New chapter is up here, and I'm adding it on FiMFic right now.
I hope it's up to snuff, and that you all enjoy it.

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
Alright, so now let's see what we've got here....
First off, I like that Shayle is getting some combat experience under her belt. I wouldn't expect her to turn into the Wasteland's ultimate badass overnight, but it's nice to see her being... well, not helpless.
And now, with her doing her first pre-emptive kill--popping the murder cherry, so to speak--we get down into the good stuff. Will she be able to hold onto her values, and stay on the straight-and-narrow even while she finds herself dragged into a war, or will she become another merciless killer like the Scorpions? I anticipate reading our answer.
This chapter was excellent, Camo

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
A reading thought-log:
Overall, I don't see anything wrong with this chapter. No typos, nothing bad in content. A good chapter.
- Spoiler:
1:
Had to look back at the end of the last chapter to remember what's going on.
It might explain why he's so quiet if he were a pony, he wouldn't deserve to by some schools of thought. Interesting.
2:
Tetrarch sounds like a name to run away from.
3:
Indeed, it could speak.
'Triarii'? I wonder if that's Xion's rank.
4:
Bad feeling about the 'pony friends' being mentioned.
5:
Heh, 'Shy Guy'.
Well, it sounds like a Pony city, from its name.
6:
Minx, an oddball. Go figure.
Delectable backstory.
And there's a threat to a family involved. Splendid.
7:
Solus killing two SRs, hmm.
Meh, I wouldn't be too surprised if Seer was making this all up.
8:
Well isn't that pleasant news for Shayle... bad feeling again.
9:
I'm interested to see what will become of the Solus development.
10:
Someone with a camo hood? Dream? Probably not, I'm guessing.
A squadmate of Xion's, apparently an old one.
Assuming this is actual war stuff going on, judging by the mention of recruits, and not just random slaughter.
11:
Wait, what? This is Shayle? Interesting.
Saw it coming from before the ball, Seer.
12:
Rather sad slaughter.
Tinker. This is getting rather strange. I don't like it, what Shayle's doing. Assuming it's not a dream.
13:
Convincing, for a dream. Likely brought on by the information about Minx.
As suspected.
14:
Solus and Minx, great travelling companions...
I'm getting a lot of tension from this chapter. Wonderful.
15:
Of course, sneaky and subtle doesn't apply to pistols.
Back to Felix. Yay, cuddles.
16:
Yep, stumbling about is certainly funny.
Of course. It's Xion's job that Shayle's doing, not the Praetor's. Xion is probably with her, too. Hidden.
17:
Another feeling: those reassurances are unfounded.
Simple smash and grab, eh?
18:
I wonder what they're up to. Guards, fence, the objective being the fence is odd. Cutting, perhaps?
Assassination, whoopee.
Ah, the gunship pilot. Interesting. Probably paving the way to kill a lot of civilians.
Reassurances from the crazy zebra. Heh.
19:
Of course, a pegasus. That'd give her an edge against the ground-bound zebras.
Solus is a pretty gruff fellow.
20:
Good call for Shayle to want Minx's thoughts over what Seer told her.
Trouble. Fantastic.
21:
Interesting name. Torque. Pegasus-y.
The close encounter reminds me of a song I once heard. Killing can't be easy.
22:
Of course. Just don't think about it. Good for mental health. Suuure.
23:
Being alive is important, to those around her and to herself. A good question, is it worth killing for?
Overall, I don't see anything wrong with this chapter. No typos, nothing bad in content. A good chapter.

