats should be included. Obviously the Saddle-arabians fall under ponies even though their design was more like actual horses.

There's also Cows, who are sapient but still act like cattle, as well as Donkeys and Mules.
