Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
Anyone got any tips on playing the Cromwell? I just can't get a grip with the thing. There's got to be some middle ground. If I sit back, I get nothing. If I go forward, I sometimes get a couple spots and damage done, but I often die quickly. I'm getting really damn frustrated. Not mo mention my winrate in the thing is plummeting because even if I do what I can, my team NEVER can hold it together.
In other news, 2nd class mastery on Chi-Nu Kai, Ace mastery on AMX 12t (finally), and I somehow got 3rd class master on my Excelsior.

I haven't played the Cromwell in a while, but I remember that it was a great second line tank and sniper while also being not terrible at brawling. It doesn't have a mantlet, which makes it play differently than most mediums at the tier as going hull down doesn't get you much given the already low silhouette. It's top gun can penetrate almost everything at tier 6 with reliability with frontal hull shots and even some of the turrets.
I suggest either using it to engage tanks that others already are, sniping, supporting higher-tiered tanks, or to scout an undermanned approach, since it can maneuver around the map easily.

I struggled quite badly in my Cromwell- I can't handle fast tanks, its' speed got me into trouble mroe times than it got me out of it. Of course, if you can handle it well the tank is superb- I scored my highest number of kills ever with it which involved running from one end of the map to the other and back again (and bouncing a truly miraculous number of almost certain killshots).
I personally prefer the Comet, which is still speedy but not so much that it's dangerous. Also the relatively tough turret front and great gun depression is excellent training for the Centurion 6th sense really helps it though.
I got my mastery badge on the Type-T34 today. I actually lost the game but because I got Top gun (barely missed out on Radley-Walters') and defender the courageous resistance bonus made it a pretty good score. If it were doubled I would have been really happy but if the team had won I would have been unlikely to get as much damage and kills in anyway.
Also, I just had a game where I got put into a tier 6 game with my Type where one of the enemy Cromwells said 'Hold onto your butts'. I can only assume he had XVM stat working because we went onto lose 14:1 where more than two thirds of the team (myself incuded), did no damage. It didn't help that the matchup for them were two platooned Cromwells and two platooned KV1s vs random tier 6's on my team.
It was Campinova, where the enemy had the passive scout bushes and a lot of marder threes, one of the best passive scouts there are. Also, looking at the stats of the players, our best player was a 53% marder 3 followed by me, a 50% Type.
the enemy team had ONE player with a wr less than 50%. Both enemy platoons had 55-60% players in.
I tried to get to the hill but got beaten to it by two cromwells and a hellcat, so I got one shot off before being instantly blown up.

RAAAAAAAAAAAGE
I easily got my 24 kills today
now I need to survive two games. Only two
to get my 250K credits.
But I need to go to bed soon.
And this is the 5th or 6th game where I die and loose in a row

Re: Royal Equestrian Armored Division
welp, fuck it.
fuck this shit ten ways to sunday.
Looks like I wont get the ARL 44 until christmas.
Only 8500 Xp and 320K credit to go.
And with a crew at 95% training on the BDR, things are going to be interesting soon.
I was thinking of starting cash with 6th sense on the commander, and putting repair on everyone else. Thoughts ?

Personally I go mentor or repairs on the commander and repairs on everyone else, or maybe snap shot and smooth ride on the gunner/driver.
I then switch repairs/mentor for Sixth sense once the commander reaches 100%, but the cost to retain his main commanding skill is a small amount of gold.
I found the Maus was a surprisingly good vehicle to get the kills and survives in if you have a decent platoon mate.
Today was a day of funny kills actually, first Science has a Centurion charging is waffentrager E100 and he runs out of ammo when the cent is on low health coming down a hill, so Science moved a bit and managed to catch the centurion on the side as he ran past with his tracks, killing him with ram damage.
Then multiple enemies, including an IS8 and IS7 accidentally ram my Maus and blow up while I'm happy I don't have to waste a shot on low health stuff.
After all it's failings, the Maus can be a fun tank to play with.

Well, I was about to complain about the 9-loss streak I and Vergil were having in tier 9, coupled with teams who just needed to fucking uninstall the game and walk away from the computer.
Then were decided, "Fuck it. Let's play something we can win. Let's play T29s".
We went though a 14-win streak. I love this goddamn tank.

