sigh, I... am so disappointed, personal responsibility does not exist unless you do wrong, sure you're all keen on telling others what good for 'em and going out of your way to ensure morality for the whole of the citizenry, but by golly you break the law its your fault, well why didn't the government make it so i couldn't break the law in the first place? the only way to do that is to do away with law in the first place. its a stupid circular logic...

Call me cynical, but I'd say this is just a pretext for the Tories to try to introduce the idea in the common psyche of filtering the internet for the common good. With the long term goal of making acceptable to the public to further and further extend this form of censorship to other subjects.Overlong Analysis Cobalt wrote:Pfffffffffft hahaha. The impression I got from the 6 days I spent in London a few years ago was how policed the British society is, in a twisted way. What left the deepest impression on me was that there was pretty much everywhere you looked signs telling you not what you were forbidden to do, but what you were expected to do. It was... well, it left me the impression that the good Briton is expected to mindlessly do as he's told.
I dunno, it might just be a cultural difference, but I found that disturbing. And gave me a better understanding of the creative process that went behind Pink Floyd's "The Wall" and the roots of the Punk movement.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
Just to explain :
I heard strangers who come to France sometimes complain about how there's interdiction signs everywhere, on various subjects. it's simply because the idea in our culture is that as long as it's not expressly forbidden, it's at least tolerated. On the other hand, during these six days with my sister in London, we remarked that there was almost no interdiction signs anywhere, but that on the other hand there was in their place signs that said "do this" or "do that". That basically, they replaced interdictions with obligations.

Reminds me of the "video nasties" when they where banning when they was banning movies. Some where justified if you're against horror movies but they'd ban anything with certain buzz words like Blood and Evil.

I really can't speak for the culture in Britain, but..... Over here, one can't really expect criminals to follow the law. Criminals pack heat into gun-free zones. Criminals grow or synthesize banned substances in their basement. Going back a ways, criminals distill alcohol when it's illegal. All that's accomplished by banning or restricting things that aren't inherently harmful is that you indirectly help whatever enterprising shithead that wants to make some money under the table

- 1: (Gender roles) I have no idea of Somber's intentions either... just getting a bit annoyed at what's presented by them. And yes, my ramble was mostly based off stereotypes. Along with narrow roles given to characters of both genders.
2: (Mindset) I think I got what you meant there xP But yes, there is this "females knowns better" along with "females are better than that" thing in the fic, which as said: makes no sense. If you try to live by some retarded morality based of forgiveness and kindness, in a world where basically not a single male does, how the heck has that mindset even managed to persist? I mean really, the expression "hell has no wrath like a woman scorn" is pretty accurate. That about every single wasteland mare, including raiders are "too good to sink to their level" doesn't make any sense to me at all.
3: (GPE) I meant that the enclave is treated incredibly poorly story wise. Like said, the males aren't doing any kind of "sacrifice", they just head off and fuck elsewhere during this week, because yes, it truly is a sacrifice to not get to be selfish and only get themselves off with aroused mares while neglecting their needs Those poor males that have to fly off and have sex with other mares. And it doesn't even seem to be hinted at, AT ALL that the mares would have any type of sexual urges, as apparently everything is fine once the males aren't there, as then there's no dicks around, making sex pointless, thus, no mare got any urges. As for Glory, it was that she just got a huge hard-on for some random retard, that failed horribly in bed, being a selfish ass, just like Styg. Then Glory concluded that she might totally do it again... makes as much sense as P-21 saying he's considering sex with BJ again. The whole "respect" part was that Somber seems to have no respect for his own characters, he alters and flips their personality at will if it fits him. Along with keep throwing in these random fucking males that gets to score and get away with being selfish assholes, AND gets praised for it.
4: (Estrus) ... Glory pretty much knew that already. It's the fact she just threw hersef at some "the first random fucktard" she encountered, had terrible sex and gave no regard or cared for her own pleasure. Said it was shit, then stated that "Yeah, totally might do it again!" I mean honestly... I mean honestly, if we'd take this in a like, similar example with like... P-21 or something: "How was the sex with that mare you met an hour ago? - Horrible, she only thought of herself. Got herself off six times, one of which she even squirted inside my ass... not letting me cum or even tried to pleasure me. I was just left cold turkey... - Oh man, she sounds amazing in the sack! - Yeah, I can definitely see myself fucking another mare soon."
5: (Animals) This is just what I've read though, so I might be incorrect. But several gay animal couples, such as penguins resort to stealing eggs of straight couples and the like. Keep in mind it's a brain wiring. If Glory had been wasted to the point she have it difficult to even get it up, then I could have seen it more plausible that she'd be inebriated enough to consider sleeping with a male. MAYBE. Assuming Somber doesn't suddenly claim she's a closet straight or bi.
6: (Clarification Well, glad it made sense at least.
(Link) Erf, I asked before, and someone told me to just post/link it... can remove it if needed though.
("Access") I've managed to convince some poor souls to draw for me to animate xP
@Stone: You read the entire thing? And welp, not like there's overly much point to it in PH either so... xP But tbh, would have wished I could have incorporated more proper and actual story in that. It lacks a point as said. And this point isn't beside the mountain.

