so here's a question, which would win, the leopard 2 or the Abrams? (both lastest versions)

Depends on versions I assume you mean the newest which would be a M1A2SEP Abrams VS a Leopard 2A6.stringtheory wrote:so here's a question, which would win, the leopard 2 or the Abrams? (both lastest versions)
Both are armed with roughly equivalent guns, the armor is similar but as noted the Leopard shape gives it an edge aside from whatever classified materials both countries use to defend each tank. The important parts the Fire and control system (How accurate from how far away) are all classified. Because that's the key thing in that fight. If either tank goes side on to the other it dies.
This hypothetical fight would very much be who sees the other first as the first tank to see the other tank can move to get the side angle shot and the kill or if sufficiently accurate drop one on the roof or use HE to try and strip a tread. Very much it would be a hide and seek battle with the tank to detect the other the winner.

Technically, the Leopard 2 has a few advantages such as higher speed, little bit more armor, and it uses conventional fuel.stringtheory wrote:so here's a question, which would win, the leopard 2 or the Abrams? (both lastest versions)
But it really depends on who shoots first, and what it fires and where it hits, as Adder said, since the armor is still quite similar in RHAe and the guns are also very similar.(L/44 vs. L/55 barrel length)

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Well, if you look at the actual strength of a Leman Russ in-game and in fluff, its cannon is killer against moderate fortifications and lighter armor, (and eat Necrons, Space Marines, CSM... all basic infantry) variants are killer against everything and anything (Demolisher and Executioner are the most pricey, but they just eat everything, every turn) its frontal armor counts as maximum of regular 40K, 14, with its side armor equivalent to the Predator's front, with 13. Its rear armor is terrible, but that's to be expected. Though, sure, its armor is supposed to be sub-par by modern standards, modern tanks don't have plasma cannons, molecular goop guns, or huge lasers... as a secondary armament. It could destroy a modern vehicle, or at least cripple it, in one shot from any one of these weapons, but the opposite is also true.
With the mass-producability and extensive support it has (tons and tons of artillery, air support, and especially infantry), I think it's one of the most sensible designs of the setting. Its height allows it to more easily shoot above infantry moving in front of it, and its armor is somehow adequate enough to stop a rocket launcher hit from a krak missile 5/6ths of the time, and even then it'll only glance it. Its side doesn't need sloped armor because the IG move in a line, and that line is covered by another line on either side, so they're unlikely to engage targets to the left or right, but they're doomed against air support (which is suprisingly relatively uncommon).
It works in the setting. In real life, it's who shoots first, and with such little technology payload that's found in an average Leman Russ--almost none of them have Machine Spirits, not to mention other equipment like imaging systems--they're not likely to be the one that gets the first word. I'm a Russ fanboy, though; I have several of them and regularly field two of them in a game. I can't say that I don't like them.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I'm not convinced, from a doctrinal perspective, that main battle tank make good recon vehicles.
For a recon vehicle, you want something light and fast, as furtive as you can make it, (relatively) CHEAP in order to have as much of it as you can on the battlefield (intelligence is key to victory), easy to deploy behind enemy lines, and occasionally able to defend itself when its main defense (furtivity) fail it.
The Scorpion has neither of these things, even its gun being under-dimensioned relative to the rest of the vehicle as far as I can tell.

Interesting, I read the first few pages so far, is this supposed to be Snails as a transexual? If so, the reveal is pretty decent.

^That's what I though too.
Anyway, the Predator tank isn't as armored as the Russ I don't think but it's supposedly better as far as systems go.

I never thought much of the zebras until I got into reading some of Hinds stuff. That man is a freaking genius.
Also, I came up with my own FoE version of La Longue Carabine. .500 S&W lever-action rifle with a scout scope. Haven't decided on barrel length. Much more powerful than a .454 Casull and is designed for predator defense against dangerous game. Like Alaskan Brown Bears of all things.

http://www.halopedia.org/Warthog
It weighs 500Kg less than the vehicle I linked (3 metric tons against 3.5), but offer far less protection for the crew (no doors or roof).
It's also twice as long (6 meters instead of 3), more than 50% larger (3.2 meters instead of 2) and almost twice as tall (3 meters instead of 1.7). Which is a problem if you want to, say, navigate in an obstacle-dense terrain like a forest. Also, the increased height make you more noticeable, which is a distinct disadvantage for a recon vehicle.

What is cool with the Warthog, though, is its alleged capacity to run on water (apparently it has an onboard plant that convert water into hydrogen, which is then used as fuel).
But this doesn't change the fact that for a recon vehicle it's too big in the eyes of the low-level of protection it offer its crew.

New pony has some great worldbuilding that seems like it could fit perfectly with FoE canon. Wish it was a longer episode. Also it would appear to be the first actual use of "alicorn" on the show.