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
Well, I've just finished the chapter, and, apart from widespread mechanical errors (which I don't have time to fully document and suggest fixes to, sorry) and one potential serious fault with frankly has me quite baffled, it seemed good. I'm not really sure what you were worried about.
- Spoiler:
- " Xion didn’t bother to wait, apparently he was too excited to get a warm"
Semicolon. Also, I'd use "eager" or somesuch thing in place of "excited".
"So he took her with him, and brought the Rhyming Buck along with them, leaving me waiting for the guards at the gate to collect the parts along with that really quiet zebra; the one that I’d barely even noticed in my past interactions with the Scorpions."
This is pretty garbled. "So he took her and the Rhyming Buck with him, leaving me and that really quiet zebra, the one that I'd barely even noticed in my past interactions with the Scorpions, waiting for the guards at the gate to collect the parts"?
Actually, I'd probably better stop proposing such detailed corrections, sorry; I've only a limited amount of time available to read this.
I am noticing a lot of mechanical errors already, though.
"I would hope so, they desperately need the support."
Is that "they" deliberate?
"Xion heard a rumor that she might be in a shitty little town up north and went to find her."
Which is totally a coincidence, of course. :)
POTENTIAL SERIOUS FAULT
"“I wanted to make sure. How do you know it’s a pegasus?” I cocked my brow.
“Generally they’re the only ones that can fly gunships and the sort, so we’re making the assumption,” she explained. “Hopefully we aren’t wrong.”"
…What? Okay, leaving aside my headcanon regarding Zebra rotorcraft, what about Griffinchasers? Quoth FoE: "“Out of time, everypony!” I shouted as I climbed onto the Griffinchaser II and tried to figure out how to operate the earth pony contraption. Thankfully, it seemed rather simple. While the mechanics used a spark battery-augmented assist, the whole thing was basically pedal-powered." Pegasi, as far as I know, aren't really associated with rotorcraft at all; they're associated with skywagons, sky tanks, vertibucks… Is the Remnant's intelligence that bad, or… what's going on here?
Oh, also, if they don't even know the pilot's race, how are they so sure of her gender? This is all very confusing.

Yeah, I had a few areas where I rewrote a sentence several times because I couldn't figure out how to word it properly or couldn't find a way I liked it worded. I'll look back over that part and re-word it to make it flow better. I probably should have brushed better though.
Don't worry about making detailed fixes, I appreciate the help with this stuff because it's not truly a strong suit for me.
The 'they' is deliberate, you'll see what he meant later on.
And on to the serious fault you pointed out:
I completely and totally forgot that part even existed in FoE
It's probably because I haven't read the story in almost a year now, but for some reason I got it stuck in my head that pegasi were the only ones able to operate flying machines of any kind. Maybe it's because I mentally picture sky tanks and vertibucks as rotary wing, but thanks for pointing it out.
I'll go back and work through that portion again and do some clarifying work on it.
As for the gender thing, it's the only thing they knew about her aside from 'she flies the gunship'. If they knew everything about her, I felt it wouldn't make much sense since zebras aren't well liked in Spur, so gathering any intel would be dangerous and difficult. Later you'll learn that the only reason they knew it was a mare flying it was through rumors.
Again, thanks Hinds.

Ooh, and I'm also now wondering what Spur's power source is; it must be something more reliable than scavenged spark batteries if they send the rotorcraft out on patrols... Perhaps the town is using a Stable's reactor?

