When you've grasped the concepts, interface and had some fun, you may be tempted to have more stuff in the game. I recommend starting with the Fanon is Magic mod, as it seems fun and not overly complex.

The next version of Friendship is Magma is coming... slowly... but it's coming. At least I seem to have the outline of everything I want in there, now, and I've just done the new material and tissue templates and plans. And now, according to my plan, I'll apply these to most creatures in the game.

@Katt re: Goldenblood
Thing is, you are jumping to an awful lot of conclusions here! Assuming that Goldenblood is wicked, abusing Fluttershy and coldly manipulating her simply because he has been ominous in the past. The megaspell thing was something she did on her own, refusing what he wanted her to do. And we still don't know all that much about their relationship. Yeah, maybe the two of them being together is causing her harm, but we've got about as much reason to believe it's bad for Golden too. We still don't know a heck of a lot about the guy, but we know he doesn't just pick whichever path is more evil because it's so 'deliciously evil.' We have more reason to believe that he honestly cared about her than we do to think he was using her. Well- harming her at least. He used everyone. And he loved some of them, too.
Saw a tiny, harmless blue link and suddenly I'm reading all the potential quirks of little virtual people and wondering what mine might be.
Do you have room for one more?

That's awesome, you're awesome.
Has anyone ever tried speed reading and subvocalization suppression techniques? I took a course a while back and found some books from it while unpacking this weekend (only took me 3 weeks to get around to that). I went through it again and then managed to reread all of PH Chapter 1 in 25 minutes with decent comprehension. I read fast already and it did a lot to improve it!

I started a few years back (with Peter Kemp's Breakthrough Rapid Reading), and was able to about triple my pace, but sort of fell off the wagon. Maybe I'll give the training a shot again sometime, but his just seem harder--almost impractical, even--with a screen rather than paper. I'm still able to pick up the pace reasonably well for short periods, but I never really got all that good at retention while speeding, particularly at length.

One thing to note, though -- it wasn't called Tenpony Tower by RD's generation. That was something invented by those who were born and raised there.
You know, on reflection, Tenpony kind of reminds me of the Quarian Migrant Fleet. Once a child grows up, they're expected to find some way to contribute to the community, or else leave until they figure it out.

I suppose it's possible to be both, there's a lot of government buildings that have public accessible food courts, stores, etc in the lower levels.
It's like how the Prudential building here in Boston has a number of businesses in it as well as a mall and several hotels. The MAS hub could be the primary function of the building but it doesn't have to be the only thing.

Ah... assigned reading in school... usually I'd read so much faster than the other students, that by the time the class actually got around to discussions I'd have completely forgotten what happened, and I'd get marked down for it...
My high school English teacher recommended Moonwar and Return to Mars by Ben Bova to me... both have mature content, and one even opens with an obscene limerick on the first page, if I recall correctly. He was actually one of the few good teachers I had.

I don't know how I missed this the first time, but (NSFW) haikuoezu is quite charming, even though it's not the best art, I think it's a very enjoyable style.
And http://askloveletters.tumblr.com/ for super-adorable ponies that just look positively squishable to the extreme.

@Kipper+Other that wants to see it: (Picture) Right, I decided to be lazy and just link it instead of posting x amount of PM's. So here it is:

I might be going a tad bit "old school" on the justice system, but in his case, he have to prove to be innocent, otherwise he is guilty. He's done far to much manipulation and backstabbing to be able to do the opposite. And yes, we don't know anything bar from that in some way, they are together, either from him "tricking/seducing" her somehow, or her having a random, semi-unexplainable Florence Nightingale syndrome... or possibly a Stockholm syndrome, even though that doesn't technically make that much sense. Or a "domestic housewife"... I need t be better using words xD And I know, to me, he is using her, a lot. He has a chance to care for her, yes, and I see the possibility, but most likely that he also is far to selfish to care about it. In a badly compared way: He's basically the guy I see eating a whole carton of ice cream going "Oh goddess! Why am I doing this? I will get so fat, but it's just sooo good.. I don't want to stop. I could, but I don't want to, even though I know this isn't good for me!" he states he know what he's doing is wrong, yet he somehow manages to have access to one of the rarest ice creams in the world, despite being far from qualified from knowing how to take care of, serve or even eat it and yet he deliberately keeps doing it. All and all, he was reckless enough to get her pregnant, and to miscarry. He doesn't stand high up in my book of "he did it for her". Especially not with several pointed out details. (on a side note, I have personal family experience with stress induced miscarriage, so I've been given just how much of a good idea it is to try and push a pregnancy.)

