Mm, avant garde black metal is some good shit (sometimes). Haven't listened to much of them, but Paracletus was an ad nauseum repeat album for me a while back. If you're looking for more somewhat horrifying music, the band Darkspace's music is wall of sound drone-y black metal dedicated to the Lovecraftian horror of space. Link. And of course Mayhem - good ol' Mayhem! - is now working mostly in the avant garde area. Link.

I guess the magic wasn't meant to last forever. The program came out in friggin '02, after all.

When I said that track was horrifying, I meant I jumped out of my skin. I wasn't even wearing headphones. I knew that the music was going to shift, I just didn't know exactly when. It's like knowing that a friend of yours is hiding somewhere in the house, waiting to spook you, and then you walk past the closet out of which he abruptly jumps out at you. Don't get me wrong, I am not complaining. Far from it. If a song can make me react so strongly, then I'm listening to more of such works.

Because the Intel HD 3000 integrated "graphics card" is a piece of shit. Also Fallout 3 is very strict about requirements apparently... you need pixel shader 2.0 and apparently intel hd 3000 'cards' can only fake it, which isn't good enough for Fallout 3, but is for New Vegas.

Realizing the limitations and mindsets of ponies is making the Metal/FoE fall into place a little easier. Having too many options can be confusing. Anyway, I think that it would make sense if most extreme metal (read: genres with fast tempos) was played by unicorns, since only they have similar if not the same dexterity to human hands. Things like Death Metal, Black Metal, Progressive Metal, and Experimental Metal take a lot of technical expertise to play properly, and even more to make it sound good. That's my major thoughts on that for now.

I'm pretty sure any Doom Metal band playing a mid-tempo song would love to have a drummer like that to accent those rolling bass lines. Though, in a way it seems like something that Strapping Young Lad would attempt, because that maneuver would make the drummer look as if he's doing the "Help Me, I'm Drowning" dance on stage.

I imagine that Symphonic Metal would be quite popular, especially with any upper-class fans. I'm trying to build off of the music that Equestria had before the war, such as the orchestral stuff. I believe I recall one pony having a fiddle...
