My Macbook air from last year had the same card and the performance was pretty poor (but usable on low settings for the one game a year I play) but the 2012 Macbook Air I use now has the Intel HD 4000 and I can run just about any game.

Caoimhe wrote:Yeah you should really just dual boot. I tried running Mass Effect back in the day through OS X using wrappers or whatever and it was a pain in the butt (espically since I don't know much about computers). I'd definitely just dual boot for it.
That would require a copy of Windows, though, and I'd need to figure out either how to move files from the Mac side or how to get things set up from scratch on the Windows side.

Caoimhe wrote:Install Mountain Lion while you're at it!
I'm still holding out hope that 10.9... Though, doing more research now, it looks like they have sort of come to their senses and put a form of "Save as" back in. And Kronenberg did update his Wine package for Mountain Lion...
Well, I'm rather glad you brought this up, as it looks like I don't need to be nearly so afraid of Mountain Lion anymore. Still, if I may ask, how did you find the upgrade? How did it change your filesystem, and what programs no longer worked properly? Oh, and has vanilla iTunes moved the close/minimize/maximize buttons back to their proper places yet? I don't know if 109 works in Mountain Lion.

If you do get a copy of Windows, you can copy stuff from your Mac's drive to the Windows partition within Windows but not from OS X (something about the NTFS file system my brother told me about that doesn't let you go Mac > Windows for whatever reason).

I found the upgrade painless and everything I use (mostly word processing and desktop publishing for work and photoshop) transitioned fine. Only one program didn't work right and that was an ad blocker that was updated a few days later. I didn't notice very many changes or anything that prohibited me from doing things I normally do. If you haven't used Lion, full screen apps are great! You can basically slide between your most commonly used apps and it makes screen real estate a lot easier to manage.

Also my iTunes buttons are back at the upper left side. I remember they used to be vertically but dunno when they changed it.

Thanks; I no longer feel a sense of doom when I think about the need to eventually get a post-Snow-Leopard computer. Most of my remaining PowerPC applications are things that I don't really use much, anyway, or have found equal or better substitutes for.

Oh, I've heard that Mountain Lion handles hidden folders differently than Snow Leopard?

Caoimhe wrote:Also my iTunes buttons are back at the upper left side. I remember they used to be vertically but dunno when they changed it.
Ah, nice; I just found a hack online to put them back without waiting for Apple.

@PH ending
I want BJ to have happy ending...but as one detective have said "There are no happy endings." Though I see uncertain ending, where it's not clear if BJ died or survived...like 'the body never was found'

Aircraft I can understand. Computers aren't that hard though. I suggest using Youtube instead of Google if you want to learn a bit about them. Sometimes it is better to see than to read. (Depending on the person I guess.)

"Every bit the" is, as far as I know, a valid and relatively common phrase, so it appears that there's a dialect difference here.

This was, if I remember correctly, one of those sentences the wording of which we argued about, and I think that it might be better if I don't alter it now.

On "every bit": you're probably right on the dialect difference; I'm more familiar with the "was every bit the [noun]" or "every bit as [adjective]" constructions.

And I can certainly see how the latter case would be one leading to contention.

That's one of the great things about this fandom. You go on a pony forum and start discussing nuclear engineering or railgun design or art or teaching or journalism or martial arts or drugs or anime or literature and not only are there people here interested in all those things, but everybody learns more about the world and often develops new interests because hey, if this guy has good enough taste to be reading Project Horizons, a book he recommends is something I want to read.

Your power plant has an armory?

it does contain fissile materials and it is possible is it not to set the reactor to cause severe damage to the surrounding areas, so should something happen which requires the use of force, then yes an armory would be necessary to facilitate the plant's security forces needs in the event of a major incursion or riot. odds are it has mainly shotguns smgs things for working in close quarters and narrow confines along with the protective equipment such as anti ballistics and riot gear... I doubt there is a large amount of armaments hell it could be just two hunting rifles in a safe...lol

Those are certainly achievements to be proud of. I'll probably end up emptying dumpsters for a living, despite what my teachers and family have said regarding my 'potential'. That is, if we don't all die in some cataclysmic event before it matters.
Edit:
The reason there are such tight security measures at nuclear facilities is because radioactive material is excessively dangerous in the wrong hands. Dirty bombs, straight up nuclear weapons, or other devastating weapons that could be used on major population centers by terrorists. Which is utterly unacceptable.

Your power plant has an armory?

It's a nuclear plant!
We have lots and lots of guns. Sniper positions everywhere, multiple from any angle. Heck, we even considered automated turrets at one point.
Multiple surrounding fences of various makes and degrees including maximum delay fencing (think a fence made out of razor wire, with a box of razor wire around that, and then add more razor wire), sally port lifts and concrete barriers, normal and thermal cameras everywhere with motion capture. Multiple security stations.
Microwave zones and other forms of intrusion protection :)
Bulletproof glass, barriers and fallback positions everywhere. Security even has plenty of backup batteries and generators.
Iris scans to get into the plant. Explosive detectors, metal detectors, radiation detectors... it's a lot to take care of.

Oh, and a license to kill!

...no, really. We'll shoot you if you try and break in here.

thi plant was built in the 70s was it not?

I was told thirdhand that the national treasury(Or whatever it is called) in Ottawa has a similar setup. Visible guards with C8s and cameras everywhere.
