Also, here small attempt to make BJ's smiles from existing MLP smile-o-pack (most made from re-colored DJ-PON3):
Actually this work better be done by serious artist (to add more "BlackJackness") but i'm far from it; hope it fun anyway .

Ah, thank you. I guess that the person saying that they'd not found any that went past 58 just wasn't aware of it. Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Just read the chapter! Been without internet for a couple days on account of a storm (that hit where I'm currently staying, not my home, happily).
- Spoiler:
My initial thought was that this was the kind of chapter I tend to like best, one without much in the way of action, but then I remembered that the fight with Hades happened, as did the brief clash with Silver Stripe and Silver Stripe Mk. II. So I guess it was just a good chapter without pandering to my tastes in dialogue-and-character-without-much-plot. :P Seriously, though, I quite enjoyed this. Was a bum and read it on the beach (downloaded it to an e-reader) while getting sunburned and chatting with family.
Anyway, high points! I really liked the levels of mortality and "humanity" that were subtly stuck in this one. Whether or not you believe that cybernetics would have a profound effect on a consciousness (I happen to think they often would), the book says that they do in this universe, and the emphasis on Blackjack's feelings of weariness, impatience, and sick worry were a fantastic nod to her being back in a fully-organic body. Could easily also be related to the loss of her cutie mark. I could be reading too much into things, but I don't think I am.
Let's see, what else? Great way to end. Obviously. It's kind of textbook, but it's textbook 'cos it works.
Loved the imposter/cosplayer ponies. It was a very cute touch, and something about it felt entirely PH; it was like a nerdy reference in a Dresden files book, or, for a classier comparison, someone reaching orgasm in a Joyce book. Yes, much classier. Oh, when I say cute, I mean something akin to "clever, but in an adorable rather than guileful way," not as in childish or what-have-you.
Thought including the new Element-bearers was a risky but sensible move. The way fate works in Equestria, Fallen Out or not, would seem to demand that they appear during a crisis of this magnitude. And this (and the original) are, at heart, fairly romantic stories, more kin to Tolkien than George R. R. Martin. For this reason, I think that they had to turn up.
Uh, ayuh! Dunno what else to say. Been a while since I wrote up a truly lengthy review of one of these episodes, I think, and this ain't one, but I did quite enjoy this one, and am greatly looking forward to the reunion with the rest of the gang. Gonna have a look-see at that bandcamp page, see if any of the songs look like they might be my kind of thing and all that. Cheers, Somber, and cheers to the editing team, too!