- The honey dip one I personally despise. From all I recall ever seeing from it, they have a flat, bland character, horrible anatomy compatibility, among other things. Granted, I've seen them do something decent every once in a while, but they are right up there with the rest of the bad blogs most of the time. Endorsing bad stereotypes, as said: making bad & often incorrect anatomy and the whole deal. (last time I checked, they still were placing genitals through the pelvis and using generic porn norms, just having cardboard stereotype characters) For just once, it'd be nice to see someone do the opposite of fail anatomy, so people at least could see how awful it looks. Feh... ranting a bit, but just pisses me off that the standard norm is said bad anatomy. People think it's correct and keep drawing it, almost always ignoring the illogical parts, and being ignorant towards people that point out the flaws, due to "it's always been like that", "it's my style" or "what? they look like that.) or whatever. So yeah, sorry for the rambling, but people like that just keep helping endorse the already bad, flawed and harmful stereotype. Plus, they are one of those blogs that fills up half your update blog each day with reblogs and spam. Now granted, I only mostly have seen their old work, but I checked around 10 pages, and saw nothing impressing or innovative. On a side note, a bit more ticked than usual. Mostly due to being in a recent argument with yet another asshole. Being sexist/racist/a bully is NOT a human right, nor a thing all Americans have a "right to do, since it's a free country". You do not have the right to discriminate or segregate. You are just free to think whatever the fuck you want, not act on it, nor attack others with your PoV. Especially not when they are so ignorant of others views.
The second one seems decent though. However, not sure if I'll follow, seems like one of those that posts way many blogs per day if they have time. And I sadly have enough of those already. Might should un-follow a few.

I don't think it's possible to get to Mun. The demo's parts are too heavy for the thrust they give. Reaching orbit is easy once you realize how everything works, but by then, I'm always out of fuel. I can't add more because it would require a higher fuel consumption to get it up there, nullifying it. I did try strapping a whole bunch of engines together, and after it exploded a dozen times on the launchpad it lost control and crashed despite RCS and SAS systems.

Yeah, I've used that design. I've also done single engine ones with liquid boosters. The point of the strapped together engines was to say that it doesn't work.

While I love the idea of The Adventures of Daring "Awesome" Dashwood, and her cool maidservant Paisley, I'm not sure when this is meant to be happening in the story. If I recall correctly, the visit to the MAw hub that Pip saw video of came before her final battle against Gilda at Spike's cave (where Dash was at a disadvantage because of pink cloud poisoning), but her voice was recognizable in that tape, so I'm not sure how this would fit in.swicked wrote:Yo Silent, since you posted your headcanon end to Rainbow Dash, I went ahead and wrote up my own.
I had a few other quibbles with the piece but I'm not gonna be too harsh at a little fragment like that.

The truly tough part about reaching mun is not fuel, but timing the whole ordeal properly.
the best way to get to mun is to allow it to reach the opportune orbit position then blast your way over to its orbit.
Landing shouldn't be too hard, in theory.
It's just making sure you'll actually do it.
fuel consumption (and speed) can be controlled with shift and control keys to raise/lower power to liquid engines.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
While I love reading about Dwarf fortress it's a game I just can't get into because of the creator's insano standards. Ever heard of the point defense mod for Homeworld 2? A great mod that went south when the creators stopped focusing on making an interesting mod and instead making an art project just for themselves. Compare it to Minecraft, when they knew they had a good thing they started making it easier to mod in better looking texture, new parts and new functions while DF and PD both tried to shut those down. PD was particlary bad in ranting at length on their forums about someone who had taken their framework with their permission but did something they no longer liked and demanded they stop all side development (It was a B5 mod if I recall)Valikdu wrote:IncoherentOrange wrote:So I've begun playing Dwarf Fortress. 51 pages in twenty five minutes means one page every 29 seconds which is excellent. My top speed for an average PH page is 23 seconds with excellent reading comprehension but at that speed my eyes physically hurt from the rapid eye movements and I can only read about twenty pages before I have to stop. My standard reading which includes lots of sub vocalization lets me read a page at a sedate 38 seconds per page assuming I'm not scrolling which easily pushes me to a minute a page if it's on an Iphone sized screen. These forums typically it's about four minutes per forum page because of all the backtracking and spoiler clicking.Caoimhe wrote:

