It went great, it got off the ground, it did not explode and while it may not have reached escape velocity, or not been space worthy in the least and was totally uncontrolled... aside from those... minor issues the launch was a complete success.Aonee wrote:Did you see the one where the tried to repurpose a Robin as a spacecraft? @Sindri: (mucus membrane) Well, I'm not 100 %, but I know it gets you drunk fast as murloc. But yeah, it depends on the medicine/drug I guess.
@Kipper: (spoiler) Somehow my common sense told me you'd be one to say that
@Robo: (mucus membrane) Oh hush now, you know you like it.
@Everypony: (Medicine) Was quite interesting, didn't look too much into it, but they seemed neat. At least the first one, didn't look into the other enough to know what it was about heh.
Also, why do people seem so annoyed in Magic TCG when I just disenchant, dust to dust, naturalize and overall destroy target artefact, ALL the permanents, even land using my liquidmetal coating's?

Wherever you look, whenever there's a dumb one-liner, I'll be there. Wherever there's an obvious punchline going unsaid, I'll be there. I'll be there in the way people explain jokes, and when there's a stupid pun to make and nobody's making it, I'll be there too...Sindri wrote:I'm impressed, guys; we managed to go a whole four and a half hours without saying that.

I've played an artifact deck against someone who could tap to destroy target artifact, so I never got anything out. I can see why people could get upset, but I learned from it and now have several varieties of blue counter-spell cards. Nobody has ever destroyed all my permanents before, though.Kattlarv wrote:

I knew a Rene. Nice guy. But neither Pinkamena nor Zecora will get them through life without mockery, so you aren't even giving them the option to use the middle name.Cptadder wrote:All names are better than Renesmee including calling your son or daughter any one of a dozen lovely four letter profanities.Valikdu wrote:

Yeah, as a general rule anybody who tries to name their child something cute or "unique" is kinda screwing them over later in life. 'John' might not be funny, but it'll never be a problem.

I dunno, Pinkamena at least sounds normal enough. Sure, she'll probably get saddled with a weird nickname like "Pink" or something, and will probably just introduce herself as such, but compared to poor Optimus, Dovakhiin, and anyone named after an elf from the Lord of the Rings, it's not bad. There will probably be foreign children with weirder names in her classes who'll get picked on instead. >_>

Accept the fact that your child will be picked on school, it's going to happen at least until you get your kid some MMA classes and he or she gets expelled because some kid taunted him/her and he/she put someone face through a desk.
Kids today don't have it anywhere as near as easy as my generation. Pick a fight? Then it's throwndown time, long as no bones were broken you walk it off and go back to class. I got more time of for fucking swearing than I did for the time I went two on one with two classmates and had the fight won until it became became three on one and unlike the other two the third kid could fight not just copy what he had seen on TV and I'll be blunt one on one I would have lost vs him because he had a six inches and twenty pounds on me.
Anyway if you can't tell I love segueing to random stories like with poor Pinky she was a great girl but I've heard some bad names in my time, something that only seems to afflict certain nationalities. At least the trend for awhile in the late 70s early 80s to name you kid after his homeland went away. Sure Albert is going to get his ass kicked but you can call him Al, what the heck do you call poor Kwaku?
This of course never applies to Germanic/Nordic names as any number of Axel, Kurt, Marco, Max, Otto, Steffen, Viktors can tell you.
But pitty the poor Ruperts.

Children these days don't know any discipline. They get a strong looking at and its over, just like that. No repercussions. The anti-bullying programs are complete and utter garbage, because they don't actually care. Not that anyone actually behaves in school. Well, I do, but nobody else seems to.

They do serve one purpose, at least in my case. I learned subtlety. No authority cares about the bullying, but they react immediately and excessively to any visible attempt at retaliation. So I learned to retaliate in ways that would never be seen or believed.ketchup504 wrote:Children these days don't know any discipline. They get a strong looking at and its over, just like that. Mind games, mysterious injuries that nobody saw appear and could never be conclusively linked to me, resources on which they rely being misplaced or presented to inconvenient authorities, certain unfortunate evidence of crimes they did not commit coming to light, occasional clerical errors affecting their records in unfavorable ways... all manner of skills which weren't easy to learn, but very useful and applicable to many situations later in life. Better to learn them when I had time, and a decade of very good motivation.
It's educational to others too; if picking on as obvious a victim as myself caused so much bad luck, what could others do to them? Better to be decent to people.
Disclaimer: My methods are unlikely to work for most situations, and many of them are morally questionable at best. Do not do what I do.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I have a question for anyone who knows a whole lot about weapons. Can you really spin up a minigun without firing, like in TF2, or does the action of spinning the barrels automatically include firing and/or ejecting rounds? Surely not, or there'd be no way to spin it down without firing for a few more seconds, right? (Or does this differ from gun to gun?)
Now, suppose you disconnected the motor from a minigun. Could you (well, BJ) stick down the trigger, then rotate the barrels by telekinesis and cause it to fire? Or does it need electric power for functions other than rotating the barrels?