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
Posted both here & fimfic. I really did love this chapter and knew it'd be amazing as always. You really don't have any reason to worry.
- Spoiler:
- Hm, so this strange one hasn't got any stripes on him? Immediately my mind says "pony" though that's a bit obvious. Surely it's something more unusual but still something that would fit in like he's an albino or something to that effect.
Still, it could be the simplest answer is the correct one here and he's actually a pony raised by zebras all his life, trained to think and act like a zebra and thus has such undying dedication and admiration for the zebra cause that Xion was impressed by him and allows him in his squad. Might also explain why he doesn't talk.
I mean, rather than talking and sounding like a pony, perhaps he doesn't talk and... well, if I'm wrong and he is an albino zebra or something, this is all useless anyway but I'm guessing you'll get a laugh out of it all the same so yeah, leaving it in here.
(For the record, the proper term for that would be quisling, named after Vidkun Quisling, a Norwegian man who assisted the Nazi's in their takeover so he could gain power. He was so pro-nazi that he even outlasted a lot of Germans in undying respect for the furher. Little history lesson there!)
Pale blue eyes eh? That rules out albino. Pony?
So, he -can- speak, but speaks quickly? I'll continue to think he's a pony and his quickness in speech is to try hide that as much as possible. The longer he spends on any note the more time anyone has to notice his voice is any different (if it is at all.)
Xion decides whose on the team? Well that only reinforces my previous statement about how if silent guy was a pony but bred to be loyal to zebras that he could have possibly been accepted by him for it despite that. (Or perhaps, even for it.)
Nothing more to say about Solus or the bar scene... moving on. Just read the bit about Minx, Shayle is talking about how hard it is to get to sleep. Just writing this down so you have some idea where I'm at.
Took me a second there, but I'm guessing this is moving onto Minx. Makes the most sense seeing as we don't know where she went off to and the whole shimmering / hood thing.
Wall of hatred... yeah, I'm definitely going to go Minx.
...Or not. So, if it's Shayle, it's a dream.
Huh. Interesting dream sequence, though seems a little too realistic feeling / detailed for a dream, though that could just be me. I mean, true, we all have dreams like this from time to time but... no, it's just me being picky there now I think about it. Carry on.
Or not. No, something seems wrong with this dream. Forgive me for my criticism, but I'll go back to my point and stand by it. It has more of a prophecy feel to it than a normal dreamscape - which if you're going to tell me it's meant to be her having a prophetic nightmare of what she fears she'll become, that makes it somewhat understandable but even then, such details such as Seer having the bullet through her head and all that... whenever I've had dreams, my dreams have never needed to explain themselves and yes this is a story, but it just seems to break that little idea.
The action in the dream is very interesting though. I don't hate everything about it or even hate it at all. I'm ever so slightly put off my suspension of disbelief by it but not greatly so. So yeah, the action redeems it.
Why do I get a distinctive rape feeling from this? I mean, I know you said there wouldn't be and I wouldn't go batshit insane at you if you did use it, though yeah, that's the feeling this little meeting at the gate gives off.
(That or of a planned hit on Seer and the others.)
D'awwwww, Felix makes me smile. I really love moments like these.
D'awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.
One could argue he was trying to get her killed... or you could also argue that instead of trying to get her killed, he's actually trying to find out what she's capable of. If she gets into combat and manages to hold her own (Which she would because plot armour, though I don't say that in the bad way. It's only when plot armour is abused that it's bad) then that would tell him about her abilities.
Maybe it's a test?
Ooooh, I like the way she's gone and killed the two. Without acting like an angst ridden whiny little bitch, either. Good.
Yes she's allowed to have a moment to think about it all, encouraged even. However, I'm so tired of the angst routine Blackjack pulls all the god damn time. It's refreshing to see something different.
Now, as for their bodies and gear, I want her to take the battlesaddle and equip it seeing as:
1. it's loot
2. it'll keep her safe to have a better weapon / system
But I can totally understand if she doesn't have the time to put it on in the end. Reading on now.
And end of chapter. Brilliant chapter, thoroughly enjoyed it and I really don't see why you were so worried. Yes I brought up the dream but overall it wasn't that much of an issue, nothing like recent events surrounding P.H for example.
The action was well written, characterisation handled well, it gave us some backstories and names. It gives us a hint of what's to come and yeah, handled well.
I was initially unsure of the switching from Shayle to Felix and then back to Shayle, but with the way the chapter ended it definitely felt right to do it that way around.
Again, brilliant chapter and I really did thoroughly enjoy it, Camo.
Thank you for the note at the end of the chapter, made me smile. You deserve nothing less than me advertising you and your story though because you really do put a lot of effort into it and it shows.
You come out with a consistent level of quality that's inarguably good enough to get a lot more attention than it currently does, you just need that word of mouth push to try get the ball rolling for you.
I'm really glad you write All That Remains, it really does rival if not beat Project Horizons in stories I want to see update.
Thank you for giving it to us.

Here's a counter argument for that:
They have a rotorcraft with a L/HMG attached. They have a fairly well defended area and the resources required to patrol it.
What's to say its not some pre-war airbase or something like that, which would have its own power supply / generator by default?

Hey, it deserves it. It really does.
I'm most proud of being able to win him a life-long feature in one of the groups over on Fimfic,, but yeah, I promote it elsewhere too because for the quality of his writing, he does deserve more attention.
His characters are genuine and his story interesting. There's no reason why I shouldn't.
Also, you make a point and yeah, bad choice of words in my last post but still, it's a possibility.

I believe I did, and I clarified it. I was going for them assuming it was a pegasus, because getting actual intel on a pilot would be difficult considering zebras not being welcome near Spur.O. Hinds wrote:

“We're making the assumption that she is,” she explained. "Pegasi have a tendency to be adept pilots, at least in the past, so that's what I went with when we were told to kill her. Hopefully I'm not wrong.”
@Kipper:
I apologize about the dream sequence being a bit ridiculous. It is supposed to be the 'what I could become' kind of thing for Shayle, and I think I went a bit too far with it, so I apologize.
I'm glad you enjoyed it overall though, and that you continue to promote this for me. I've been thinking about promoting it more myself, but I just worry that it doesn't deserve so much attention. Still thanks.
And thanks to all of you for the reviews and the discussions on it. I honestly never expected this kind of response to my writing (especially not something like "why doesn't Solus have stripes?"), and it's awesome to see. You guys are awesome!

