If you wanted to expose anyone to MLP I would probably state with the episodes Party of One, Lesson Zero, and Luna Eclipsed. They are pretty strong episodes that show off that MLP isn't a show just for kids. In my opinion at least. 

EQG requires you to know a lot of information and be pretty familiar with MLP to not be lost while watching it. It wouldn't mean much to a non-brony and it wasn't all that great to begin with.

Throw in It's About Time and The Return of Harmony and you've got a pretty well-rounded bundle. It's About Time because it's awesome, and Return of Harmony because it's fun, crazy, and spends a lot of time with each of the characters.

Also, kinda a key thing to do is introduce him to the fandom (the part that doesn't suck). Introducing people to the music is always a great starting place, since that's usually what people are most willing to accept at first.

That's why I'm not going to give spoilers.  I'm just giving a warning to be prepared for a massive disappointment.  Better to be braced for a inevitable disappointment you know is coming than have your hopes shot from a disappointment you refused to see coming.

A good part of the episode was the flashback though.  I really liked that part.  They should have made it into it's own episode.

Let me put it another way.  Be prepared for this to happen within the fandom:

Arin represents people that like Twilight Sparkle, Jon represents the people laughing at the drama.

When you eventually see it promise me you're not going to ragequit.  It's much easier to just laugh at it and realize that there are going to be some good parts in the episodes.  Even though the core story is bad everything else I actually enjoyed.  Also I nearly lost my shit due to happiness when a side thing happened.  If you are going to watch the episode JUST cause you like Twilight then you're going to be disappointed.

In short:  It would have been a fucking great episode without twilight.

I both love the episode and hate it.  If the season 4 opener was a person I would want to have sex with it.

Don't worry, it takes a looot to make me ragequit something I've liked in the past. I'd give you a list but it mostly ends up being me gushing about bands that have made mediocre records and then redeemed themselves. Plus, honestly, I don't take the show all that seriously. I like it, the characters are enjoyable when written well, and it's a fun playground to imagine stuff in, but even Mare Do Well didn't ruin anything for me (and I will say that I did not like that episode). It's just fun, y'know?

EDIT: Also internet is bad again. I think it gets bad at 9, and then gets good again around midnight or so. :| This is dumb. But it is at least better than freshman year when it was just always bad. Still worse than it was a week ago, but silver linings, I guess.

I just watched the red wedding.
It's been a while since I laughed that hard. Surprised my spouse :D
I mean, my gosh... she died knowing her baby was already dead. The king toward the end... his mom... their daughter outside!

That was the first episode I actually paid attention to. Sure, I had caught a few episodes before, but I never really watched them. Then there was the wedding and the guy talking about the future with his pregnant wife and I couldn't help but go "Oh this is gonna end badly isn't it?" And then they carried off the married couple and the music changed as soon as the door slammed and I went "Well, they're fucked."

When you read the books, there's always a significant degree of "You ain't seen nothin' yet" for the show. But honestly, things don't get much more insane than that scene - once the point about anyone dying has been hammered home that hard, it doesn't need much more hammering. Honestly, I think it was a bit more out of nowhere in the books because there wasn't a sudden build-up of character for those Robb and what'sherface, his wife - they were minor characters, and they stayed minor characters, and then everyone was dead. =P

I knew not reading the books would bite me in the ass, and I could start them at any time. But I haven't, and probably won't for a long while.

Just like how I knew not watching the show from the beginning would do the same, but meh.
There's almost all of season 2 of The Walking Dead I haven't watch, and I can't say I care if I watch the episodes I missed.