Okay, finally have a chance to read this. Sorry for the delay.
- Chapter 68 Commentary:
Oh. Huh. Hmm. Robots are generally more efficient, since you don't have to feed them, maintain pressure, or deal with sanitation... though I guess magic talismans offset a lot of those issues.“Instead of trying to send actual personnel to the moon,” Goldenblood began, “who could have learned of Horizons and disabled it, we programmed the mechasprites to build a Tree of Life and cybernetics facilities.”
Ah. Well, yes, that would be a reason to use living things. I'm a little surprised that a soulless clone can use magic, though, since Sanguine indicated that unicorn magic is a projection of the soul."Unicorn Flux clones," he said, rather annoyed. "The mechasprites built the gun. We used the clones to enact rituals uncovered by Rarity in the course of Project Eternity."
Uh. Thaaat's... creepy... especially since we know it's not Celestia or Luna.I expected more of a struggle, but the spirit seemed to allow itself to be placed in the stone.
...Faust? :D
What.“I know what you’re going to do! Who you are going to serve!”
Huh. Is that really all there is to this?...“There’s been no lack of people claiming to know the events of the future. The sick. The odd. The alien. The mad. All are rumored to have insights that most ponies scoff at.”
Ah, but that runs afoul of BJ's other maxim. "Security saves ponies." The job of the law enforcer, essentially, is to inflict violence to protect the helpless. Not to determine punishments for past crimes or destroy those who are likely to commit crimes in the future. It's not a difference of what, but of why.“You decide that ponies deserve to die all the time. The ponies you’ve killed didn’t throw themselves on your bullets. You chose to shoot them. You could have run. You could have surrendered. Instead, you resorted to violence. You might call it ‘self defense’ but your self defense is exceptionally hazardous to those who challenge it.”
This would actually be a pretty badass look, if not for the ponyhide armor. What is it with evil people and wearing skin?My white hide was wrapped not in cybernetic plating but in dyed-black Security armor stitched to a ponyhide base. More scars crossed my skin, and my mane lay a little more chopped and wild. A pair of mirrored shades covered my eyes, reflecting the world back at him, and they gleamed along with the pair of hoofcuffs on my belt. A well-used security baton hung at my side, and I levitated up the pump-action shotgun and pointed it at his face.
Huh. Suggesting that BJ's virtue is Justice?“This is me as an executioner, Goldenblood. Corrupted justice,” I said in a low, rough sneer.
Smart Pony Powers, activate!“Very astute,” he said with a small nod. “You really are good at this,” he continued with a gesture at the emptiness all around us. “But then, you’ve probably had more practice in mindscapes than any pony since Princess Luna.”
I think the correct answer is "no". She was Princess Luna and Nightmare Moon. Nightmare Moon wasn't some separate entity from Princess Luna -- Luna was the one declaring that "There can only be one princess in Equestria, and that princess... will be me!" in Princess Twilight Sparkle, part 1. It's ultimately pointless to draw the line between the two -- they're two faces of the same individual, just like Superman and Clark Kent.“Was she Princess Luna, or Nightmare Moon?”
He sighed, closing his eyes. “That is the question.”
Uh oh. Last time that happened, the available unit was Charm. Does this mean something just downloaded into Cogjack?Conducting a remote transfer to an available mobile unit.
Finally a little payback for all the hours of frustration, huh?I chewed, his annoyance was as delicious as the contents of my bottle.
Gunmetal, duh...“So what’s my metal?” I asked. “What’s my value?”
Yes, because Stygius worked out so very well for your other relationships, and that was with the excuse that you didn't know better.“Well, I did just save his daughter from a spectral ghost, his wife likes me, and I banged his son pretty good not too long ago. Maybe his daughter soon, too.”
Actually, I believe it's the first time since she got alicornicated. Lack of expressive eyes, and all that.I shut him down with a look. It was the first time I’d given that look since Cognitum had torn my cutie mark away. It was the perfect blend of overconfidence and malice sprinkled with just the right amount of mad audacity, soaked masterfully in ethanol. My shooty look.
Also, yaaaaay! It may be a bad idea as often as good, but there's something satisfying about cutting through political bullshit with a manic grin and a gun to the crotch.
It occurs to me that Hades has never, in his life, battled a unicorn.“Now. This oblivion thingy. Is it instant?” He shook his head. “Quick as you teleporting?” A slower, more unsure shake of his head. “A second or so to go off?” He paused, thought, then gave a tiny little nod.
To be fair, it does. The whole thing had a gothic motif and looked like it belonged in a different millennium.
...Riku? Is that you?His huge sword resembled a great black bat’s wing.
Welp. No point in surrendering, then.“And husband? Your terms?”
The question shook him from his embarrassment. “Her life!” the stallion said, pointing the sword at me dramatically.
Ah. Victory by ring-out. Um... hey BJ, how good are you at teleporting other people?Any who leave the circle of moonlight will forfeit. Begin.
Pfffthahaha! He apparently also hasn't battled anyone who fought dirty. The blow bit three quarters of the way through the wooden haft, and Hades sneered at me. “You shall regret your foolish and presumpt–”
I spit my mouthful of whiskey right in his eyes.
Like I said... not used to fighting unicorns. No, he brought his sword right through the spinning glass. Time seemed to crawl a moment as it shattered into a dozen glistening shards. Glowing shards…
That I directed straight into his eyes.
Oops.Persephone gaped at me in horror, as if recognizing me for the first time. “It was on… the crown.”
Oh! Well, that works too. Welcome to the real world, population everyone.Suddenly, everything in the room inverted color, and I stared around in bewilderment as I struggled to breathe with the broken ribs. A moment later, the room returned to normal. One by one, the fields of energy dissipated, and nopony dared move. Then I heard it.
Rain. Rain on the roof.
(At this point my notations get pretty sparse, because I can't type when I'm clinging to the edge of my seat.)
...huh. Was NOT expecting that.“Y’hal talsh ta much,” a stallion drawled in a muddled voice from the doorway. A heavily bandaged brown pegasus in a floppy black hat pointed the largest rifle in existence at where the cyber unicorn’s torso still stood.
Hail, hail, the gang's all here! Not that I didn't expect her to be with Velvet and Calamity, but... anyway.“I think that’s my fault,” a mare said from the doorway. The dusky gray mare with the striped blue mane gave a slightly sheepish smile as she walked into the lab.
Hehe. That's quite a statement! One of them was even mine... gosh, fifty thousand caps dead, a hundred thousand alive. Those were the days... ‘Not worth it’ was written in red ink across my face.
Need next chapter need next chapter need next chapter...Then there were tears springing down her cheeks as she screamed at top of her lungs, “Get out!”
Not much to say this time around. Silver Stripe's real allegiance was a bit of a surprise, but my reaction was mostly, "Well, that kinda makes sense. I don't know why I'm even surprised anymore." I've been suspicious of her ever since we found out about the eye transmission, anyway.
Mostly, I'm just eating this up with a spoon.
- Editing:
"among" should be "along with".That, among other lore she’d confiscated from libraries and zebras all across Equestria, allowed us to work out how to make the blanks draw in a star spirit and bind it to the stone.
"Ones" should be "one". It's the same "one" you would use if you replaced the phrase with "someone so young".“You can’t do anything for her?” colt-Goldenblood asked with a resigned sadness I’d rarely encountered in ones so young.
This strikes my ear oddly. It should be "as many poppy tears" or "as much of the poppy tears", or being a little more poetic, "as much of the tears of the poppy".“We’ve given as much poppy tears as we can,”
"settled for"I would have started killing ponies I thought deserved it, but eventually I would have settled with killing anypony who pissed me off.
and hisI chewed, his annoyance was as delicious as the contents of my bottle.
Well... technically, the way Spike said it was, "The portal to hell is opened with the incantation of good intentions." But that might be a unicorn/earth pony thing.“What do they say about good intentions? The road to hell is paved with them, right?”
I'm gettingI getting back to Glory.
This isn't a correction, but the "black gothic armor" "with a gothic motif" is pretty repetitive. I'd just dump "had a gothic motif" -- using "had" as the main verb in a sentence like this comes off really weak, anyway. He'd donned resplendent black gothic armor topped with a silver crown set with a huge black jewel. The whole thing had a gothic motif and looked like it belonged in a different millennium.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Somber posted a new story over on fimfiction. It's only one chapter so far, but it's also gotten the usual fimfic luck of criminally low views (55 so far).
BTW, can we get a little spam going to EqD to post that Club Mixers album? I think it's where it will get the most visibility and they're much more likely to post something the more people send it in. Just shoot an email to Submit@equestriadaily.com I've sent in a few things that they've posted before and it's completely painless.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Duly spammed. On "Broken Accords," and its view count, I suspect that it's a case of not having much of a follower base there, and of those he does have, I wouldn't be surprised if many are low-quality in terms of conversion into views for new stories, being either more interested in Project Horizons updates or reposts of old work. Hopefully there will be some signal boosting, but that could take a while.Derpmind wrote:Somber posted a new story over on fimfiction. UPDATE: I just got an email from EQD saying that the album will be included in the next album post.

