Talked to my friend on campus today. He had this to say about Lucian:
My god...if he were any more of an African-American stereotype, his name would be "Chicken n' Waffles"...

Re: League of Legends
Make sure you can play every role, and have at least 2 or 3 champions you're comfortable with in every role, and are happy with your runes, before playing ranked. Believe me - even at low silver, it is a LOT harder than normals. A bad player in ranked generally isn't incompetent, just prone to making bad decisions - this means you have to take advantage of those bad decisions, whereas in normals people often just screw themselves over mechanically. Bad decisions like not grouping fast enough, or showing themselves botlane during a baron dance, or even just not warding their jungle well enough early on.
Seriously, ranked is friggin' brutal. But it's also honestly a lot more fun.
Oh, and learn to support well. You'll end up playing it sometime, and it pays to be able to win lane 80% of the time - because if there's an exception to the "not mechanically incompetent" rule, it's supports.
Anyway, today, I was given an equal number of wins and losses. One loss with Vayne, because we had nobody willing to initiate until it was far too late to come back from all the objectives we ceded. One loss was with Nasus, because I wasn't fed enough to deal with the enemy Vayne and our Caitlyn fell off (as she is prone to do)... also because I'm not a good enough jungler to carry, at all. Both wins were with Thresh, because, like I said, playing support well pays off in a big way. The latter game was a 4v5 that we won after 46 minutes, mostly by taking every baron, getting lucky fights in which I was focused instead of our obscenely fed Mister Yi and Varus, and pressing our advantages whenever we had one. Games don't get much better than winning with a man down. (Also, in fairness, their botlane kinda wasn't very good - again, because having a good support is very important)

Yeah, I played 4 ranked games last night. Won 2 and lost 2, in that order.
It seems like every game becomes a stomp one way or the other.
And no worries, support is practically my main because of normals

Re: League of Legends
I think the current meta definitely seems to be rewarding snowballing, at least at the level I'm at. Aggressive playing works better because people aren't as used to it, and can't always respond properly to it. They either get zoned, or get killed.

Re: League of Legends
I tried out Nunu for the first time, I have to say that he's fun to play as. Mainly because he lets me be a pretty big asshole. I've also learned and confirmed that he makes a good jungler thanks to his abilities. He's tricky, but fun, and I really believe that once I get good with him it will prepare me for being a good support in ranked.

Re: League of Legends
Be aware that he's strongly optimized for jungling; IMO other supports do what he does already, except better (poke and stay in lane forever - Sona), and his AS buff, while not bad in lane, is most effective later on in the game, and later on in the game you can still be with your ADC all the time as the jungler. He's not BAD, but Taric's got better targetted CC and healing, Sona's got better poke and healing (and stronger teamfighting without needing money), and his passive is wasted because he doesn't get to hit minions as a support. As you've noticed, though, Nunu in the jungle is basically Satan. Especially to the enemy jungler. =P Oh and Janna has better disengage plus an AD-granting shield that can basically let your ADC win trades really easily if they're at all clever (of course, Janna is also the single highest winrate champ, and has had that crown for a pretty long time now).

Only in the jungle though. Almost everywhere else, The Rat takes the title. And I'm not talking about Twitch.

Could you be more specific? I don't know what you mean by "The Rat". Unless you mean Teemo.Aonee wrote:Only in the jungle though. Almost everywhere else, The Rat takes the title. And I'm not talking about Twitch.

The only two champions The Rat could refer to are Twitch and Teemo.

Just exposing you to a little bit of the LoL community. The only people who don't hate Teemo ate those who play him.

Re: League of Legends
=P Thanks. I'd love to take credit for it, but I got it from Stonewall in this video. He's basically the main source for jungle theorycrafting out there in League of Legends. His voice sounds kinda funny, but he's smart and he knows his way around the jungle very well. (I DID invent the Quantum Garen Principle of Bush Mechanics, though! It works like this: when an enemy enters a bush, and you can't see them, their normal threat radius emanates from the entirety of the bush, rather than just from around the champion, because they could be in any part of the bush, and only when they reveal where they are does the situation resolve. Thus making ducking into a bush a very effective zoning mechanic.)Ironmonger wrote:While I take what you said to heart, I focus on this quote because it is the single funniest thing that I've heard all week. Re: League of Legends
We may have two new LoL players, who happen to be two of my closest friends, and who may show up at our next LoL night. Anyway I was wondering if anyone would be willing to help coach them, since, well, they're worried about sucking.

I'd be more than happy to teach them. Both the LoL night and any other time they want l. Same goes for everybody that's started playing.

Re: League of Legends
Ugh... see, this is why I hate toplane - you get ganked once by your incompetent jungler, who forces you to initiate despite having no CC and being only level 2. This gank results in you dying, and your jungler getting the kill. Normally, this is okay - it's overall more gold for your team, and the jungler can just come top again to swing the snowball back in your direction. But then the jungler never comes back to toplane, and the ganks from the enemy team and the constant all-ins begin... and then every other lane starts feeding... and your jungler keeps ganking bot to prove some kind of point to the toxic support... and then nobody will surrender at twenty...
Ugh. There's just no winning at Silver.
Oh and also support is unplayable ever since Lucian came out.

Re: League of Legends
I found out the hard way that, so far, the only champ I can do shit with is Twitch. As anyone else I just get murdered. On the bright side, I seem to be really good with Twitch, as long as I'm aware of what's going on around me. I mean he's pretty straightforward despite what the difficulty bar says. As anyone else? Nope, time to die and get bitched at for it.
And yeah, it can be hard to get a team that's decently coordinated and able to control their frustration. That's why I try to play with friends as much as possible.

Re: League of Legends
So, Tryndamere is pretty easy and forgiving, apparently.
EDIT: Also, I still haven't seen a single game of ranked in which a Jax won. This time, that was my doing.

Re: League of Legends
I just won my first PvP match that I played on my own. I was in third place as far as KD ratio goes, the only people in front of me being our Fiddlesticks and the enemy Kassadin. It was a lot easier than playing against bots. It helps that I mainly play Twitch.

Re: League of Legends
@Iron
Congratulations! Remember, as the ADC, the most important thing isn't necessarily your K/D/A score. Look at your damage done to champions in the stats, also, and generally just try to make sure you're alive after a teamfight, even if it means not opening up on deliciously squishy targets and playing safer than you'd like - your team has bruisers and assassins for dives (though as Twitch you can often get yourself in a position to make great use of chaos, of course, by waiting for a big initiation from your team before appearing in an otherwise-unsafe location and spray 'n praying). A team with an ADC alive after winning can take objectives faster and safer - often an extra tower, or a tower and an inhib.

Re: League of Legends
My main goal in the game is to help the team as much as possible, but it is always fun to see how much of what I can get away with before I get murdered.
