Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Haaaaaah, finally hammered out another 5000 word chapter
Now to fine tune it and have my wife pick it to pieces
and then added in another 200-500 words because I have to allow glimpses into my characters pasts, which requires me to more or less write out the entire plot from the game I am referencing
*siiiiiighs*
Because crossovers are fuuuuunnnnn

Re: EA
Hence the "No one was surprised" line. I am not sure that EA actually puts out good things, more like take over existing good things and butcher IPs into "fun sized" pieces. Now I am just scared for Mirror's Edge 2. How would you nickel and dime an open-world free-running game anyways? Chop up story-mode? Between EA's monetizing policy and the decision to put Anita onto the story board, I might just have to not grab the game.

Few 'exclusive-day-one-dlc-skins-and-boost' sort of things. Then they would sell some fancy skins/clothes and, more likely, alt. characters.

Ah, okay; thanks.Tytan wrote:I dunno. I guess I just kinda imagined you looking kinda bookish. Kinda wiry and skinny. But I imagined you having hair sorta like the main character from Atlantis but much darker brown.
Thanks! I have been told before that I look good in a longcoat. Imagine if they were selling chunks of the city in DLC sized pieces.
At this point, it would not be a far cry from anything.

Aye. I hate their business practices, but I'm still stuck with the fact that they bought some of my favorite devs.Tytan wrote:Because they actually put out good shit.
It'd be better shit if they didn't chop it to bits and try to sell it to us for five bucks a piece, but still.

Does anyone even know what a straw man is? The way that I've seen it used lately leads me to believe that the people that use it think it's the get out of jail free card of arguments.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
It's a fallacy used in arguements. Basically it's trying to defeat another persons argument by talking about a similar issue.
A: Sunny days are good.
B: If all days were sunny, we'd never have rain, and without rain, we'd have famine and death.

Actually, it's more like turning your opponent's argument into an easily defeatable version, example: "The NRA supports the right to bear arms, so they support private ownership of nuclear weapons."Tytan wrote:It's a fallacy used in arguements. A straw man is a target set up with beliefs and evidence that is easily refutable. Much like a cardboard cutout at a shooting range, the target is given no opportunity to fight back. Poor debaters use these or paint people as such in order to bash almost without repurcussion, because the arguments they set up for the opposing side are very weak. This is why in early debate they teach you to view things from the other side as well thoroughly.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
I know what it is Ty, I was saying the way I'm seeing it used is essentially this:
Argument: "Blah blah blah."
Counter argument: "Blah blah blah."
Response to counter argument: "STRAW MAN!11111111!"
Leading me to believe the person who responded to the counter argument has no idea what that means. Of course that's a bad example because it was all blahs.
What I'm seeing lately are people who are claiming to understand an argument well enough to recognize a strawman (They didn't look that way to me) but at the same time proving that they didn't understand by not being able to explain why the counter argument is a strawman. They just act like the word (phrase, term, whatever) is the equivalent of yelling "Yahtzee!" or "Blackjack!".

@Strawman
What SK said, with an addendum: part of why this has come up so much is because people are taking actual quotes and arguments made by actual people that are still effectively strawmen because the people represent themselves and their arguments so poorly. This is one of the reasons why debate is problematic on the internet: yes, you should argue against the strongest version of someone's argument, not their weakest, but if you haven't actually HEARD a strong version of an argument, that becomes difficult... and then opens you up to accusations of strawman. That's my take, anyway.

It's not like they can do anything about it since it doesn't exist

Imagine if Police stopped cars with blue shells. Roads in winter time would be a lot more interesting. Hell, my friends and I would probably go out into the cold just to watch for an inevitable pile-up.