I don't really mind not having a lot of views on my writings on FiMFiction
Let's see...
34 views, 5/3 like/dislike, 3 comments, two by the same person and one by me replying to him...
GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME!
I write in Fragments, so it's hard to form a story out of 'em...oh well
I'm sure there'll be a large influx of people getting 44 music tracks for $7, that's practically a steal

This came up in the discussion, I believe. Basically, yes, in the long term, it would have been more efficient to design robots that could cast the spell. That would have taken longer and been more expensive in the short term, however, and that was judged to be more important. Particularly since that extra time and resource requirement would have made it more difficult to keep the Project hidden.SilentCarto wrote:Oh. Huh. Hmm. Edit: Blackjack ought to change her name back to Go Fish, and wonder off into the wasteland rediscovering her "roots" (you know beating the %^*# out of raiders and the like). After regaining her notoriety and hopefully some allies, she can stage a coup, and take down Cogs, then reveal her "true" identity.

- Critical flaw:
- Blackjack's Special Talent is literally described as victory no matter the cost. While it more or less guarantees she'll survive, it doesn't extend to those around her (or rather in this case IN her) nor does it mean she'll come out in one piece
I guess what I'm afraid of is that becoming the final kicker before the end, I just want Bjackjack to get her

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Just read the first chapter of Broken Accords and found a couple issues, but still enjoyed it, that said I found my self to lazy to create a new account elsewhere, and figured I'd just post 'em here.
Regardless, I enjoyed the story a great deal, and it help cope with the cliffhanger of ch. 68

calls?Broken Accords Ch. 1 wrote:"...We don’t get call for crazy weather flying out in Ponyville… ever."
At times the tense felt off, like the majority of the story was originally written in first person, then the "I"s were changed to "she"s, though it retracted little from the work.