- 2: Aren't you kinda forgetting Chrysalis? The villians have been rather evenly split up gender wise tbh. Point is, it's been a matriarchy before the downfall, that it suddenly would swap to a pure patriarchy with females of a "we know better" and forgiving nature. Makes no sense. And yes, male animals tend to get a bit bigger. But that would faaaaaar from give them an "auto-qualification" to just be better. Keep in mind these are ponies, not humans. They do not have our stereotypes or social norms. ESPECIALLY not in the wasteland. If going with the "big, dumb brute" stereotype male, he'd easily be killed off by a stereotype "femme fatale" or whatever the buck those are called. Just like with humans, a big brawny male proves no interest to a female unless it's fully beneficial to the environment. If a female leader, or overall just a physically weaker, but smarter male would prove more beneficial, that is what females would go after. Heck, we even prefer to go for a more suited female if able. We're biologically built to search for the best PARTNER, not the strongest. An aggressive, strong male is pointless on a ex: island with no animals. Then a smart, possible submissive partner is much more beneficial. So no, don't see it as hard for a mare to claim power at all. After all, a male would technically have a bigger chance of generic flaws as they only have one x chromosome. If in a tribe, she'd just have traded the "extra strength" for something else. Sure, Gog might be stronger, but if he can't lead for shit, the tribe would much more likely see it beneficial to have a slightly physically weaker, but more wise leader. Like said, one can technically compare Celestia with Discord. He's "stronger", but none likes his rule at all. Assuming said "stallion" isn't a minor deity, the tribe could conclude "he is bad for us", and do mutiny, replacing him with the far superior "female".
And eh, most insulting terms work, I just say whichever is currently my "in use" xP And maybe. It's also possible they just "appeal/arouse" the author. Saying that as I know some that did it solely for that reason. Kkat is speculated to have done this a lot with all the female rape victims, and the constant bashing of Pip. They (according to sources) got off on female's being abused. And who's Spendid again? The random retard that plot convenience'd/deus-ex-machina'd glory in bed? Styg was really just pulled out of the ass, and a bad character. That turned out to be amazing, because fuck you, that's why. Along with BJ acting heavily OOC with him, along with starting a failed running joke and suddenly getting a never before shown, apparently common trait and personality that makes no sense. Solely to glorify/wank Styg. And eh, I really dunno. I know of people that actually do it on purpose... I don't have enough faith left in people tbh to keep assuming the best. I've been disappointed a majority of times. I tend to look at something from more than one perspective, but sometimes I'm just too sick of it to really bother.
As for the Enclave, their method doesn't even sound to have the slightest use at all. Not to mention, it's described as some "great sacrifice!" like... the fuck? An ACTUAL sacrifice would be to have them all sterilized, as you're only allowed to have one foal anyhow, problem solved. Simple and effective. Or: Just castrate the males. There, now you got rid of the only reason they are unable to control themselves. Then again, they might be too retarded to think of that... or just blame the mares for not having penises as well. They pretty much took one of the most inefficient or/and retarded solutions possible... I could see a few worse, such as having anal sex practice mandatory by mares, so the males have somewhere to fuck during estrus to "ease their pain"... because why the fuck not be more retarded? Gummy, like said; Just teach the stallions self control or some shit, and/or have mandatory "squirt bucket" training for them. Teaching them how to pleasure mares without thinking for themselves or using their penis. Because bo-ho, one week without sex, that'd be so harsh on the poor things. Especially considering that they all seem to be selfish shitbags and only care about their own pleasure the rest of the year as said.
On a side note, technically the stallions doesn't even have a logical reason to be raping, as if going animal wise, the only reason they even get aroused is when mares are in heat, and they themselves are horny. So... the current version that only stallions got a sex drive and can't control themselves, while mares got no sex drive, apart from wanting to pleasure males, really makes no sense.