And that sounds like a swell idea, but again, probably depends on the weapon.
Gatling guns with the ejection port on a static part would probably work, but ones with ejection ports on motorized parts might not. If those exist.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
I admit to not being sure, but the integration of the firing, brass ejection, and reloading with the rotation of the barrels leads me to believe you can't spin without firing, at least not while loaded. To do otherwise would require disconnecting the ammo feed from the barrels when spinning up, and reconnecting it while they were in motion (or wasting hundreds of rounds by just spitting them out unfired). I think that real miniguns just don't take anywhere near as long to spin up or down as video games claim. And since they're generally used as vehicular or support weapons instead of running and gunning, the start and stop times wouldn't matter much anyway; you don't use a minigun for a snap shot against a sudden opponent, you use it to suppress an area, disable a light vehicle, or mow down a group of visible soldiers.silentcarto wrote:

See, in my experience what says "nice" to a rational person says "victim" to a bully, and "gay" to most normals. Not to mention that being nice to everybody would require pretending to be friends with a lot of people who are honestly just assholes. I'm polite to anyone who isn't hostile already, and always cheerful and courteous toward authority figures (it associates you in their subconscious with honesty and goodness), but asking me to be friends toward the 90% of people who aren't worth knowing is too much.swicked wrote:While it wasn't MY way of dealing with bullying, my best suggestion would be to just try and be personable. In fact, smiling a lot in general tends to improve any social situation. It's not much, but it definitely helps.

And yeah, I'm trying to go by real world experience, not video games. I know that they usually don't start up until you start firing, but I'm wondering if there's a button to spin the barrels anyway.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Let me put it this way. I have received one detention in my life. It was when somebody threw a rock at my head. A jagged rock about the size of a softball; if I had failed to dodge I would have had a concussion if not grey goo on the street, as is I got a nasty gash across my forehead. There were dozens of witnesses, including two teachers, and they were never officially punished while I was. My choices were between utterly subservient, probably dead, or scary. I picked scary.swicked wrote:My, you are some kind of badass, aren't you?
Well, it should be easy to disconnect the ammo feed when it's winding down and reconnect when it stops, and that might save lives. But I don't see any purpose to spinning up without firing, and it seems very difficult from a mechanical perspective.SilentCarto wrote:Well, a M134 Minigun takes about half a second to spin up, but it clearly doesn't fire while spinning down: MythbustersSindri wrote:I think that real miniguns just don't take anywhere near as long to spin up or down as video games claim.

It gets better later in life. Depending on where you go, high school is almost always better than early grades just because you have more people around (and thus the 10% that are worth knowing go from maybe a couple to dozens of people), and almost everybody is getting more mature. College is an even bigger step up, since the worst people are actually starting to get arrested, and almost everybody there has some interest in actually learning the material. And outside in the "real world" politeness actually becomes the rule rather than the exception if you stick to the right circles, and most forms of bullying you can get somebody put in prison for. So stick it out, only resort to extreme measures if you need to and you have a plan to get away with them, and content yourself with the knowledge that you'll never have to deal with these people again in a few short years.ketchup504 wrote:Being polite is a pretty simple courtesy that people seem to forget. Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Not easy enough, apparently. According to this page, the M134 requires power to feed fresh rounds to the gun. To load the gun, "...you brought the ammo and link to the mouth of the feeder-delinker and turned the barrel cluster by hand. The internal gearing would turn the feeder-delinker. You continued turning until a link fell out. This indicated the gun was loaded and ready to feed. However, the gun would not permit the live rounds to go from the feeder-delinker to the gun unless the feed solenoid was powered. When the solenoid engaged, it tripped the feed pawl which allowed the ammunition to transit to the gun for firing." He goes on to say that the delinker spits out 8-12 live rounds during spin-down since it can't feed them to the gun. So that answers that, I guess. You can't fire it just by turning the barrel, but you COULD if you held (or glued) the solenoid closed while you did it. The good news is that the trigger isn't really involved, it's just an electrical switch.Sindri wrote:Well, it should be easy to disconnect the ammo feed when it's winding down and reconnect when it stops, and that might save lives. But I don't see any purpose to spinning up without firing, and it seems very difficult from a mechanical perspective.
As a side note, the predecessor M61 Vulcan lacked that safety feature, so it would fire every round that entered the weapon while it spun down -- or was rotated by hand.
