Thanks! My only concern is that there might be some good reason why this was never implemented with the 109.Sindri wrote:Sounds clever to me.O. I'd have told Celestia where she can put that planet, if that were me.
I'm not sure how the whole "Planet-moving-based government" works. I'm not a fan of the seeming absolutism by which the Princesses rule the land. It's pretty much a totalitarian autocracy, a fact which is barely brought up by the fandom

To the contrary, wholes pans of the fandom have been toying with the "Tyrant-lestia" idea. You just haven't been exposed to it it seems.

Not to mention the primary setting of the show IS the middle-ages based on the architecture and government structure, so it's completely normal.

Well, in the Middle Ages, nobles, clergy and such were usually the only ones around who could read, let alone deal with foreign dignitaries and such. It's one thing to leave the running of the country to them under those circumstances. It's another entirely to rule over the country uncontested when the populace seems to have modern levels of literacy and education

Well, you also have to take into account the fact that these Monarchs are also, as far as anyone know, divinities, with the power to match. They're no mere mortals.

Right. That's why Chrysalis was unable to overpower Celestia when given the love of only one pony, and the crisis quickly ended with the Princesses smiting down the Changeling invasion with great and furious power.
Oh, wait.

Immortal.
Move the sun and moon. (yes, unicorns used to do this, but after going over 1000 years without it I'd imagine they've forgotten the magic required to do so).
Overthrew Discord.
On top of that, it isn't like they're cruel rulers. They're incredibly kind to their subjects. I would agree with you if they were walking around doing whatever they wanted and smashing anyone who said otherwise, but they aren't. Hell, Luna didn't even punish Ponyville at first when they feared her and didn't show her the expected respect. She just said 'fine' and tried to leave. It's a system that's working, so why change it?
And on the Chrysalis thing: She was siphoning love from Cadance (the Alicorn who's special talent IS love, and apparently the creation or increasing of it, so we could assume it's unlimited from her), and Shining Armor (related to Twilight Sparkle and the one who was creating the shield). It's hardly fair to say that she was only taking love from 1 pony, when the ponies she took it from were an Alicorn and a unicorn that could make a shield around Canterlot even Celestia didn't know how to make.

There was no indication she was stealing from Cadence, just that she'd replaced her.
In retrospect, why she impersonated Cadence rather than the object of her theoretically infinite affection is a question for the ages

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Chrysalis is a different goddess, from a foreign land, trying to overthrow the old pony ways and institute Chrysalistianity. She struck a blow by converting one of the locals to her side and using his fervor to temporarily defeat the true goddesses. The old believers fought back, ultimately undoing her not simply by force of arms but by the strength of will and belief in their culture, and expelled the false goddess and her followers.
Yeah, that whole two parter makes a lot more sense when described in terms of a metaphorical Pagan pseudo-fascist struggle against encroaching Christianty.
Be wary, for you have entered... the Headcanon Zone.

I was under the impression it took love from the entire relationship, not just from 1 side.Mister Frost wrote:There was no indication she was stealing from Cadence, just that she'd replaced her.

Celestia hasn't had a real fight that we're aware of since a thousand years ago, when she used the Elements to seal NightMare Moon. And the only other incident we have of her fighting is her and Luna together against Discord when, again, they used the Elements. In short, she has never, as far as anyone can remember, been in a fight. Every engagement in her very long life has been divided into either something so trivial she just waves her divinity at it and it folds, or something she can't face alone so she lets the artifacts do the work (and she hasn't faced the second in a millennium).Mister Frost wrote:Right. That's why Chrysalis was unable to overpower Celestia when given the love of only one pony, and the crisis quickly ended with the Princesses smiting down the Changeling invasion with great and furious power.
Oh, wait.
Chrysalis on the other hoof, would need to be by her very nature a master of economy of force. Until and unless they conquer Equestria the Changeling swarm would be operating on whatever energy they could covertly acquire, and if that was anywhere near a comfortable amount they would never have had incentive to take the huge risk of invading. Every scrap of energy would be hoarded and carefully parceled out with a minimum of inefficiency or excess.
So in that throne room you have on one side a goddess with no combat experience. On the other a Queen probably well used to fighting desperately using tiny scraps of energy, who had then been gathering power for weeks from the pony who could independently support a nigh-indestructible barrier over an entire city and when powered by the love of that same relationship could hurl an entire army to the horizon. Celestia's attacks would be comparable to a tidal wave, incredibly powerful but directionless, slow, and inefficient. Chrysalis's would be a torpedo fired through that wave.
Anyway, the whole Tyrant Celestia thing? A dictator is, in theory, the most effective and efficient kind of government if you get the right person in charge; no bureaucrats bogging things down, no partisanship getting in the way of any progress, just an intelligent and talented leader with the best interests of the country and its people, supported by appropriate advisers and underlings. The problem with the system is that an idiot or an evil person at the top fucks an entire country, and every "better" system that has been devised since has had the goal of limiting that one person's power with term limits, checks and balances, etc. and the hope to decrease the chance of a terrible person entering the office in the first place with popular elections. If you get a good dictator, and they're immortal, that works better than anything else you could devise. Until and unless they're corrupted or replaced.
Nah, Changelings are specifically stated to feed on "your love for them." Though if the stories Cadence had heard were the whole truth of the matter, it remains unclear as to how the invasion would help the Swarm unless the conquered ponies developed a societal case of Stockholm's or something...CamoBadger wrote:I was under the impression it took love from the entire relationship, not just from 1 side.Mister Frost wrote:There was no indication she was stealing from Cadence, just that she'd replaced her.

My theory is that love directed toward the changeling feeds them directly, but a relationship between two others nearby has some energy losses to inefficiency and spillover that a changeling can skim from if they're nearby. Thus one changeling can sustain itself by replacing a loved one, or by living in a largish loving community, and the whole swarm could feed on the ambient love fields in Equestria if they spread out optimally among the citizenry.