I just tried to grab the T29 to play a game right when I woke up. It took me until after my first shot, which halved an IS-3's health and lit him on fire, for me to realize I'd accidentally pulled out the T30 instead.RoboRed wrote:Well, I was about to complain about the 9-loss streak I and Vergil were having in tier 9, coupled with teams who just needed to fucking uninstall the game and walk away from the computer.

I can do one better and youtube it (which would kind of be worth it at least for me setting two tanks on fire and destroying the engine in a third).Harmony Ltd. wrote:replay or it didn't happen.Vergil wrote:"I wonder if I'm any more awake now?"

Junkers sent the pic to Vergil last night on teamspeak, who subsequently posted it in chat. We all found it absurdly hilarious. Granted, we were also slightly inebriated and extremely tired. We also vowed to say "shit's on fire, yo" every time something got set on fire that night.Vergil wrote:*snip*

Rule 1 with the Cromwell - You are not a scout.RoboRed wrote:Anyone got any tips on playing the Cromwell? I just can't get a grip with the thing. There's got to be some middle ground. That speed isn't for rushing ahead, you just don't have the camo to support it. A Cromwell should never ever be the first tank in a line. Nor should it ever be approaching tanks who are looking your way. I prefer to think of it as the term "exploitation tank", reading the battlefield, spotting enemies whom are isolated or vulnerable and then pouncing. It's a predator, an ambush tank that spots its targets and then reaches them while they are still vulnerable using that speed. That doesn't mean rush them though. My usual method of play goes like this:
1 - Find safe location near allies
2 - Wait
3 - Watch the enemies, spot any vulnerabilities
4 - Use speed to burst toward the location to attack from
5 - Make the attack, spend no more than a few seconds, shoot a couple then move
6 - Run away, back to a safe location
7 - Repeat
8 - When game begins to shift into isolated areas, start preying on lonely tanks. Circle them, annoy them, harass them. Run past and get the arty. Eek out, shoot then run away. Use the open space when there are fewer tanks.
Cromwell comes alive in the middle to late game.
However it also serves the purpose of being a fast flanker if you spot a group of allies in need. This tank does have the speed to bring a pretty good gun to bear in a place that needs your help. It also has the ability to act as a great seizing of ground, like the hill on Himmelsdorf. A medium tank up there can dissuade others from getting it, allowing your allies to move unmolested.
Then of course, there's the hilarity of hunting lights. A Cromwell charging into a pack of light tanks is like a shark into a shoal of fish. They scatter in panic.
In essence, you aren't a frontliner. Use the speed to move and engage on your terms against enemies you want to attack while being in the places you want to be. It's a very proactive tank once it gets underway.

Case in point. And honestly, we didn't expect that all of us would survive going up that hill by ourselves. (There's a little point as we we're rolling up the hill where we all point our barrels in the air as a "salute", because Krim played the Soviet national anthem over teamspeak as we "marched towards our doom".)RoboRed wrote:Chi-Nu Kai platooning is fun.
I probably would have survived this one, had my brain not registered a second too late that Vergil told me that Dicker Max was looking in my direction.

I'm going to have to uninstall Gnomefathers' sound mod. It sounds really nice but if you're in anything above tier 2 it makes brawling impossible because every time someone fires within 100m of you the scripts make my client freeze. Which even when it doesn't get me killed is EXTREMELY irritating.
But when you're backed into a corner and you have to shoot the tracks off of someone coming round to get you, having two people fire somewhere vaguely nearby means you are absolutely dead. Weirdly enough though it only seems to be the middle tiers which are horrible to play with it on though. Low tiers it doesn't happen much even with people firing all around and I don't notice it in max tier games either. Maybe some of the 100-120mm guns in tiers 5-6 are horribly glitched, I don't know.
Or maybe it's just the mod requiring a relatively large amount of oomph to run and my pc just can't keep up along with running everything else at maximum.

Yeah, those sounds mods tend to do things with the processing of the game. Mine even screw with my game and cause a massive lag at the start of the first match of the day. Anyways...
Highlight of the day: http://www.mediafire.com/download/fp4g21s9djxxl43/20131105_1353_usa-T18_01_karelia.wotreplay
Honestly, I thought for the entire match that I was using HEAT. I laughed my ass off at the end when I found out I wasn't.