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
My thinking for Solus was that he was a zebra, but it was a quirk of genetics/defect that left him with no stripes--maybe albinism, maybe something else. In any case, the stigma he recieved for being stripless pushed him to prove himself and his loyalty to the Remant, up to and including taking on Rangers by himself, which landed him in the Scorpions.
It also occurs to me that, despite their reputation, the Scorpions are actually rather poor at assassination/spying/infiltration. They were going in hot based on rumors and hearsay to take out a target based on a hunch, not even sure if their target was or was not going to be in a giant gunship, for which they only brought one rocket, and half of their (already tiny) team. I'm no expert, but one would expect days of watching, waiting and stalking, with long-range scopes and cloaking, trying to determine everything they could, verify their targets, and take out all the HVT's they could, not just the pilot. I have no doubt, of course, that this is intentional on Camo's part--they aren't assassins, they aren't even soldiers, they're a gaggle of psychos with neat toys.

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
Don't fret it on the dream. That's just me being picky after dream sequences came up not all that long ago in a /mlp/ FOE thread.
It is completely possible for your dream to have happened the way it did with such detail, though it's a personal preference of mine that dreams are cryptic and fuzzy.
You might know some things without knowing why (which you did put in) though in my own preference, you wouldn't know the backstory to everything.
You just know why or what, even if you don't know why you would know why.
"I have seers rifle because she's dead, it's mine now" is as far as I would have gone on that aspect.
Otherwise, perfectly fine when I think about the rest.

Ehh... Sorry, but that reasoning just doesn't hold water for me. They assume, despite the rarity of pegasi in the Wasteland and the fact that, historically (as far as we know), rotorcraft have been piloted almost entirely by non-pegasi, the pilot is a pegasus because she's a pilot? Also, given how much recon could be done by just one operative with a mistcloak, I'm still a bit skeptical that the Remnant would have discovered the gender of the pilot but not her race.CamoBadger wrote:I believe I did, and I clarified it. I was going for them assuming it was a pegasus, because getting actual intel on a pilot would be difficult considering zebras not being welcome near Spur.O. Hinds wrote:
You're welcome, and I'm glad that I was able to be of assistance (and get these things cleared up). One thing, though: when we spoke on this before, didn't you say that Spur's rotorcraft was a griffinchaser fitted with weapons, an enclosed cockpit, and a motor?
New line:
“We're making the assumption that she is,” she explained. "Pegasi have a tendency to be adept pilots, at least in the past, so that's what I went with when we were told to kill her. Hopefully I'm not wrong.”

Is it important for some reasons that they assume but don't know that the pilot is a pegasus?

Yes. It's going to end up being a problem for them later on. (trying not to spoil anything, sorry for lack of detail in some of my posts.)O. Hinds wrote:Is it important for some reasons that they assume but don't know that the pilot is a pegasus?

Re: Fallout Equestria: All That Remains
Without any spoilers, right now there's not a great deal it's about as such... it's a slice of life mild adventure story that is growing into a true adventure.
I mean, yes there's action in it quite often but it's not had a obvious over-arching plotline yet, though it has been hinting to one coming up more and more as of late.
It follows a pair of zebras who leave the safety of their home and travel the wastes. They're only young, 12 and 18, though that makes it interesting and it allows for naturally learning about the wastes.
I can't say why on anything because spoilers, but it's something you learn in chapter one / two, depending on when you want to be specific.
It's an amazing story, really. The characters are top notch, the writing quality high and the premise is interesting. I never can stop recommending it because it's never enough.
Like I said to Camo with this latest chapter release, I look forward to releases of this more than I do PH now.

Hm... Perhaps they overheard "she's a natural flier" or somesuch thing? I'm currently dealing with this using a headcanon-discontinuity (ie, pretending that it didn't actually happen), which doesn't work if the thing that I'm pretending didn't happen is a key component of the story.CamoBadger wrote:Yes. Something something I'll find some time.
Nowhere you have noticed, to be precise.
Maybe it's just me, but I'm constantly promoting it. Just not on this forum because there's not generally a need on the forum.

I'm sorry about that. And it's not that it's majorly important, it will just show up again later. Again, sorry.O. Hinds wrote:Hm... Perhaps they overheard "she's a natural flier" or somesuch thing?
