I know the IS-3 had a particular problem where it would litterally shake itself apart because the quality of welding was so bad at the end of WWII.

Just think- soon there will be server hopping allowed from RU to EU servers. So we'll have to play with these people.
That said, I wonder what would happen if the Chieftain started pointing out flaws in western designs as much as he did here. Although to be fair he didn't really tear it apart that much.

The Chieftain has done western tanks and pointed out problems with them, visiting a Conqueror he had a lot of critiques on its design. Entirely expected really, it was no perfect tank and was rushed together simply to act as a counter to the apparent threat of IS-3 murdertanks. Made to get a 120mm gun onto the field to snipe them off and...well not much else really. In that sense it did what it was meant to do, but take it outside of its narrow focus and the Conqueror really shows that it's lacking in many areas. The manner of stabalisation most of all, which Chieftain pointed out in brutal detail.

It's why I like him a lot. He's very critical of tank design but at the same time you know he loves them truly and he's always giving a nice "history context sensitive" overview of them. The fact he is a tanker himself helps make it much easier to accept his opinion. He had a lot of praise for the Comet, even if the video was pretty harsh on everything that had come before it, but I've yet to watch his videos on the M103, Chaffee or other American ones. I'm surprised the Russians have missed his love of the Object 416, he gave that a pretty damn big approval when he got in it. The ammo rack storage in particular.

As a note, I've now acquired the Conqueror's proper gun. It makes a world of difference, although the turret loses most of its depression and has basically no armour at all now. The damage output playing it like a Conqueror pays off though. Sitting back and sniping, think of it more like a turreted TD and it gets by fine. I've also been trying a new realistic gun sound mod that makes the entire game sound epic. Nothing as brilliant as hearing the shell actually being loaded properly now. Especially in autoloader tanks with the whining mechanical lifts going on in the background. FV215b 183 sounds like a death star startup sequence. (While the gun firing is like God's Finger)

Gnomefather's historical gun sounds mod really is a must have. I don't like the reload sound for the shorter barrel 105s, though. That goddamn clanging noise is way too loud.

The realistic engine sounds mod is also pretty cool (especially the version with add-on that puts in national radio chatter in sniper mode), but I always have trouble adding the thing in.

Highlight of the day: getting sadistic pleasure in randomly catching QB's livestream just in time to see him get his ass kicked in several consecutive games, one of them being a streamsnipe. Yeah, we can't all have good days, can we?

Had a lot of fun with the ELC. Got first and second places on winning teams by using it as a tank destroyer in tier 7/8 games. Powerful gun, excellent manoeuvrability.

I would tend to think that the ELC is Peak French Light Tank. I get the feeling that the AMX 13 (75 or 90) is not going to be worth the effort.

Re the ELC :

6 metric tons tank destroyer. The driver and the gunner are seated at the left and right of the 90mm gun, in a casemate turret. Halted, the turret traverse was of 360°. In motion, the traverse was of a more classical assault gun.

Found this noteworthy enough to be shared.

Of note, the in-game chassis is that of the ELC Bis of 1957, and not the first one from 1955.

Also, there's no word about it using anything but a 90mm gun. So I've got a hunch that the awful 75mm gun(s) porting over from the AMX 40 are only a fantasy.

That's a point, I'd better dust off the Halloween hangar from last year and put it on now- I've already been carving pumpkins and getting stuff ready for Halloween will go into full steam tomorrow.

But the poppy field and armistice day garages are really nice- I think the poppy fields may end up as a semi- permenant one.

I've finally got brothers in arms with the Centurion crew, although playing alone with the 20pdr is painful, it really struggles sometimes. I had three terrible games in the Centurion 3 including one where all I could do was bounce the lower glacis and sides of 704's and the REAR of a jgtiger) before I finally decided to give in, follow the lemmings and let them spot for me, carrying the game along with two other people.

The Centurion 9/1 has been particularly annoying. It has the rate of fire to be punishing, but without a teamate you can't use it very effectively. Not to mention playing solo overall is a lot less interesting.

This is a perfect example of why the new patches get put to the EU group last.

It's the most critical group when it comes to the game itself and any flaws in the new patch get enormous attention drawn to them, so the patch gets stress tested on the others and hopefully fixed before it hits Europe.

I've already fought alongside Waffentrager E-100's today. They can be some scary beasts when they put their minds to it (Unfortunately I was driving my Maus on glorious Gulag map. Ouch).

Also I've scored lots and lots of T7 kills today in my T18, loltraktor and Hotchkiss. Although two hotchkiss with good skills vs a T18 with everyone else as T7's still can't win sometimes because the teams are just that bad. Also the Hotchkiss' are vulnerable to crew damage from MGs so facing on three-five at once each is never going to end well after you watch ten of your guys rush one spot and die horribly.

For the second consecutive time, WoT closed itself after a game's end => end of battle, cut to windows' desktop.

Is that a 8.9 known issue ?

In other news. People suck (big surprise). I got my 3rd class mastery for my Chi-Nu Kai in a loss. At least the matchmaking is a lot more fair than it was in the test server (also a big surprise).

Bought an american T18 for the heck of it today, with some free Xp I had laying around. Equipped the howitzer and maxed every other modules.
