Just got back from Riddick, and.....well, the action was decent, but I've got to say that the writing was horseshit. She has a nude scene (like all but one of the handful of women to appear in the movie, and that one was one of the mercs' sex slave) but, despite her informed orientation, she was heavily implied to be into Riddick in the end. And one of the times she beats the fuck out of the dude is the attempted rape scene, because of course there's an attempted rape scene. Then, virtually every other character's interactions with her boil down to clumsy and off-putting sexual advances and harassment. And, as mentioned, she wears what appears to be a tee shirt and what can only be described as a "tactical corset" while everyone else wears punky armor or professional-looking body armor

It's not like the Riddick-verse is a sexist place where women in power is a rare thing, either. No one harassed the Captain in Pitch Black, and Jack in Chronicles was in the triple-max prison along with all the other (male) prisoners.

The thing about the Riddick movies is that maybe other then Vin himself, I don't think anybody knows what they're suppose to be. I mean, the first one was about a group of shipwrecked survivors trying to get off the planet, of which Riddick was there to up the tension in the first half , cause he was a super badass killing machine who had gotten free, and be the anti-hero during the last half , being the main one to pull the sled with the batteries on it, tempting the captain to just leave the others behind when she made it to the ship alone, helping her save the others when she jumped on him and said that they WAS going to go back.

I can't remember how well it did, but it generated enough buzz, mainly of "Man, Riddick was awesome!" that Hollywood went "Hmmm, maybe we can turn this into a franchise and milk the everloving hell out of it! Get Vin back and let's make some cash!" So they did but he went "Sure. But we do things my way."

So he started a video game company to created a prequel, commissioned an animated interquel, and started working on the sequel. Turns out Vin is a D&D nerd so the gritty space movie turned into a space fantasy movie with elemental, different versions of humans, and an entire army of half dead warriors.

Cool video / idea. Too bad it's probably not going to stick. One of the giants, probably Samsung, or Nokia if Microsoft is intelligent, would have to take the concept into their own hands and make it popular for it to stick. But you're not likely to see the various manufacturers today to agree on a common platform like that. That's simply not going to happen. No way in hell.

The only reason why they would do that is if there was the European Union (or hell, the US, but I doubt it) behind nudging them with carrots and sticks enough for them to start agreeing on something. But even then they would probably continue to give a preferential treatment to their own phones. That's just how the market works - at least in the execs' minds.

Alternatively, maybe the base plate is just a single data bus, with its own controlling chipset, working kind of like a USB (Universal Serial Bus) ?

But to be honest, if that's the case, the technical constraint of making all these data seamlessly transit in what is basically one single pair of cables (electrically speaking), at a high enough frequency that there isn't any risk of "traffic jam".... Yeah, that would be quite a feat in itself. And that would just create a new Arm's Race to know which manufacturer would build the BEST(tm) base plate able to fit the most gizmos.
