Also, this book has a shitload of sex in it, my god.

Pretty much every chapter has included the main character sleeping with someone or talking about who they slept with recently, with the one exception of the chapter with the orgy complete with a cheering section.

And this was supposed to be the army in the present day (book was written in 1970's).
So, my question is:
At what point did the army decide that instead of encouraging sex with other soldiers as a morale device, they were going to drop from the sky with a hammer and say "YOU WILL NOT TOUCH EACH OTHER!!!"

Now, I'm not saying it doesn't happen, it does. All the fuckin' time (you can find a punch bowl of condoms in just about any clinic/hospital on a post or FOB overseas unless there's no females on that post/FOB. Just don't get caught, or you'll find yourself with a sudden drop in pay and stuck on shit-burning detail for months). I'm just saying that life overseas is already stressful enough, so what's the point of making perfectly consensual sex into something negative? ESPECIALLY when you know for a fact that it has, does, and will continue to happen?

1) Yes, I actually know a few female soldiers who look damn fine, even by non-army standards. Generally they were air force (I don't understand why some of the most attractive girls go there, but oh well), but I've met more than a few female medics I would have happily jumped in the sack with. I point out medics specifically because I've spent the most time around them.
2) After 6 months on a base where I didn't even see a female, I went to another base to pick up supplies and realized that almost every soldier girl I saw was hot as hell.

So I guess the answer is yes.
HOWEVER, I generally play by the rule "don't shit where you sleep". AKA: Sleeping with co-workers is a bad idea and should be avoided because that can go bad very very fast.
In summary: Yes there are some soldiers I would screw, but it has to be a 1 time thing and they can't be someone I work with (which basically disqualifies all medics and I don't talk to anyone else because fuck everyone who isn't a medic )

Hm, Ridley Scott is making The Forever War into a movie.

Here's to hoping it's done justice, because it really is an amazing read (I'm totally not already over half way through it after just one day of having it).
Kinda worried about how they plan on handling the face-slap of physics terms and theory that is presented throughout it through dialogue since it's very important to the story, and I don't doubt they're going to dumb it way down for folks who don't know at least basic physics (book does a good job of describing it in a way it can be understood, but even then if you don't know anything about the physics theory or laws then you can get lost very very easily. I know I had to re-read a few segments just to get somewhat of an understanding of what was talked about).
Also, I really hope they don't turn it into some anti-military bullshit. It could be interpreted that way if you want it to, but really it's anti-vietnam specifically (not anti-soldier or anti-military, just against the war itself. It did a fantastic job showing how hard it can be for soldiers to come home from war and find everything so different, even if it was to the extreme in the book).
Also, I wonder how they'll handle the sheer amount of gore in the book or if they'll just ignore it (exploding heads, imploded bodies, being torn limb from limb, people turned to paste by g-forces, all that fun stuff). Then again, it is Ridley Scott, so it'll probably happen off screen and then show the body afterwards. Can't go horrifying people with the sight of that stuff.

Or they'll just Starship Troopers it and I'll have to kill a bitch.
