Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Kkat recently posted a blog on FiMfiction about posting FO:E there, link, any thoughts about it yourselves. This of course brings up the point of also posting PH on FiMfiction

I've been asking myself for a long time why PH wasn't on FimFic.
I would suppose the nerve of the issue revolve around editing.

Kkat's main issues were the massive editing it would take and the flame wars that would be started (also she was worried it would take over the featured box, but apparently (s)he doesn't know how it works)Harmony Ltd. wrote:I've been asking myself for a long time why PH wasn't on FimFic.

The feature box thing is the first comment, not Kkat, as far as I can tell.

She commented on the issue, but it was basically "if you say so" :
Kkat wrote:I'm not familiar with how the feature box works. If Fallout: Equestria would dominate the feature box entirely, I would consider that a major problem, as it would prevent new authors from getting a chance to be noticed. If, however, it would just take up one spot on a considerably larger list, that is much less of an issue -- and having it on such a list for a few days before requesting a block would be a nice way to inform bronies not watching this account that the story was now available here. :derpytongue2:

Also, are we sure Kkat's female? Did (s)he ever mention it? I've heard reports going both ways and some saying we don't know.

Hey, authors, have you used the FiMfiction gdocs importer recently and how good is it? I've heard horror stories about it, but those were a while ago. I want to know because I need to see how creditable my argument on the topic is and I've never used it myself.

Crap. Utter crap.
I don't know if they've improved it since I used it, but when I did, it cut out random words or even entire sentences.
(edit: Mind you, this was back when I first started writing)

If she wants it to be there, she should put it there. If she doesn't, she shouldn't. I don't get why such a big deal is being made over it. It's just a story, just like every other story on the site, and every single story there has the same "problems" that hers would there.
1) Transferring it over with 'issues' and 'discrepancies':
I know a lot of people disagree and say that the G-Doc importer doesn't work and leaves stuff out, but I have never had a single problem with it. I don't know if I'm just lucky or if people are remembering the beta-version of it that did have a few issues involving stylizing and stuff like that, but I still transfer all of my chapters through the importer and have yet to get a single discrepancy. Also, if she's worried about it, she can just get someone to go through, or she can do it herself, and make sure every chapter gets changed over properly. Murky does it, and those chapters take 3 hours just to read, let alone check for formatting and content before publishing; so if she really wants to do it, it's possible with a little work.
2) People hate it and possibility of "flame wars":
There are over 300 FoE stories on that site. Every single one of them gets downvotes and the occasional negative comment from people who don't like the universe because they apparently have nothing better to do than be dicks to new authors just because they chose to write in the FoE setting. But I have never seen a single 'flame war' or full out argument in all my time there, so I doubt the main story being posted there would be any different unless someone did something to provoke it or fed it when someone who doesn't like FoE made a negative comment about it.
3) "No Purpose":
Yes, it's elsewhere. Yes, it's easy to find.
No, some people don't want to read stories outside of FiMFiction. I know it's a little weird, but sometimes people find a medium for reading that they enjoy and will not differ from it. Some people will never read an e-book because they love the feel of real pages and actually holding a novel. Some people are the exact opposite and prefer the ease of carrying around hundreds of books on a little tablet that they could read at any time. And some people don't like reading from G-Docs or don't have an e-reader to put the story on (plus audio books are stupid imo unless you require it), so they stick to reading from FiMFiction. How many there are exactly, I don't know, but it could easily get more readers (not that she seems to care about that).
However, in the end I do think it's her decision and that it's a bit ridiculous that she posted a blog on FiMFic asking everyone else to make the decision for her. And for the sake of not being a dick, I'm going to stop my comment there.

Re transferring from Gdoc :
Ctrl + A ; Ctrl + C ; Ctrl + V
Quick check to see if there's any problem.
Chapter per chapter.
Even if she transfer only one chapter per day, in two month it's done.

@Preachy Writing
Anyone ever read The Sword of Truth books? The preachiest and least-well-thought-out books. Author couldn't decide which he got a bigger boner for: Ayn Rand or sadomasochism.

I own all of them. It was at a time when I somehow had nothing else to read. Not going to read again, I think.
The TV series (Legend of the Seeker) was better. Although sometimes characters would act in an extremely dumb way.
Still, I'd have liked to see where it'd go, as at the end of Season 2 it seemed to more or less detach from the book plot completely... and then it got canned.

Ferngully is preachy? Well, yeah, it kinda is, but the main feature is Tim Curry's awesome voice.
Concerning Avatar, well, who cares about its story. I came to see the visuals, and it has these covered. From the moment on landing when Jake's machine gun seemed to poke right into my face. The other reason was to see Sigourney Weaver on screen, that's covered also. The story is pretty much redundant. Although there's some good fanfics I used to find.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I didn't actually find the visuals all that impressive. They were cartoony and still looked ridiculously fake, no matter how detailed they were. The plot was totally flat and cliched, the 'heroes' were unlikable, selfish jackasses, and the main 'villain' was such a badass I was rooting for him the whole time

Re PH on FiMFiction:
This is of course up to Somber, who I've not asked, but I personally would argue against porting the story before it's finished, if at all. Having the only live copy being the one in Gdocs makes things much easier for me in terms of typo correction, among other things.

Somehow I find this inspirational. I might have a line like this in my story, maybe even involve some creepy character checking their gun, smiling as they say the line.RoboRed wrote:
