It isn't important that you ARE the biggest, fastest, etc. It's only important to believe you are. If you look at your life proud with the fact that you think of yourself as the villain, getting murdered isn't so bad. In that instant before you bleed to death because you confronted someone, you can smile knowing you knew this was going to happen, because you're clearly the bad guy - and the bad guy always loses. This wasn't your story, but you were a damn important part of it.swicked wrote:Eh, not so much, to me.Tytan wrote:Not necessarily, but I'm inspired by the idea of being bigger and badder than the threats around you.swicked wrote:Oh? Do you see yourself as evil? Or, otherwise, where is that from?Tytan wrote:I find this oddly inspiring.

It's far too arrogant to assume you'll always be able to bring more to the fight/conflict/whatever than any of those you might end up against.
There's always someone bigger, faster, smarter, more cruel, less restrained... or simply with more friends to back them up.
"Haha, Asshole! You may have killed me, but little do you know that I'm actually Andreas, Lord of the Beavers! Soon my beaver brethren will seek revenge upon this world, and make the Lore of this game significantly more interesting!"
And then you die, your killer is confused, and the person playing your game complains to the developers that this guy he killed in Grand Theft Auto broke the fourth wall.

Never thought I'd see Nickleback quoted here.
Never quite fully understood the hate towards them, but music is one of those things I've just decided that "I don't get it, but I like this song so whatever."

I like that song in particular. It's easy to sing to.

Note to self: Never play kerbal space program's career mode again. The science tree is nowhere near as fun as making a nuclear engine deep space manned spacecraft with artificial gravity. No offense people that play career mode, it's just not as fun.

Could use some math help, what's the (dy/dx) of x+xy+2y^2=6?
The way I'm doing it right now gets rid of all the x's through (d/dx) which doesn't seem to make sense. I'm trying to find the equation for the slope of any point on the curve.

What I found helpful is using x' and y' instead is (d/dx) and whatever. Makes it easier to wrap your head around. When doing implicit differentiation like this, you want to us the chain rule, with x going to x', and same for y. In this instance, it would become x'+(x'y+xy')+2(2yy')=0.stringtheory wrote:Could use some math help, what's the (dy/dx) of x+xy+2y^2=6?

The next step is to move everything that doesn't have y' in it to the other side of the equation: xy'+4yy'=-x-x'y
Then, you factor out y': y'(x+4y)=-(x+x'y)
Then divide to isolate y': y'= -(x+x'y)/(x+4y)
That help?

YES! That was exactly the help I was looking for! The only question I have is what do I do with the x' when plugging in numbers?Aonee wrote:What I found helpful is using x' and y' instead is (d/dx) and whatever. Been playing Enemy Within. The Gene lab and Mec lab only take 10 days to build each, cost the same thing for both. But Gene mods take 10 days, much like Psi-on testing, while Mec only took 3. Unless it was because I went with two gene upgrades at once.
Anyways, my Japanese sniper can leap tall buildings in a single bound and gets so many aim bonuses between his training, equipment, and fancy new eyes that as long as he has line of sight and if I had beam weapons by now, he could kill everything.
As for my Mec... I made Cyborg. As in, the character from the DC comics. I picked a soldier at random, going "If anybody was going to willingly replace their limbs with robotic parts, the American would." And it turns out he was one of my black guys. And he sounds so upbeat as he fires his minigun and punches aliens in the face with a rocket fist.

@Katarn
Noooo =P not usually anyway. But I normally don't have to wake up until like 12 on Wednesdays, which is a situation I'm most amenable to.
Also, read the Spike micro series comic thing. It's one of the better micros that wasn't made by the team that does the main series, I thought. Reasonably witty.

@Moody: I was watching Vergil play XCOM on his livestream yesterday. It was interesting. The game decided to make all his team members women except for one, one of the heavies was a Scotswoman codenamed "Mama Bear", he had a glitch for a while where he had his sniper switch to pistol, but she was still holding the sniper rifle, so she was doing pistol damage but wielding the sniper rifle like a pistol, and his support was the worst shot in existence.
Also he game one of the heavies a power suit upgrade and colored it like Iron Man.

@Robo
Sounds about right haha. Had a Heavy witha 87% chance to hit, less than 3 meters away, and miss.
Also had the same weapon glitch with the sniper pistolI loved it.

The GOG sale going on right now is kinda awkward. Sometimes there's a really good game on sale and it goes super fast. Sometimes there's a really bad game that nobody's ever heard of on sale (like Myspace in Space or whatever... seriously, social networking games? Really? I mean maybe if you had American Psycho: The Game it'd work from an artistic standpoint) and it takes forever to pass by.

More Enemy Within stuff.
I noticed they haven't fixed what I call "dynamic pathing".
"Hmmm, I'll move this trooper around the corner, hugging the wall to get behind that box." *click*
"Yes Commander! I shall climb up this pipe to get to the roof, run all of two steps while on the roof, and then drop down beside this box!"
*facepalms, then slams head against desk as the same thing happens with a different soldier.*
"Okay, I moved this guy next to the door no problem. Now to open the door silently." *everything goes smoothly* "No body in sight, time to send them in." *watches as they ignore the door they just open to jump through a window.*
