- People, what do. A person who I'm pretty sure wants to be in some sort of relationship with me has asked to add me on Skype. This is a problem. I think they're pretty cool and all, but I really don't know them all that much (we are in the same circles, and have taken classes together and interacted in these capacities) and TBH I don't feel anything particularly romantic towards them. I recognize that this is the point of dating - to get to know someone and find out if feelings develop. However, I do not think that this would be a good idea. For one thing, I'm pretty sure I'm not the person they think I am. It's not that I project a particularly false face these days, but the level of confidence and, I don't know, nice-ness that people seem to see in me tends to give them an inaccurate idea. Bluntly, I am not the kind of person anyone sensible would seek out to date. I have been bitten by this effect before. While it might be nice, and a good experience, to attempt dating again, it would not be acceptable to do so by relying on others' ignorance - or worse, abject desperation.
There are other factors, too. I mean, for one thing, I hate Skype and almost never run it; it's annoying to shut down, and always tries to make itself a startup program with every patch. =P Worryingly, I feel like I may have allowed this to go on for too long, having previously thought that it couldn't possibly even exist, and then having decided that it had gone away if it had ever existed in the first place. I am not sure this problem exists even now... but I'd say it's quite likely. Since it has not gone away over the period of about half a year, I am mildly concerned that it is less of an "interested" thing and more of an infatuation thing. Again, normally I would consider this patently ridiculous, but... Fuck, I think I may need to have a word with some of my friends, it is entirely possible that they are behind this to some degree... this would explain a lot of things.
Anyway. Advice? I feel like a jackass for having this problem when it's frankly the kind of problem lots of people - myself included, in different circumstances - would not mind having in the slightest.
