I suppose I subscribe to a variation or the traditional literary agent theory or whatever it's called; In my mind Pinke Eyes is a legend, a tall tale told to foals across the Wasteland. It isn't an authoritative source on the Nightmare or historical events, and the places and groups it mentions may or may not exist, but it's a good story as long as you don't think too hard. It was probably inspired by real things, and might have even been true at first, but the story's warped and grown over the years and whoever we hear it from is an unreliable narrator.
Meanwhile the original Fo:E is a precise, careful historical account of Littlepip's journeys and the events which changed the Wasteland. Everything inside is accurate, to the best knowledge of 'Pip as the narrator and whoever copied it down into the book.
Project Horizons is something that's actually happening to Blackjack as it's told. And that's terrible.

You know the Cold War fear of the five/thirty minute warning? The first sign of an Equestrian megaspell attack would be the megaspells arriving and activating. And the state in control of these weapons has propaganda that severely demonizes the Zebras and is run by a being who is considered by your culture to be an incarnation of malicious evil. Imagine living under that shadow.

Goodness knows we all have shit days. I hit a really low point a couple weeks ago. Condensing it a bit, I took too much of a dose of reality and an uncertain future, sat around, tried not to think about it but did, cried a little, tried watching the Smile song, cried more afterwards...
...Then started thinking about all of us here and how we're all a group of the biggest bunch of misfits with a whole rainbow myriad of issues, emotional, mental, situational or otherwise, drawn together by a dark fanfic about ponies in an apocalyptic wasteland, written by someone who themselves has some emotional baggage (no offense).
I couldn't tell if it was because of the absurdity or the truth, because then I laughed. I laughed till I cried. I think it's the first time I've experienced doing both at the same time. Then I just simply couldn't tell whether I was really laughing or crying in the end. But in the end, I did feel better afterwards.
Because we're all here for each other. Let us not forget that.
