I know of two not-solutions to the middle east problem. One of them solves most major basic human rights violations by banning government in the area beyond the city-state level. The other was proposed earnestly by an Iraqi friend, and involves turning the entire region into an irradiated wasteland. Basically, there's no good solution in the current political climate, so you have to either stop worrying and learn to love the sarin, or... do something about it.

Call me a dick, but the syria situation is sort of a good news bad news sort of deal.  Historically speaking for global super powers war is far more common than peace, and also nations who have large armed forces every few years "need" a war.  If it wasn't for Syria chances are the talks of war with Iran, North Korea, or should would have escalated to the point we actually do go to war with them.  The problem with Iran is that they have a mobile missile system and if we ever do go to war with them then we'll our allies in the local area are fucked, cause even if they don't have nuclear missiles they could still use chemical warfare and then we'll our soldiers in afghanist/iraq or even our allies are hard core fucked.  Going to war with North Korea would have within minutes all major South Korea cities leveled and well good luck trying to rebuild homes for 50 million people.

Right now all our "enemies" and our allies and the usa are all focused on syria right now.  Which has given the situation with actual military threats to our allies time to cool off.  Everyone is so focused on syria that we've all but forgotten about iran.  Which I'd hate to say it, but fortunately is giving the opportunity for both in congress and iran's and such's political system time for people to stop beating the war drum at each other and instead in syria.

Bad news:  We're going to be involved for a long time in a borderline anarchy warzone.
"Good news": Congress has stopped beating the war drum towards Iran and North Korea who do actually pose a threat to our allies.

Syria is the new afghanistan, but at least they're not a actual threat to the usa or our allies.

Yeah the ponies are only three foot tall.  The reason being is that during the hearth's warming eve someone did a bit of calculating and fillies and colts are about two feet tall and fully adult ponies are about 3 feet tall.  Hence the name, "my little pony".

Really?  Because the Candy Cane Scale is what gave me the 122cm figure.  Hm... Yeah, this and this say that the CCS puts ponies at about 4ft, which is about 122cm.

I have no doubt that we could win in the long run against north korea, the problem is if we attack north korea then Seoul is going to have to be renamed "vacant lot".  Blocking that many morter shells when you have less than half a hour to gear up is a pretty big problem.  Imagine pearl harbor, now imagine, instead of attacking the ships with planes, now imagine attacking civilian homes with mortar shells.  Kind of a problem.