- We Are Family by Sister Sledge
(CHORUS:)
We are family
I got all my sisters with me
We are family
Get up ev'rybody and sing
Ev'ryone can see we're together
As we walk on by
(FLY!) and we fly just like birds of a feather
I won't tell no lie
(ALL!) all of the people around us they say
Can they be that close
Just let me state for the record
We're giving love in a family dose
(CHORUS x2)
Living life is fun and we've just begun
To get our share of the world's delights
(HIGH!) high hopes we have for the future
And our goal's in sight
(WE!) no we don't get depressed
Here's what we call our golden rule
Have faith in you and the things you do
You won't go wrong
This is our family Jewel
(REPEAT CHORUS TO FADE)

Given the discussions regarding gender roles that have sporadically populated the thread the last few days, as well as the video's own vague chuckle-inducing properties, this seemed to be of tangiental relevance

My sister is currently doing a post-doctorate at Gainesville, in Florida.
They have a stadium there of more than 80,000 seats for their university football team (The Gators). It's bigger than the Stade de France, and it's full every match during the season.
I think this may give a partial answer to your question.

There's certainly the perception in popular culture that everyone likes sports.
I can enjoy it occasionally, but I don't watch sports that often, not after being in a high school marching band (Tuba/Sousaphone, before you think to ask) playing for a football team that lost absolutely every single game for every year I was there. (That's American Football, or Handegg if you're French.)

Now, being from the South and southern and all that, I can say that a majority of the population is devoted to some kind of sport. NASCAR, baseball, football, Georgia Highlander games (gotta love the Scottish heritage we have) etc. etc.
Me, I couldn't give two shits about sports. When high schools face budget cuts they'll take chainsaws and sledgehammers to art, music, even agricultural and computer classes, but don't you fucking dare talk about taking a single cent away from the physical education department.
I'm proud to say I only went to one single game of anything sport related when I was in high school, and that was because I went crazy and decided to run for homecoming king and it was mandatory I'd show up for the homecoming game to find out if I won or not.
I didn't, losing out to my former football player cousin.

- The only thing I can nitpick with in that is the why of the sending the males away. It might sound stupid... But it's the sort of thing a military would do if faced with that problem. It's not the best solution, but it is a solution, probably proposed by someone of influence, and therefore it must be the best! It would work in the tiniest degree, so they'd keep doing it. They (meaning some in the leadership) won't go by reality, they'll go by what they think is happening and be completely out-of-touch. That happens a lot in real life, actually. Unless Glory was merely lying about it. And I'm glad you recognized that I was just trying to throw some ideas out there; I'm much more comfortable exploring ideas than arguing about them.
I have my favorite teams if they're playing. I might watch some games, especially the playoffs, but I don't usually make it a routine. The only sport I do care about is air racing, and that's rarely on.

- I have to say the moment I heard it the enclave plan sounded like a very poor one unless what I think Kim is suggesting is true. What I think Kim is suggesting is that enclave males are in complete control when estrus rolls around while the females become drooling single minded creatures.Â
I mean in all the years that the enclave existed not a single male was tempted to turn around? Even though if we're using Glory as the standard despite sexual orientation they're willing to submit to the first male that shows interest in them?
If that is the case that no male has ever turned around it certainly does appear to be sexist doesn't it? The males retain enough sentience to leave and stay away while the females just seem to devolve.Â
I could be wrong about this but the way I'm looking at it at the moment I would have to agree with Kim on this one. I apologize if my interpratation Is just flat out off.
Also continuing on that, if any of the males did turn around I can't see this policy staying in place.

Ack. Well, I really don't know how to explain that, it's more of a subtle feeling than something that's in your face - easy to miss, but once you start paying attention you begin to see the difference. But yeah, here it's also pretty basic stuff, but, without going overboard, we tend to go a bit "captain obvious" at time, in a variety of situations.swicked wrote:...mind elaborating on these signs?Harmony Ltd. wrote:Just to explain :
I heard strangers who come to France sometimes complain about how there's interdiction signs everywhere, on various subjects. it's simply because the idea in our culture is that as long as it's not expressly forbidden, it's at least tolerated. On the other hand, during these six days with my sister in London, we remarked that there was almost no interdiction signs anywhere, but that on the other hand there was in their place signs that said "do this" or "do that". That basically, they replaced interdictions with obligations.
In the USA we have pretty basic ones... No smoking, no pets, no diving in foot-deep pools, etc.
My brother lived with a family in France (I dunno where in) for a while and doesn't remember an abundance of signs.
Additionally, what is this about obligation signs in Britain? I know they're pretty crazy about censorship and free speech, but I know next to nothing specific about it.
For London, well, we saw that mostly from what we experienced, it's to say the public transportation system (metro and bus). It basically boiled down to being instructed throughout our trips to do certain things. It wasn't orders, but the "spirit" it gave (to my sister and me at least) was "do as you're told and everything will go smoothly, 'kay ?".
To explain the cultural shock... French people have a reputation of being somewhat undisciplined. Put another way, the standard reaction to people telling us to do something isn't us doing it but telling the other guy to go to hell.
