Gotta love it when you look up an artist, find their 'clean' gallery and then go to their tumblr and get buried by clop.
So long as it's good quality and at least half-way believeable, I don't really mind.
The level of detail some writers go into anatomically correct horse heat cycles scares me....
At least you gotta give 'em points for being thorough

I'm always astounded by this fandom's ability to generate shitstorms. It's large part of the reason why I've kinda stopped following a lot of what goes on outside of the show and the fanfics/artists I enjoy. I don't agree with what he did (I prefer to keep real-world politics distinct from my ponies), nor do I fully agree with the fanbase's hyperbolic reaction (I don't think he should have been fired). It's a lot like whole Derpy thing back in S2, only this time I'm not really emotionally invested.
Eh, it's hard for me to not think he should have expected it. He works in the entertainment industry, the things you say can reflect on your employers. This wouldn't be the first time someone was fired for similar reasons. Really he should have known better.

So, I've been reading Worm recently. Holy shit is it good. I haven't seen escalation this fast since Kaizo Mario, and the characters are goddamn fantastic. I'm a little more than a million words into it, which means that I've got the equivalent of another Fallout Equestria before I hit the end. This coupled with the author's plans to make Pact just as long means that the ride never ends.

Worm is a massive and awesome superhero serial that you can read here. It's basically what happens when you combine well-thought-out superhero deconstruction, some really great writing, a massive cast of complex and sympathetic characters, and some crazily awesome battles. It's awesome. It also really seems like X-Men for the first few chapters, but it really starts to shine once you get into it.Last wrote:What is worm? I've heard it mentioned a few times. Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
It's a web serial about a world where people started gaining superpowers. Start reading here. The story is set in an alternate 2011, about 30 years after the first appearance of a 'cape' (someone with powers), so enough time for major shit to go down and everyone to get used to the idea of 'capes' running around. The protagonist and usual viewpoint is a 15 year old girl who has the power to control bugs. One of the main themes of the story is that minor/unimpressive powers can be a lot more powerful/useful than more powerful or direct attack ones (having the ability to summon mini suns is cool, but the only thing you can do with it is melt stuff). Oh, and in case the initial high school bullying situation turns you off (I know it did for me the first time I tried to read it), it moves on from that very quickly (the 5th arc-ish).Last wrote:What is worm? Considering that we seem to share taste in quite a bit of media (it was after reading Ava's Demon that I recognized your Wrathia avatar) I'll likely look into it when I get the chance--so, perhaps when NIE is in full swing and we're just sitting there between "missions".

When I was first starting out, I remember being a little disappointed when they first encountered Lung because I thought he was too massively overpowered to be anything less than the primary antagonist and I find him kind of boring. AND THEN WILDBOW TOPPED HIM. AND THEN TOPPED THE THING THAT TOPPED HIM.stringtheory wrote:AND IT DOESN'T EVER STOP! Yay! Like stringtheory said, when it starts out, it seems like its going to be one of those generic "bullied high school loner power-fantasy" backstories that are really common in superhero fiction, but then it rapidly spirals into awesome.Mister Frost wrote:Considering that we seem to share taste in quite a bit of media (it was after reading Ava's Demon that I recognized your Wrathia avatar) I'll likely look into it when I get the chance--so, perhaps when NIE is in full swing and we're just sitting there between "missions".

I've gotten to the first interlude and I'm curious. Wondering if there's room for the main character's (If the story has given her a name yet I don't remember it at all) powers to grow, or if she'll simply use what she has in creative ways.
Thinking about her powers it seems like she has the ability to make supervillians miserable, cockroaches don't seem to be anything new to the villiany part of town I've seen so far. But I'm sure the supervillians must have some level of luxury that she could ruin with a healthy dose of bed bugs, lice and ticks.

Aye. One of the things that Worm does quite well is show just how a lot of the more seemingly useless powers can be among the most useful as long as you're creative enough, while, say, the ability to create a massive mecha of fire would only be useful in fire-mecha-related context. Without getting too specific, let's just say that Taylor's ability to control arthropods is extremely useful as she gains more knowledge and experience.Last wrote:I've gotten to the first interlude and I'm curious. How big a mecha we talking here?
Hm...looking at Avante's work...typical large breast and hip preference.
Pretty sure some would argue that the waists are too thin on some of his pieces - found one with wonky arm anatomy as well, but some of the arts are pretty.
