I feel the need for a micro rant.

A while ago I was watching Evangelion. I'm pretty sure I haven't finished it yet. But I'm having a hard time dealing with all the shit the main character gets for being afraid. Seriously, he's a kid in his early teens and the fucking adults give him grief if he's afraid to fight the nigh indestructible heralds of the apocalypse. On more than one occasion he's about to leave and the fucking adults guilt trip him back into the line if fire.

If I was in his place when they asked him to pilot a giant robot I would have been all like 'Peace out fuckers'. The only reason I'd consider staying is because piloting a giant robot would be fucking awesome.

That's the thing Tytan, Shinji is suppose to be how any kid thrust into that situation should act, and that's why people hate him. There's probably books worth of analisis over how Shinji was seen as an attack on the typical anime fandom and those who watch it as wish fulfillment. Because Shinji is "scared and pathetic" thus anybody who watches anime and puts themselves in the place of the protagonist would be pathetic.

Despite all that, no matter which ending you go with, Shinji get's the last laugh, hi-jacking everybody's plans with the help of Rei. Yeah there are times I wish Shinji was more like other kid giant robot pilots, but he's probably one of the braver ones since he has to overcome his fear, lack of self confidence, the fact he literally holds the fate of the world in his hands every time he gets in the cockpit as oppose to "FUCK YEAH I ROCK! DESTROY EVERYTHING!"

My qualm isn't that he doesn't act like a typical anime kid, it's that he's supposed to be realistic and does such unrealistic things. I mean sure, I can see why he'd keep doing what he's doing because he feels some sort of responsibility because every adult and his fellow copilots shove the responsibility down his throat with guilt trips and verbal abuse, but they're putting him in a very VERY life threatening situation. The most we get out of Shinji is a 'I don't wanna' before he immediately bends over and takes it because they guilt trip him with a pretty girl covered in casts, and that one time when he tries to run away only to feel extra guilty and comes back again.

It makes sense when you read it like that, but it doesn't make sense when you combine it with the fact that despite his cowardice he is (almost) the most unrestrained and reckless fighter of the bunch. This is most likely explained by him being the greenest pilot, but it doesn't jive with his personality.

If I had to change one thing about Shinji I'd make him less of a doormat. Someone who resists more, but still realizes that he has responsibilities.

(New episode) ... eh, feel honestly disappointed on the fandom overall for this. One person did some quite unexpected, neat looking fanart, but still not a single one picked up on ANY of the blatantly notable things from last weeks episode. Like... really? So they leap at any convoluted, minimal part they have to drag to make it work, but when they are delivered to their face, they ignored it because it's not a stereotype or bland norm? Blah! Ah well, the episode as a whole was kinda watch-able at least.

You can't be disappointed when you get what you expect.

Yes I can... basically, see it like if you put some people in a room, gave them peanut butter, a bag of sandwiches and marmalade. Now, what'd you expect these people do with this? (and yes, this is another metaphor/comparison) Like, they literally have EVERYTHING served to their face. What do they do? Several rush up, knock the jars aside, pee on the bread, rip out their testicles, put it between two slices and stands on the table, holding them out of reach from the others going "durr! We made PEE-NUT and jelly? sandwiches!" like... they have ALL the material there... why do they go out of their way, just to make a badly misplaced cock joke in order to pander to the norm? I mean, Jeebus, even CSI miami has more classy puns. They're making Crusty or whomever seem fresh and original...

... honestly reminded of that time the Nostalgia Critic racked on that... family something... something... basically it was just a "retard stereotype" of "generic stupid x person laughing at poop jokes". Just like, "oh no, we can't do anything too clever, it'd hurt their diminutive brains!"

I think a more appropriate comparison would be giving someone a set of Legos every week.

If they follow the instructions and return a perfectly made model then they've done what most would expect.

If they return a model with half the pieces missing or assembled incorrectly then they haven't lived up to general expectations.

If they built something more impressive than the instructions then they've exceeded expectations.

The problem isn't MLP or the animators, it's Kattlarv. They put out a decent product fairly consistently (Although not always to everyone's general satisfaction). She expects them to assemble something more impressive every single time because they've done it before. Your expectations are above what they can reasonably deliver, and the only way they could meet them is if they were pandering specifically to you. Which would probably make for a less appealing product for the general viewer.
