Another one I saw described him as a steel pony. Ponies with much thicker and duller coats which keep them warm in the frozen north.

The fact that they got it for free is probably a pretty big factor.

They can bitch all they want about "militarized police forces", but if it means cops aren't allowed to be fat anymore, I'm all for it.

I know of only two good Conversion Bureau stories, and only because they have a complete 180° take on the basic premise :

Not Alone (the author pulled it up from fimfic because of how much he hate The Conversion Bureau and didn't want to continue feeding the beast)
Conquer The Stars (a sidestory / sequel to the previous one, and on hiatus since the Not Alone got pulled from FimFic by its author)


Basically, a big fuckyou to misanthropes.

Not Alone is among the best stories I've ever read. It should be cited as a definitive example of an intelligent deconstruction.

Conquer The Stars, though, is, in my view, a revenge fantasy. It may be better written than other such stories, but in the end it's just fighting stupid with more stupid. As in, "I'LL SHOW THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ARGUMENT THAT I HATE THEM MORE THAN THEY HATE ME!!".

To be fair, there ARE some other worthwhile stories set in a CB-like universe. I remember reading some, a long time ago. But there's so few that any attempt at finding them would involve digging through mountains of crap, which I'm not really inclined to do again.