Reading aloud in your mind is the single best method to increasing that reading comprehension.
The recording ends before they even finish the junior speedsters song so we don't know if RD fought or ran again.swicked wrote:Here are my counter-quibbles :P
1. I don't remember RB's final battle at spike's cave. I remember there being a confrontation, but I thought RB was still on the run, trying to find the MoA hub, so I must have got the order of events wrong.
The SPP towers are her best bet, they are everywhere, she has access and they are shielded. She could talk to anyone at any MAS hub at will.swicked wrote:
2. If that's so, I dunno exactly where she'd find broadcasting equipment not being controlled by the enclave or irradiated. Maybe she'd fly directly to the MoAS hub and record her adventures either alone or with the original DJ PON3?
The bane of us all when talent does not match expectations. Look to authors who love writing one type of thing but make their money elsewhere. I can name you a handful of authors off the top of my head who are all very wealthy and all writing about things that only some what interest them.swicked wrote:
Edit: I'm actually a big fan of radio plays and tried to write some of the adventures of Daring Dash a while back. Unfortunately, liking something and being able to produce it are two entirely different things...

I'm working 7-10 seconds a page now with scanning and article passing. This is nuts. Speed read!
Also, where is it menitoned that Hoofington has a SPP tower? I remember it being on one of Hinds' maps that was linked but I can't remember where it was mentioned in the story or is it just assumed that there's a bunch everywhere?

Three things. First, I'm afraid that you're misremembering the maps again; none of mine indicate SPP towers in Hoofington due to me not working on that scale on my maps and not having the data. Second, MASEBS 14 is an SPP tower, and I seem to recall that we saw doors to others in the chase through the tunnels from Hippocratic Research. Third, if I remember correctly, Somber has said that Hoofington has four SPP towers.Caoimhe wrote:I'm working 7-10 seconds a page now with scanning and article passing. This is nuts. Speed read!

Aaagh. I knew I was missing something. I wonder what the map I was thinking of is?
Thankfully I'm doing a reread so I can pay more attention to everything important.

What I've heard is that speed reading is pretty much comparable to traditional skimming in terms of speed and comprehension. When I'm reading for pleasure I don't do either one; I don't want to rush through. In fact lately I find myself vocalizing, not even sub, for particularly good bits of dialogue.
No, you were right. My mistake. I had it in my mind that the Spike's Cave recording was the last record of RD, but actually Radar's recording was, since Dash directly mentions Gilda being on her tail at the time. So yeah, maybe she just decided not to go back out...swicked wrote:Here are my counter-quibbles :P
1. I don't remember RB's final battle at spike's cave. I remember there being a confrontation, but I thought RB was still on the run, trying to find the MoA hub, so I must have got the order of events wrong.

Personally, while I could fast read (I know for a fact I can) I often refuse to.
My comprehension is okay when speed reading, but nothing beats a good old normal reading speed to let it all sink in (as long as you're trying.)
As well as this, I read Horizons because I want to, because I enjoy it. To fast read it would, in my mind, be an insult. I prefer to take my time with things and relax with them.
I'm like that with just about everything really, from books, alcohol, games, women, music. Everything.
I'm a pretty laid back guy most times... though I have my moments, admittedly.

I read kind of fast, but not very fast. Although, my relative reading speed has decreased over time to above average levels, I think. I get this perception from the fact that I read through a lot of different books in grade nine, including the class assignments, before most of the rest of the class... except Ketchup, he's about as fast as me. I need to read more books, as it appears that my writing muse is fuelled by them.

Ever heard of the point defense mod for Homeworld 2? A great mod that went south when the creators stopped focusing on making an interesting mod and instead making an art project just for themselves.
Thank you for reminding me it has been far too long since I've played that game!

I too read faster then average, always have. Even when I was 5 years old I was reading as a 7 - 8, when I was 9 I was reading at 14.
Haven't done a reading test of that type since, but back when I did go to school I always got through the page of a book either first or second, depending on if that one ultra smart kid was around.
By ultra smart, I'm speaking honest to god, he was the top student of the yeargroup and perhaps of the school (or at the very least, in the top 5-10 of the school.)
So yeah, not bad really. Even still, I prefer to take my time rather then rushing to the end like I could do.
Also, by taking my time, I'm a lot more capable of thinking about what's happening in the story and making a nice review over it for Somber.
...even if my reviews are crappy.
