It's got a lot to do with the roots of both areas. Europe has always had a culture of the state being quite large and influential, while America was, let's face it, founded with landowners and businessmen in mind

Also, Europe has always been densely populated. So that has had an influence on our culture as well.
By contrast, the continental US is all open spaces and shit.
Also, if those settlers didn't have the mostly untapped resources of a whole freaking continent to brutally exploit the story would have been quite different.

@Swicked
Pacifist run for me. Got low chaos and lots of Daww's from Emily. In the main game I ruined my perfect stealth run just to beat the mess out of Daub, then let him live. It felt nice. Still don't know how to get no-kill run though, since saving the mob boss dude apparently counts as a kill for Granny. Even though I knocked her out and put her on the mattress away from rats.

If we needed further proofs that PETA are assholes :
PETA founder says : "PETA doesn't believe animals have a 'Right to Life'" ; Kills thousands of healthy Kittens & Puppies every year.

And thus they give every other animal protection association a very, very bad name.
I mean, even if comes off as well intentioned, their "Fur is Murder" campaigns are balls to the wall retarded and unproductive. All they manage to do is to give themselves a visibility and convince people to give them more money to do more campaigns like that, which will actually convince no one but those who are already convinced.
It's all just a fucking disgusting scam.

See, that's why, even if I try to reduce my meat consumption to a minimum, I have difficulty envisioning a 100% vegetarian world :I think it has to do with the fact that they hate that there are any domestic animals at all. To stop the exploitation of cows for meat and milk their solution would likely be to just kill them all right now, for example.
If only because if we stopped eating these animal, people wouldn't have any economic incentive to raise them anymore, and I'm ready to bet that in a century or two their species would be endangered or extinct, as they aren't adapted to the wild.
That's why I prefer to advocate for a more humane treatment and a general reduction in the amount of meat and animal products consumed than to outright stop our consumption.

As far as I know, it's kinda far off (it IS a comedy piece with inaccuracies and artistic license) from the book of the same name, which is a semi-autobiography.

@ Frost : I don't know. Living on the other side of the pond I never thought to investigate them. I'm just grinding my axe on PETA because with their international visibility they give a bad name to animal advocacy groups worldwide.
@ Valikdu : I don't know how far off it is, but indirectly this gave me some ideas for the FoE thing I'm working on.

I've heard PETA comparing the "plight" of killer whales at Seaworld to the slavery of African-Americans back in the civil war era

Well, to be fair to that retarded statement, it is still pretty inhumane to keep those whales in such little enclosures.
Are they kept there for a preservation effort, or just for commercial (show) purposes ?

Commercial purposes
Still, I have a hard time putting the shitty situation (kept in a small enclosure and feed well) of an animal with the horrible situation (treated like the scum of the earth and worked like dogs) of actual human beings

Well, yes, it is still a retarded comparison to make.
I think that most of those hardcore "animal rights" activists are actually misanthropist.
I mean, for example, Brigitte Bardot, well-known French actress from the 60's and 70's, known for her rabid advocacy of animal rights, is also a well-known support of the French xenophobic far-right.

Don't forget that humanity has evolved to be omnivorous. Our bodies can't handle life without meat anymore, if we do then our body has difficulty digesting our food and we can't get all of the nutrients we need without supplements.Harmony Ltd. wrote:See, that's why, even if I try to reduce my meat consumption to a minimum, I have difficulty envisioning a 100% vegetarian world :I think it has to do with the fact that they hate that there are any domestic animals at all. ...although, to be honest, on my high-chaos I'm having a difficult time completing the first level without being detected. I'm getting though it all with the turn-to-ash trait so that I can see that they didn't detect me in how they die, but it's telling me I was detected in the end, anyway...
Yeah it's a bit hard. I'm going through my first Ghost playthough of the DLC on the Very Hard difficulty, sometimes it's just down to trial and error. Anytime you think you are detected just reload a save. The Second level is even worse. Remember to use distractions to lure enemies away and such.

All I know is that when I tried to switch to a vegetarian diet, three to four weeks in I was feeling weak. But it could just be that I was going about it wrong.CamoBadger wrote:Don't forget that humanity has evolved to be omnivorous. Soy is an excellent source of protein I hear. Problem is it's also the crop which is the most widely cultivated as a Genetically Modified Organism. So if you don't live in a country were GMO are forbidden for human consumption, you have to worry about that.

A number of studies tend to show that long-term consumption of genetically modified crops has a significant impact on the risk of developing tumors and other cancer-like afflictions.

Though the validity of these studies is put into question.
But I prefer to prevent rather than to cure.
Organic Farming has proved numerous times that it could be reliably as productive as classical intensive agriculture, and that a number of organic, biological techniques not relying on industrial chemicals or genetically altered organisms were enough or even better than classicals techniques to prevent infestation by vermins.
They also protect bio-diversity.

Re: [Official!] Project Horizons Comment Crew Chat thread.
My English class did a debate on whether or not people need meat last year. From what I got from our source materials, meat provides full proteins and requires less energy to get the important nutrients out of. Plants provide incomplete proteins and require more energy and consumption to produce complete ones that our bodies use.
But it's possible, so just having plants for your protein is feasible.
There's also iron deficiency and other nutrients that we need which are mostly derived from meats. Again, possible to get around but it's probably a pain.
That's just going off memory.
