For those of you who are unaware (probably most of you), the Asylum readership divided pretty quickly into two broad camps. The Realists believe that Twilight is actually crazy while the Dreamers believe that the hospital is an illusion. Oh, and I think that there are a few people who believe both that Twilight is crazy and that Broadhoof is an illusion.

- Spoiler:
I think her mind is jumping bodies. I've read up to chapter 10. Her demeanor, when she went over to Ponyville, completely changed. At the Asylum she has a hard time controlling her emotions, her mind rambles about conspiracies and she has episodes in which she passes out. In Ponyville, she had no panic attacks... she was reasonable and controlled. When first confronted with her doppleganger, instead of locking up for minutes at a time while she tried to form some illogical argument for what she was seeing, she approached it as if it were an illusion, immediately remembered her illusion-dispel, and cast it.
It doesn't even matter that it didn't work.
She just sees things, has minor hallucinations and is generally unhinged in Asylum. I think her mind is legitimately diseased. In the other world this is simply not the case, though I've admittedly had minimal exposure to it so far. Maybe the more peaceful atmosphere of Ponyville helped her remain calm and focused, but the doppleganger was doing everything in its power to induce a panic attack in Twilight, who could have a seizure in the other world over a photo.
Again, not perfect parallels, but I seriously think her consciousness has been put into the body of another mare. Both worlds are real, with pain and emotion and things to read and learn. She's said things she knew from the other world that have surprised ponies at the Asylum, after all. Things I don't think they expected her to know.
"Hockam's razor" might fly in the face of this, but I still find it to be the most balanced theory for the inconsistencies I've seen so far.

they don't care if you destroy thousands of their ships - they have no hesitation launching nukes on their own positions if this can bring them victory ;
but start targeting civilians and they will rip you a new one.
How often have they been lead into traps by their savagery regarding civilian casualties? How often have their enemies carried out strikes against their softer targets with ships bearing the flags of their allies or those unaffiliated, just to get the race to isolate themselves? How often have they fallen prey to faints and misinformation that lead them to destroy their own positions when it was anything but necessary?
You make them sound like an enraged bull.
Just today my Empire came under a surprise attack of an unbelievable magnitude. My character's reaction ?

At least three hundred billion planetsiders have been killed, in the Federation alone, in this unprovoked aggression. There will be no pity.
There will be no respite.
[the attacker] will disappear. Any power assisting him will follow in his path. As will any power assisting those who would assist him, directly, or indirectly.
May his fate serve as an example to all those who would use WMDs. Our answer will be unilateral, unequivocal, and definitive.

Note : "WMD", "weapons of mass destruction", is the name of weapons powerful enough to destroy ships and kill planetary populations on the scale of a whole sector (400 planets). "Eveil" is the name of the galaxy my empire originally come from and fled as the Apocalypse was coming near.

I'm playing the Spec Ops: The Line campaign.
It starts out like a generic "modern military" 3D Action. It does so in order to lull you into a false sense of security.
Then the tone gets kind of progressively darker. And then That Thing happens.
I'm a bit disoriented at the moment.

It was pretty sweet and fruity, but I've never had a huckleberry. Tasted good to me!
Also, I found a giant bottle of seltzer water that was "Boston Cream Pie" flavor. Tastes alright in sips, not so good taking a large swig. Polar makes it, and their Orange Dry soda is real good stuff too.

I'm certainly capable of discussing the the comments or fan group were I at all active on fimfic in general.

The funny thing is that my guys were the ones who created the local version of the "red cross". The are called.... the Followers of the Apocalypse.swicked wrote:Yes, it is.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Isn't it how an Empire is meant to be ruled ?
That's the point
I'm reminded of the aftermath of an NCR win for New Vegas in which the Followers don't actively support NCR (I looked it up on the wiki). The soldiers kick the glorified good samaritans out of vegas entirely. I mean, honestly, why? XD
Why that name ? Because they were created to find means to save as many people as possible from the incoming Apocalypse which doomed my guys' original galaxy. They're the positive side of their Survivalist bent.
Anyway, I'm still blown off my socks by the sheer political stupidity of the aggressor. His argument, a xenophobic one, was "the Extra-Galactics are trampling our honor and taking over our galaxy". Yes. Yes we are taking over. But only because you are so divided as to spend all your resources in intestine struggles, not seeing farther than your own doorstep, and we aren't killing thousands of billions of people in the process. Asswipe.
Good point is that now, politically, we have all latitude to do as we please in our witch hunt against the guy, and it only reinforced our position.
Really, it's strategic, tactical and political idiocy of the highest magnitude.
With enemies like that...

[a native of the local galaxy, speaking about what just happened and commenting on the aggressor's call for a galactic crusade against us]
No, you would need to be completely idiot to get in the way of this Galaxy's most advanced nations' on their path of revenge. My condolences go to them... and my future condolences to [the aggressor].
Being big and mean and having a reputation of ruthless efficiency when it comes to bringing whole empires down has its advantages when it comes to International Relations.

Man, it's cliché, but teamwork is a goddamn beautiful thing.
You have the big brute, working with the finesse of a sledgehammer (overwhelming force deployed on a given area) ;
You have the spy, getting us informations to a point where we know the enemy better than it knows itself ;
You have the "farmer", productive enough to supply everyone with the resources to wage a total war, and whose transport ships grant us unequaled mobility, to the point where we can ignore blocus ;
And the saboteur, going deep behind enemy lines to hinder the enemy's war effort.
Assemble all that... Unstoppable.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
The game isn't complex enough to model that kind of thing.
The only thing is I need the happiness level (which dropped to 0.1% on the attacked planets) to come back to reasonable levels (~70-85%), and to let the population numbers regrow to the "normal" level of ~9.5-10 billions per world (the attacks left them at ~2.3-2.5 billions). This should take around 30-40 cycles => one game cycle taking 24 IRL hours - how much time really pass in the game universe during a cycle is left vague, and to some extent vary between players : considering ships are built in 12 IRL hours, infrastructures in 24 hours, the same amount of time it takes to invade a planet with kamikazes and normal ships respectively.
The penalty is that if I start expanding my territories too much, if I conquer / take control of too many planets, I will be starting to have insurrection : worlds will take their independence, the unhappiest first. So in this case, the worlds that fell victim to the bombings.
So the obvious measure is to rebuild and limit territorial expansion (during a war with the attacker, most planets will probably be either transferred to allies or abandoned depending on their productivity / strategic value).
For information, no enemy troops landed on the planets. Simply, 10 bombs exploded which impacted all the fleets and 400 planets of the sector. the mechanism is left vague but there are words about "space-time / hyperspace ripples" or some technobabble like that. There's an element used in the bombs, the same one that allow ships to travel between galaxies - so rare only one planet in one hundred has a source of it.
