Ooo, nice find. I like this humanized Gilda looks. Followed.
Always did like Gilda. Follow'd
I've always really disliked her.
Maybe I'm just oversaturated with POV fanfics, but I always interpreted her "bitchiness" as her just wanting to spend time with Dash (God only knows why) and being annoyed by Pinkie (God only knows who wouldn't). She may be short-tempered, but compared to our bigoted, neurotic, often narcissistic main cast, a short temper is hardly worth writing home about. Plus, as mentioned, I like what the fandom's done with her characterization.

Only half correct. It's banned from his thread, not this one. Somber doesn't have rule over this thread, and as such, if the topic was to turn to such a course then all he could do is either ignore the posts or try to steer it elsewhere.

She's just too willing to solve her problems with physical aggression while, simultaniously, terrible at simply stating her mind.
I don't particularly know what the fandom has done with her characterization, though.
That's what I'd do as well. But, just look at episodes like Fall Weather Friends or Super Cider Sack Of Shit (or whatever the fuck it was called), or episodes like Bridle Gossip. The mane six are often just as quick, even quicker, to get competitive, even hostile, and assume the worst.
The fanfics I've read have reflected this. She has anger issues, yeah, but she's even more consistently loyal than Rainbow "leave your friends behind in the desert" Dash

He didn't ban it, he asked us not to do that anymore. I don't think any of us want to do that discussion again, and it's still in the archives if anyone really wants to see it. If a discussion started up on a subject that most of us felt uncomfortable with, I think this group would politely ask it to stop, and it would. Somehow discussing "raeping, murder and gore" semi-civilly has caused us to erect a strong niceness field around these forums. And I don't even think it's because ponies.
We still talk about really nasty stuff, but we're polite-ish to each other.

I'm just not going to like Gilda because rainbow dash is worse.
I'm just saying that she's no more flawed than most of the so-called heroines, so a fandom willing to like them should be willing to like her.

The show's creators are used to working on other cartoons. Cartoons in general have characters constantly getting into conflict with each other. It always sucks when the mane 6 and others exhibit Sudden Jerk Syndrome, because by their own characterization and the goals of the show, they shouldn't.
Despite the armories filled with stupid headcanons, I still find that the best interpretations of all the characters comes from the fandom. There's just more opportunity to explore deeper, yadayada, and the best fan content does this.

My apologies, I do tend to be rather unclear sometimes. Her tendency to speak her mind and be blunt (even to the point of brutality, which is an atribute I'll admit we share), her "I ain't takin' yo shit" personality, and her aforementioned loyalty to her homedogs make her a bit more relatable, at least to me and several of my peers, even more than the mane cast

How about this. People like different characters for different reasons and may even dislike characters you like and that's okay.

It's also okay to wonder and want to know why someone likes a particular character, and it's also okay to have coherent and reasonably well-thought-out reasons for why you like a particular character

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
That is, ironically, one of the better-handled ways of showing a character's flaws in the show, in my opinion. Her anger doesn't manifest as just snippiness or grumpiness, it actually affects her decision-making abilities. Granted, I don't like the particular trait of her being so quick to anger (being fairly even-tempered myself, mostly) but it's a humanizing (gryphonizing) trait that causes her problems rather than a horrible, demonizing flaw as some see it.
while we're on the topic, do you mind if I ask why you've latched on to Trixie like so?

I meant it the same way people say there's only 3 Indiana Jones movies. The season 3 episode is fun, but it also inexplicably makes Trixie an evil supervillain. Bronycurious makes the best argument for why this is terrible over here, (he takes his time a bit, though,) but to summarize: The end of Boast Busters would be the beginning of a redemption arc for the character of Trixie, and instead of that happening she inexplicably goes megalomaniac conqueror of a small village.
swicked wrote:She expects people to do what she wants without her having to say a thing and is angry when they don't. Remember when she yells at Fluttering?
I know people with that character flaw, and it's in no way 'autistic'. It's not so much expecting people to do what they want, as it is overreacting when someone doesn't do what they want them to do. The fact that these people don't recognize or ignore that they never said anything, or that people make mistakes or misunderstand, is exactly why the action is irrational. RD is sometimes an inconsiderate jerk, but she seems young enough to me that it's something I can see her growing out of.
So completely off-topic, but for anyone who frequents Fimfic, I just won about 400 somthing-ilium internet points. (Regidar is a Fimfic celebrity. He's crazy and everywhere.)

I ended up playing it for 34 hours for 60$ or 50$ and probably will play it through again, so I'd say it is worth the money. Combat could not be combat at all, you can sneak through almost all encounters with human opponents. And the stealth is very well done in most instances. Gunplay is more realistic than most but not excessively so, I'd say. You can play it many different ways, I'd suggest watching gameplay.Mister Frost wrote:Ketchup wrote:I have it and played through it twice. I don't suppose any of you follow James Corack? He just put up a post analyzing Merriwether Williams and why her episodes usually feel so unlike the rest of the show; essentially, she's used to working on shows with faster-paced, sharper humor. We as fans don't have as much of an idea of what makes a good script or anything (in general, not necessarily talking about MLP), so we're able to write closer to how we feel the show should be, and our remarkably interconnected fandom has allowed us to collectively build a more-or-less standard vision. An older example, but we created essentially a single interpretation of Luna before S2 jossed it; what we were given could easily have resulted in several characterizations. I'm not saying we know MLP better than the writers, but we know our MLP more intimately, and don't have to worry so much about higher-ups or past standards when implementing it. Besides, we don't have to follow any particular format. We're free to write a 66 thousand word story about what happens if AJ gets Rainbow's wings for a few weeks, or explore the entire life of two ponies in three chapters.Derpmind wrote:The show's creators are used to working on other cartoons.