You always say "...in (or for) one so young". It's a set phrase. The "one" in this context is Goldie. It's unusual to see such sadness in a person, singular, as young as him; in one (who is) so young.O. Hinds wrote:Hm… I'm sorry, but that just doesn't sound right to me.SilentCarto wrote:"Ones" should be "one". It's the same "one" you would use if you replaced the phrase with "someone so young".
You're darn right it changes the meaning -- because it currently means the wrong thing. "Settle with" means "come to an agreement". Are you seriously saying BJ would have come to an agreement with people to kill them?O. Hinds wrote:Hm. I think that that changes the meaning. Sorry.SilentCarto wrote:"settled for"
Yeah, I meant to come back and add a line there that while robots could have built the weapon more efficiently, they wouldn't have been able to enact the spells, so it makes sense again.O. Hinds wrote:This came up in the discussion, I believe. Huh. Hmm. Robots are generally more efficient, since you don't have to feed them, maintain pressure, or deal with sanitation... though I guess magic talismans offset a lot of those issues.
Being a Reaper doesn't mean you HAVE to wear the skin of people you killed. Rampage doesn't.O. Hinds wrote:Well, the ponyhide would be because of the Reaper thing.SilentCarto wrote:This would actually be a pretty badass look, if not for the ponyhide armor. What is it with evil people and wearing skin?
It makes sense in some specific cases, like taking advantage of the usefulness of dragonhide, but mostly it's just gross.
Hehehe. Rasputin didn't really take an unusual amount of killing -- the legend can mostly be chalked up to amateur assassins who seemed to think a gunshot instantly stopped all biological functions, followed by other amateurs who didn't know how to burn a body. (PROTIP: Always cut the tendons.)Rayndalf wrote:It just occurred to me that Blackjack out "rasputined" Rasputin chapters ago...

Well, I still don't like it, but I guess that I'd better make the change.
Hm. Then they're both wrong, I think. I'll see what I can come up with.SilentCarto wrote:You're darn right it changes the meaning -- because it currently means the wrong thing. Oh, robots could have cast the spells, but the technology for that would have had to have been developed.SilentCarto wrote:Yeah, I meant to come back and add a line there that while robots could have built the weapon more efficiently, they wouldn't have been able to enact the spells, so it makes sense again.
Hm, point, but I'd say that it makes sense. Sure, Rampage, Gorgon, and Psychoshy didn't wear the armor, but Rampage was unkillable, Gorgon had natural armor, and armor didn't really fit Psychoshy's character. For Reaper!Security, on the other hoof, armor is both practical and part of the character.SilentCarto wrote:Being a Reaper doesn't mean you HAVE to wear the skin of people you killed. Sooo, hi! Long time lurker, Huge Fan of MLP, both the originals and FIM. And I love, love Project Horizons, even better than Fallout Equestria.
I hope this hasn't already been answered, I couldn't find it but these threads move so quickly, so if it has, smack my hoof and call me a bad newb.

- Question About Whisper:
- She was bonded to blank of herself, correct? so her constant orgies with Sty wont result in a kid because Blanks are sterile, as said by Cogs and Confirmed by Goldie

I believe that that's not the case. She was delivered prematurely, and kept in stasis by Sanguine in case he ever had a use for her (extortion, what have you), but she wasn't ever moved to a clone body. She can probably conceive, carry, and deliver a child.

Re: [GRIMDARK] Fallout Equestria: Project Horizons Discussion
Hmmmm, this is what trueblood said in chapter 39, but I could be reading it wrong:
“Yes. I built the first stasis pod prototype myself, in my garage actually, just as Chimera was set up for Fluttershy… so that nopony would ever have to go through what she did. I don’t know what happened between them; he was always so cool around her that it never occurred to me they were in a relationship. We perfected the stasis pods, so we thought; I should have been rich from the invention... but ah well. Then came fusion spells to improve on ponies. Blanks were introduced last as a source of organs and test material. I was able to fuse the infant with a healthy pegasus blank of her own body, and that stabilized her enough to survive.”

Sorry, my mistake. I'm not sure how this would affect her reproductive capacity.
Also, should that be "clone" instead of "blank," since the blanks were not templated to anyone's genetics?

The terms seem to be used interchangeably, trueblood called the clones of his family, scotch tape, and BJ blanks.

If it hadn't been, Psychoshy would still be an infant or would require constant surgeries as she grew and her blank parts didn't.
That seriously doesn't make any sense. Not growing is the same as being dead. Your skin cells are constantly dying and being regrown. As you eat food you grow some fatty tissues, and they eventually get broken down. Blood gets replenished and wounds heal over. You can use whatever handwavy reason for Ghouls you want, but considering that the Blanks were harvested for organ implants in completely normal ponies, that explanation just doesn't work out.

I think that what he's saying is that they don't grow in terms of aging. A blank comes out fully grown, already matured. It's not going to go through natural aging processes like puberty.
