Seriously, after High School, all the degrees and qualifications I have, I literally got paid to pass them (apprenticeship, 2 weeks in school and 2 weeks at work). Even right now, I'm getting paid more than a number of civilians with a full time job simply being trained to do my future job.

So I often forget how hard it actually is to get a post-secondary education for the majority of people.

And I can't help being appalled at the thought of people in the US or in most of the rest of the world who have to subscribe to a debt that will follow them most of their life just to get an education, while on my side I gained money to do so.

What degrees and qualifications do you have, exactly?

I have a Brevet de Technicien Supérieur (BTS, Superior Technician Certificate) in "Information Technology & Networking for the Industry" (rough translation of the French title), that I did in apprenticeship (alternating 2 weeks at school and 2 weeks in a publicly held bus transportation business) ;

And a Professional Licence (Licence Professionnelle) in Embedded Systems, that I prepared under the same conditions as the BTS, but with the French Atomic Energy Commission as the business in which I did my apprenticeship.

All in all, 3 years of formation after High School, corresponding roughly to a Licence in the European Licence-Master-Doctorate scheme (respectively +3/+5/+8 years after High School).


And currently I'm training to become an NCO in the French Air Force.

Also, excuse me if I'm wrong, but are you Sys. Administrator / Network Administrator (judging from your certificate)?

I could have become, yes. Though I wouldn't have been really good at it, and my later Professional Licence oriented me more toward becoming a designer in embedded software & applications.

Well, my diploma says I'm security specialist. Now I work as Sys/Network administrator and thinking about switching to making programs.

Um..to be precise on java and php. I know php a little and will start going on training about java.

And no, I'm not aiming to get good results or get good salary right of the bat. just junior developer.

Part of the reason why I didn't want to become a Sys/Network admin was that I feared the work would be freaking dull and ungratifying. So I can understand why you would want to change that to become a software designer.

What kind of experience / qualifications do you have in that field ?

What is it, in your career path, that you learned English for, anyway?
I mean, USA high schools require students to take at least one non-english language, but you appear to have put quite a lot into learning it in order to score high on an "official English test".

I just... I kind of grew up exposed to English: When I was little we had the UK edition of Cartoon Network on the satellite TV, which I avidly watched, then there was the videogames, and later the Internet came down from the skies to me.

I've just sucked in the language like a sponge.

Interestingly enough, a large part of what helped me practice my English was internet forums, and reading fanfiction

Yup. Pretty much this for me..and that I've learned English from 3rd grade    But mostly fanfictions.

I've studied English in school since the first year of Middle School, but to be honest, the way foreign languages are taught in France is so shitty that most people come out of learning English during 7 years (the 4 years of Middle School and the 3 years of High School) unable to sustain a casual conversation in the language or even understand simple written or spoken excerpts.

I'm "proud" in the sense that regardless of whether I had to work to achieve that level or not, it is exceptionally high compared to most of my fellow French people

In our company, only around 10%, those who where judged to have the best abilities in English by a previous test, passed the TOEIC.

Of these nine people, the best scored 975, I was second with 965, the third scored 930 (a girl who was born in the USA, though she left it for France at a very young age), and after that it decrease to a point where the last has just over 800.


This to show you just how shitty the average level is.

Funny, sounds like the same thing for us and Spanish. My school system had gotten rid of French because "We're all going to need to speak Spanish soon anyways with all the immigrents coming."

That was from a school official. An African American school official.


Anyways, today has been "fun" so far.

What wasn't sore was hurting, and what wasn't those two was stiff. Also couldn't breath due to all the corn dust from yesterday. One of our two new bulls was out and had to chase him back in. He eventually jumped the fence back in, but lead me on a merry chase around the yard before that.

And something I know Camo would enjoy, spider in my hair. Noticed it and simply let it start climbing down before putting it on the ground.

I have a pretty big fear of the dark, though it's not exactly a full-blown phobia. Crowds make me pretty nervous. Also, heights. That's a big one for me. It's bad enough that if I've recently seen a long drop, such as looking down from the top floor of an atrium, I end up having dreams about it. I actually jump out of my sleep.

I have weird day to day things that bother me. If anybody's seen Gavin and the wet bread thing it's about equivalent to that.

But if Camo and the spiderbait have taught me anything it's not to share those.

On the other hand, I know I'm really disgusted by any eye-related wounds or surgeries, and I get extremely uncomfortable when people wave knives and other kind of blades at my face (like "ready to spontaneously initiate kung-fu moves").

For example, a few minutes ago a comrade waved a hatchet a little too close to my face for comfort, and I reflexively grabbed it by the handle with my left hand, my right hand ready to punch him in the face.

He was just showing it to me.

That's how tense other people wielding blades carelessly [1] make me.

Not really a phobia, but I get really really nauseated at any sort of wound - small or major - if it's on other people.
