@Last; Yeah, sadly you can only go on one date with each of them.
In other news, there no power for my entire island! One big blackout, so proud.

You got the northeastern America storm up there, then? We got a foot or so of snow and some inclemently chilly temperatures down here, but power's still fine so we're cozy. Stay safe 'n warm and suchlike.

It's already pretty well known. The reason why there's still plenty of people that believe in voodoo economics and thus the belief that minimum wage shouldn't be increased is that it's one of those troll physics things that sound reasonable using basic logic, but in reality doesn't make a lick of sense.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Workers of the world, unite!
To use a analogy it's like someone saying that if you have a 1 light year long pole and poke it then say that the energy will travel faster than light(If you aren't familiar with this one in reality the energy would travel like a shock wave down the pole obliterating it)
In the usa the democrats are trying to raise the minimum wage. This is a good idea because as the income gap between poor and rich in nations grows shit tends to hit the fan and violent actions start taking place, or by another name if the minimum wage isn't increased we'll become like greece and have riots where people throw molotovs at police officers and such. The best course of action is to raise minimum wage, increase taxes on the wealthy and decrease taxes on the poor so as to avoid long term societal breakdown, or to simplify it so people don't start breaking shit in riots.
I'm not sure of the situation in france, but here while protests about the growing income gap are peaceful right now, but they won't be forever. As more and more people become desperate it will increase the chances of violence.

It hasn't stopped strikes though. Having a strike during a holiday and peak sales is a massive way to get noticed quickly, cause if it's all of a sudden out of the blue they won't be able to get replacements in fast enough to make up for the loss of profits.swicked wrote:Hmmm.Harmony Ltd. wrote:Workers of the world, unite!
I thought they had to sign labor agreements forbidding them from forming a union.
I'm pretty sure that's my deal, at least.
Either way, though, yeah... the benefits of unions have always outweighed the problems.

Seriously though, I'm getting seriously tired of that shitty ass connection we have in the house. It's a fucking pain in the ass, especially when there's three people at once on the internet.

Except that they've proven marijuana does induce short term psychosis immediately after use, as well as damaging the brain to a point where it's almost identical to schizophrenics. Not to mention causing severe damage to the lungs after prolonged use and several other long term negative effects.Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:Ah, trolling the BBC comments section... Glorious. On the other hand with the advancement of medical technology illegal drugs are getting cheaper and cheaper to make thus making a already impossible task of hard on crime even more difficult and that the percentage of pot users in prison is extremely high. Also don't forget that more hard core drugs hold less of a prison sentence. Personally I support legalization of pot purely for financial reasons in that why criminalize pot when you can make a profit off it through high taxes, like we do with cigarettes. Just tax the ever loving shit out of pot and what was once originally a money pit is now a money gold mine.CamoBadger wrote:Except that they've proven marijuana does induce short term psychosis immediately after use, as well as damaging the brain to a point where it's almost identical to schizophrenics. You're also forgetting that being hard on crime or soft on crime doesn't have actual effect on crime rates. The reason why other countries have a lower percentage of their population in prison is actually due to that they have shorter prison terms for drug crimes and such thus leading to them getting out earlier. Some countries even go so far as rehab rather than prosecution in order to help keep drug usage down.
Another alternative is to change how the justice system handles drug crimes and remove the minimum punishments.
In other words you could give life in prison to drug users and extremely severe punishment for drug usage and people will still use drugs so why try to fight it when you can make a profit off it? Eventually a couple decades down the line illegal drugs are going to be so cheap that any level of actual enforcement will be impossible to the point it would be like trying to stop people from jaywalking levels of impossible.

That video reminded me of something similar. The Grimm Thinker here on Cloudsville did some voice acting for an abridged series of Black Butler, and Frost said that his work was far superior to the other actors. I've yet to find the actual video, though. I'll probably ask Grimm for a link later today.

Even though marijuana may be harmful illegal drugs are getting hella cheap the last few years. Personally what I'm worried about if pot becomes legal is that they do what happened to cigarettes and start cramming carcinogenic shit into the blunts. What I would like to see is if it legalized another law stating that blunts MUST be 100% natural so as to avoid the same medical issues as cigarettes.

Except they don't cell it as blunts. They just sell it as the leaves and you have to roll it yourself, like pouch tobacco.cb5 wrote:Pretty much.Admiral Stoic Rum wrote:CamoBadger wrote:I never claimed to disagree with legalizing it.

Plus, people already add that stuff to it all the time. People lace harder drugs into it, mix it with tobacco, add in paint thinner, whatever they think will make it better for them. I would worry less about growers adding in extras, and more about the users doing it.

It also inhibits Alzheimer's, apparently, so that's a long-term positive effect. I'm going to ask for documentation on that, Camo, because you're basically just spewing out a load of scare-mongering wording that sounds like BS - essentially what I was parodying with the water stuff (and the Alzheimer's statement - there is insufficient evidence for any claims of that nature). What I've seen says that if you're genetically disposed towards schizophrenia, cannabis can be an environmental trigger. But it's rather a long leap to say that it causes it, or that normal use damages the brain to the same point.CamoBadger wrote:Except that they've proven marijuana does induce short term psychosis immediately after use, as well as damaging the brain to a point where it's almost identical to schizophrenics. Yes, obviously, smoking is bad for you. Don't smoke. I barely even drink alcohol, here. What I was making fun of was the people who misread scientific studies and blow things out of proportion to drum up support for idiotic laws. If you have a problem with that... well, I don't actually give a fuck, but I'll stop doing so here.
Also, if people want paint thinner inside them, they are going to get paint thinner inside them. There's nothing magical about marijuana in this respect beyond what we've assigned it legally and socially.

Aims: To examine critically the evidence that cannabis causes psychosis using established criteria of causality.
Results: On an individual level, cannabis use confers an overall twofold increase in the relative risk for later schizophrenia. At the population level, elimination of cannabis use would reduce the incidence of schizophrenia by approximately 8%, assuming a causal relationship. Cannabis use appears to be neither a sufficient nor a necessary cause for psychosis. It is a component cause, part of a complex constellation of factors leading to psychosis.
Conclusions: Cases of psychotic disorder could be prevented by discouraging cannabis use among vulnerable youths. Research is needed to understand the mechanisms by which cannabis causes psychosis.
